I know he won't like it. David already doesn't like Zach, that's why I won't tell him he's my plus one. Don't get me wrong, I still don't like the way Zach acts towards me, but this is too good of an opportunity to just throw away. David deserves it. It's not like we'll ruin the party. We'll at best make some people uncomfortable. Nothing too dramatic. It's only 15 November. he has exactly 29 days to prepare himself. Good luck David.
I wonder how many people really know the name, Zach Bryne. How many people know his face. I didn't know drug dealers could be that known, but Zach isn't a drug dealer anymore. At least I hope he isn't one anymore. I have actually no clue what his job is, but frankly, I don't care. As long as I don't get in trouble with him.
So today I have a day off again. Time to investigate studies. I called Clara and she's going to pick me up and drive us to the library. There are computers there that we can use.
We're sitting there for hours looking up schools, how I would even finance that. But that was not the biggest problem, the biggest problem was if I would even get into a school like that. Legal studies are how Clara called it.
"I got it! South Suburban College, it's a college here in Chicago and has multiple legal studies programs!" She shouts excitedly and pulls me close next to her to show me her computer screen. "Criminal justice system program, that is totally what we were looking for. You have to apply!" She shakes my arm almost overexcited.
"Okay Clara calm down." I laugh and take another look at the site. This is exactly what I've been looking for, somehow that makes it scary. What if it's not what I wanted or it is but I'm not good enough.
Clara can clearly see my worried look and squeezes my hand. "Hey, just apply. Tell them your story. You look at your past like it's so negative but it might just help you get your future." She smiles at me and I give her a weak smile back. "What's the worst that could happen?" She asks me and I shrug. "Everything. I don't know." I whisper.
"Okay well." She begins and grabs my phone, getting my ID from my phone case. "If you won't apply, I'm going to do it for you. I'm sure you can start the new semester, this winter." She says and types in my information. "Which program do you prefer?" She asks and shows me the list. "Corrections officer/youth supervisor," I mumble and she nods checking the box. "Why?"
"Because that way I could work with children and people who are going through the same stuff I went through," I say and she nods again, typing away. After what felt like a million other questions she's finally done and I'm now officially applying to South Suburban College. Dear God, please have mercy.
"You will probably hear back from them around December, today was exactly the last day you could apply for the winter semester. You got lucky." Clara winks. "Classes will start in January but you will get more personal information about that when you get accepted and you will. Your story is great Davina, don't underestimate yourself." She tells me and I sigh. I want to believe her but I simply don't know-how. I still don't know a lot of stuff.
"So now we have to download the Gmail app on your phone for the google account we just made. Once December rolls around be sure to check your mail every day." She tells me and I nod. I'm grateful to have a friend like her. God this will be nerve-wracking.
Clara wanted me to apply to more schools than just one but I refused. One, for now, was more than enough. So afterward we had lunch and Clara dropped me off home again. I didn't even realize I started calling the apartment home. But it's the place I like to retreat to after a long day of my messed up life. Even if Zach Bryne lives in it.
When I get home I hang up my leather jacket and drop my phone and keys on the counter. Zach is sitting on the couch on his laptop typing away. No idea what he's doing but he looks deep in thoughts. Maybe I shouldn't distract him.
