Jeremy froze up at Michael's closeness. He didn't move until Michael had moved back, resting his hand on Jeremy's shoulder.
"Look at us," Michael sighed, directing Jeremy's attention to both of their reflections in the mirror. "We're about to freaking graduate, dammit. We're eighteen and going to college soon, yet here we are, worrying about being stuck in each other's bodies instead." He laughed. "Why does this shit happen to us, Jere?"
"It's my fault as usual," Jeremy quietly admitted what had been lurking in the back of his mind for the past few days. "I'm the one who made us go in that soda shop."
Michael gave him a Look. "Dude, you know I would've made us go in anyway. It's nobody's fault. We had no clue what was gonna happen." He smiled a bit thinly. "And it doesn't matter, anyway. The Mountain Dew Red gets here today, and this whole mess is gonna be fixed soon."
Suddenly there came a pounding on the door. "Hey, dudes!" Rich speaking in Jake's voice came through the door. "You done making out in there? I gotta take a piss."
Jeremy sputtered. "R-Rich! We are n-not—"
Michael laughed, going over to open the door. "Like you're one to talk," he called out to Rich as he walked out of the bathroom, and Jeremy quickly followed, face red as he pointedly avoided looking at Rich-in-Jake's-body.
He was too ashamed to think about how, for a moment, he had imagined and almost wished that he could've been doing that with Michael in the bathroom. ...Not in each other's bodies, of course. That was way too fucking weird. But still...making out with Michael...that would be a dream come true, wouldn't it? Just a kiss even, honestly.
Jeremy hurried over to put on his socks and shoes, suddenly very anxious to get his hands on some Mountain Dew Red (and his own body) again. All of these thoughts about Michael with no outlet for them were so not good for him.
Well, the dirtier part of his mind suggested. There technically was an outlet if he ever wanted....
No. No. Nope. No. God no. He was so not going there. Not now. Not in Michael's body.
...Michael's body....
Shut up, a suddenly red-faced Jeremy screeched inwardly at himself.
"Here."
Chloe abruptly set a large bottle of Mountain Dew Red on the table that Jeremy, Michael, and the entire group were sitting around, eating their breakfast.
Everyone paused and looked up at the bottle.
"Thank god," Jeremy choked out, relieved. He hastily downed the rest of his apple juice and reached out for the Mountain Dew. He quickly opened it and poured some in his now-empty glass and into Michael's glass.
Michael grinned at him, raising his glass. "It'll be great to be back in my own body."
"Y-yeah," Jeremy sighed, relieved at the thought for more than one reason, raising his own glass. "On three?"
Michael nodded. "On three."
"One." Jeremy's throat felt dry.
"Two." Michael looked just as nervous as he did. After all, what if this didn't work?
But no. It had to. It just had to.
Jeremy shakily sucked in a deep, nervous breath.
"Three."
Jeremy and Michael both took a sip of Mountain Dew Red.
Jeremy hastily gulped his down, then tightly clenched his eyes shut, waiting, praying for something, anything, to happen this time. The red Mountain Dew just had to work. If it didn't, he didn't know what else they could do.
