? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ?

Start from the beginning

"Hey." He then says when I was just about to go to my room. He didn't even look up from what he was doing. "Hey." I greet him with and he smiles. "How was your day?" He's starting a conversation?

"Uh, it was good. I applied to a college here in Chicago." I say and he looks up from his work. "Really? That's great." He says and I nod.

"Yeah. Until the finances come into the picture and the fact that I'm not even sure if they'll accept me." I sigh and walk to the fridge. I need to eat something. "I'm sure everything will fall into place. Maybe your sperm could help you out." He says and I look at him with a raised brow. "My sperm?"

"Yeah, you didn't want me to call him your dad or father, and I don't know the douchebag's name so... sperm." He says and I laugh. "I like that." I giggle and he smiles again. I like this Zach. "So what did you apply for?" He asks.

"Uhm Criminal justice system program at South Suburban College. Clara found it." I mumble. I don't know how Zach thinks about cops, but since he was a drug dealer and he has been to jail I don't think he's too fond of them. Most ex-convicts aren't very fond of cops.

He stays silent for a few seconds. "You want to be a cop?" He asks turning back to his work. "Not per se. More something like a prisonguard or someone who helps in the youth prisons and stuff. I'd like to help young people like you and me since nobody ever helped me in prison." I try to explain to him.

"I'm not choosing this profession to catch bad guys like most people. I choose it to guide the so-called bad guys. Support them. Because their not all bad. I know that because I was a so-called bad guy while I was just born in the wrong place." I continue and he looks at me again.

"Good for you Davina." God the way he said my name. I think I'm a little turned on. Fuck. Okay, time to retreat to my room.

But again something interrupts. A knock on the door. I look at Zach who doesn't look bothered and I open the door. It's Mason. God damn Mason, the asshole who thought he could disrespect me in my own home.

"Marc," I say, only to piss him off of course. "Mason actually." He says and I narrow my eyes. "Did I give you any indication that I give a damn? What do you want?" His eyes already full rage. I grin, god this guy gets pissed off quickly. "I'm here for Zach." He says and just lets himself in, brushing past me, shoving my shoulder. Asshole.

I turn on my heels while slamming the door closed. "I really don't get what Clara sees in you." I spit out and he looks back at me while taking a seat next to Zach. "You should ask her, I'm sure she'll give you more than one example." He winks and I'm trying not to gag. I don't even want to know.

"Okay enough bullshitting with my roommate man. We have work to do, Davina leave." Zach says and I raise my brows. "Excuse me?"

"You heard what I said, let's go." I stand there, flabbergasted. "Okay, I'll go. But only because I was about to anyway." I scoff and walk to my room. Okay so maybe that was a little childish but fuck that.

The next morning I have to wake up way too early again. Love it. My shift begins at 6 in the morning so I have to be up at 5. Jesus. I roll out of bed and get ready for work. I throw on some normal skinny jeans, my white basic t-shirt, and put my hair in a high ponytail. I still haven't begun to wear make-up, I wouldn't even know how to do that. Yet another thing Clara can explain to me.

After breakfast, I grab my phone, keys, leather jacket, and head out. My shift ends at 4 today so I have a long day ahead of me and it's filled with making coffee for other people. I have a great job. Note the sarcasm.

I walk around the back and get into the store. There, are standing a guy whose name I forgot and Jack, my boss. "Goodmorning Davina." He smiles at me and I smile back as I get to my locker. I pull out my apron and throw it on while putting my jacket and phone etc in my locker. "Ron why don't you go out in front and start the coffee machines," Jack instructs Ron.

Ron that was his name.

I turn around to look at Jack. "Anything I can do before we open?" I ask and he shakes his head. "I do have another question for you though." He says and I cock my head a little to the side.

"I'd like to give you some extra training soon, whenever fits you. I do it with every employee after they've been here for a while. Just to check if you're doing everything right and if I need to change a few things and teach you some stuff. I like doing it without customers so we can really concentrate." He says casual and I nod.

"Okay well, I could already do it tonight. I don't have any plans so if you're available." I offer and he nods. "That's good, we close at nine tonight so if you're here at 9:15 that would be perfect." He says and I nod. "Okay, I'll be there," I say and then turn to leave to the front of the store.

"Davina, could you turn the open/closed sign?" Ron asks me and I nod doing as he asked. Then I join him behind the counter. "So what do you prefer?" I ask him and he points to the cash register. I chuckle.

"Okay, that means I'm on drink duty for now." And I begin getting some products ready to make usual drinks. By now I can easily predict which drinks are ordered at what time of the day. There are only a few weirdos that always order something specific.

"So what were you talking about with Jack?" Ron asks after there still not coming any customers. "About that check-up thing, where he checks in private if you're a good employee," I answer. I don't know what he actually called it. "Check-up thing?"

"Yeah, where he after a few weeks checks if you're doing a good job. He said he does it with every employee." Right? "Maybe, I don't remember him doing it with me." He says, deep in thoughts. Uhm okay. I can feel my gut screaming. Telling me that this doesn't feel good.

"Hey don't worry about it." Ron then reassures me. He probably saw me look worried. "Jack's a great manager. It's probably just a new thing he has only done with the newest employees. I've been working here for a year now so I'm not that new anymore." He tells me and I nod a little relieved.

When my shifts finally over I decide to go home, eat something, freshen up, and then come back here at 9:15. At home, Zach's gone and I'm happy. That dick Mason really needs to pull that stick up his ass out. Maybe Clara can help him with that. Speaking of her, I should call her about my make-up interest.

"Hey Dav, what's up?" I hear her ask on the other line. "Hey, can we hang out soon. It's time for my new life experience: Make-up." I hear her shriek on the other line. "Oh my god yes! Can I come over tonight?!" She asks excitedly and I shake my head. "No, I need to be back at Starbucks at 9:15. Another night?" I ask laughing.

"Starbucks at 9:15? Isn't Starbucks closed by then?" She asks.

"Yeah, Jack is doing this new check-up thing. Making sure I'm doing my job right." I tell her and she's silent for a second. "Clara?"

"Sorry uh, I got distracted for a second. Hey how about tomorrow, when are you free?"

"I'm done at noon, around 3."

"Okay, so I'll be at yours around 4. How does that sound? I'll bring the make-up." She tempts me with and I laugh again. "It's a date. Hey, see you tomorrow yeah?"

"Yay! See you tomorrow!" She says back and I hang up with a smile on my face. Little weirdo.
