your first ghost encounter

Start from the beginning

You peeled your head out of the storage unit to see a man in overalls in the streets. You guessed it was a man from the way it looked, but the boxes floating around him while his eerily glowing self was hovering above ground told you otherwise.

He spotted you and grinned wickedly. Your breath hitched while you felt the goosebumps ride your skin. You were too frightened to even shiver at chill crawling on your spine. You were sure that you were awfully pale if you looked in the mirror.

"Beware!" his echoing voice would ring.

You cried out in response which made him laugh wickedly from the reaction as his hand glowed. He motioned his hand towards you and the surrounding boxes followed his direction. You covered yourself by crossing your forearms over your head and preparing for impact by the speeding boxes.

"I hope there isn't any glass plates in there," a voice called out.

The impact never came and the sudden voice made you open your eyes and looked up. Something black and white came flying by knocking the boxes from their paths. Something green blasted some others away.

A boy who looked to be your age floated down in between you and the man with overalls with his back towards you. All you can tell from him is his brilliant, white hair, but even then, you can tell he was similar to the man in overalls. The man who terrorized you didn't seem to happy with the new comer as he growled and the echo made you tremble a bit.

"I am the box ghost," he said, "and thanks to this moving truck full of them, I'm able to bring you to your doom."

The boy glanced back at where you were and you were able to see his neon green eyes. You were memorized by them for a bit only to realized he was looking behind you at a couple of boxes that had no affect from the 'box ghost' powers. You wondered why to yourself and finding the sudden urge to move and open them while the boy kept the box ghost busy.

From the sounds of it, the boy was struggling a bit, grunting out his frustrations about too many boxes and being overwhelmed. He had some witty banter as he tried to insult the ghost in overalls only to be knocked on the side of the truck from what you heard on the inside. You ignored the need to flinch and hiss at the pain he just went through and continued what you were doing.

Instantly, you face lit up when you saw the antiques and scrolls of prayers your grandfather packed. He retired from being a pastor at the church he used to go to, but he always kept somethings in case he ever needed them. You could say he wasn't wrong since the boxes that they were in laid completely still.

You dug through the box to try to find a prayer on possessed items. When you finally found it, you rushed back to the opening and saw the fight still going on. You focused on the boxes that were floating and said the prayer. Soon, the boxes fell with a hollow sound coming from them when landing on the ground. The box ghost shouted in worry when his powers didn't work anymore. The white hair boy looked at you and smiled gratefully before pulling out a—thermos?—and sucking the box ghost in it. He caped it shut and landed on the ground next to your boxes. There were at least ten of them and began picking them up.

You watched as he simply smiled at you. You cautiously stepped out onto the ground as he began stacking them.

"What...was that?" you finally managed to ask, still not too sure about the boy himself.

He was still smiling kindly as not to show any hostility towards you. "You must be new," he added after you rose your eyebrow and staring at him baffled, "that was the box ghost as he said so himself, but key word ghost."

Oh my God, you thought.

"They're real," you questioned. Your jaw dropped but you covered it with your hand. He chuckled at your reaction as he finished stacking the boxes neatly. Your attention went up to him as you realized, "Are you a...?"

"Ghost," he finished, "yeah, but I'm not like him. I actually fight ghosts."

"Like a ghost hunter?"

"Nah," he waved it off, "that title has already been taken." You furrowed your brows in confusion. You opened your mouth to respond but he continued, "Good thing there was just clothes in there. I would hate to see how mad your folks would be after seeing their fine China into pieces."

"Yeah," you sighed after what felt forever since you can breathe, "thanks for the save. I honestly wouldn't know what to do since I've never seen ghosts before."

He shrugged sheepishly while keeping the charming smile. "You're welcome, besides, its my job. And if it weren't for your quick thinking, I would have to destroy your boxes."

They were a bit tethered, but you knew what he meant and you silently thanked him for not having to pick up your underwear in front of the whole neighborhood.

He began to float when he saw the mess was picked up. He saw you step back a bit, still not used to having ghosts around. His gaze lingered on you as he smiled. "I'm sure I'll see you around," he waved goodbye.

You waved back and finally managed to smile a bit, "If attacks like that are frequent, I'm sure I'll see you around too."

He let out a quick laugh before flying away and disappearing towards the sunset.
