RIHAN POV
As I sat next to Sidharth during lunch, I couldn't help but notice how lost he seemed in his phone. His tired eyes and messy hair made it clear that he hadn't gotten much sleep. With a sigh, I decided to break the silence.
"Hey," I called out, trying to get his attention. But as usual, Sidharth ignored me, a smile lingering on his face as he continued texting. I waited impatiently, counting the seconds in my head. Fifteen seconds passed, and still, no reply.
"Oyiii!" I called out loudly, frustration building up inside me. I patted the table in irritation, trying to get him to notice the delicious food in front of us.
Finally, Sidharth looked up, a nonchalant "Hh" escaping his lips. I leaned in, widening my eyes, silently urging him to acknowledge the meal that had been waiting for us. With a sense of urgency, Sidharth put his phone down and exclaimed, "Oh, food!" as he eagerly pulled the plate closer.
"It's been 8 minutes and 24 seconds, the food has been waiting on the table," I remarked, trying my best to hide my irritation, taking another bite myself.
Curiosity got the better of me, and I couldn't help but ask, "Haven't you slept the whole night, Sidharth?"
"Woh," he exclaimed, his voice filled with hesitation as he avoided making eye contact with me. "It's Sunday, I thought I could just sleep all day."
"Really?" I questioned, my curiosity piqued.
His lips tightened into a thin line. "Yeah, I mean, it's Sunday. I can sleep the whole day today," he replied, his words laced with guilt. I knew he would spend the entire day texting her, even though it irritated me to no end.
"It's already noon, Sidharth," I exclaimed, frustration evident in my voice. "Who spends the entire night texting someone? Just let her sleep and take some rest yourself!" I tried my best to hide my irritation, but he let out a sigh and looked away, giving me a strange look as if I was the one being unreasonable.
"What's wrong, Rihan?" he asked, his tone filled with concern and irritation. "You've been in a relationship too."
And just like that, my spark faded. My heart sank, skipping a beat, as I forced myself to maintain a composed expression, avoiding his gaze. I felt numb, the frustration turning into sadness. Yes, I had been in a relationship, a beautiful one. We had been together for 2 years, 7 months, and 3 days. I remembered every moment. I had moved on, with the help of this monkeys, but the memories still lingered. And then Aaha came into my life, healing my deepest wounds without even knowing I was hurting. Her presence was like a soothing balm, just what I needed. That's why I always cheered her on, grateful for her constant support. She had always been there for me, even in high school, making sure I never felt alone.
"Sorry," he mumbled, breaking the heavy silence that hung between us. My mind was a whirlwind of emotions, but his words pierced through the numbness. "You're annoying," i said, my voice devoid of any frustration. It was as if i was just stating a fact, without any real anger behind it.
I stood up abruptly, not wanting to let him see the pain in my eyes. "I'm gonna grab some curd from the fridge. You want anything?" I asked, my voice trembling slightly. I glanced towards the kitchen, avoiding his gaze.
"Roti," he replied, his voice barely audible. I pushed my chair back and made my way into the kitchen, trying to collect my thoughts.
"Can we go out for a movie today?" he asked, his words barely above a whisper. An apology, perhaps? I mustered a small smile, my heart softening. "A movie, huh?" I responded, opening the fridge and reaching for the curd container. I closed the fridge with a satisfying dhumka , don't tell me now that I'm the only one who does that
