"You ready go soon?" Liu questioned.
"Yeah" you mutter.
He couldn't help but give a look of sympathy, you felt shameful but it was hard.
"I really don't think you should do this. I can't protect you this way"
"I didn't feel protected enough in the first place" you counter.
"...Come down when you're ready" he told you before leaving.
You stare down at the floor below you, you couldn't help but see the images of those dead men in your head.
You hear someone clear their throat and you look up to see Hoodie standing in the doorway.
"Are you leaving?""I guess..."
"For good?"
"I don't know. But for now I am."
"Really?" He stuffed his hands in his hoody pocket as he leaned against the doorframe "I thought your were more stronger minded than that...do you want my honest opinion?"
"Not really, but go for it" you shrug
"You should stay. It's selfish of you to leave"
"Are you serious?!" You stand up, surprised at his statement.
"You never thanked Masky for what he did for you" he stated bluntly
"Masky tried to attack me and he's threatened me many times!" You tell him feeling your patience slip away.
...
"Follow." He demanded
You let out an agitated sigh before following behind him. He glanced around before he led you to a door that hid a staircase behind it.
"Go. It's only the basement""Yeah, only the basement" you mock looking at him suspiciously, he didn't seem threatening but he was stern.
"Fine."You open the door and walk down the old, creaking stairs.
You eventually reach the bottom. It was an old, worn room. A stone floor and walls.
But what you saw next took you by surprise."It's because he killed those two men when it wasn't his time" hoodie spoke up behind you but you couldn't help but keep your gaze fixated on Masky.
He was on his knees.
His wrists were in tight cuffs that were connected to chains, linked into the stone wall behind him.
He was chained to a wall.
He didn't have his jacket on, just his white shirt, jeans and boots. He was sweating and breathing heavily which was muffled through his mask, it sounded as though he was in pain."Why are you doing this? He's suffering!" You tell him frantically walking closer, Hoodie followed closely.
"You're right, he is suffering" He spoke blankly "This is what happens when we kill when we aren't meant to..I had no choice but to chain him down here until he wears himself out"
"That's horrible" you muttered, Masky looked up, noticing both you and Hoodie's presence and he pushed himself up standing straight.
"You" He spoke up shakily as your breath hitched in your throat.
He went to charge towards you but the chains yanked at his wrists holding him back bringing him to his knees again, he let out a groan in pain and you stumble backwards into hoodie, his hands grip your shoulders to hold you still."You can't do this to him he's in pain!"
The shame you felt before had only doubled. He was a dick but this was too far."Sure. I'll let him go, If you're okay with him killing you, the rest of us and the town ...if he brings attention to himself the boss will kill him for exposing us...that's if the police don't put him down like a dog first"
"Shit i remember being told that..." you couldn't take your eyes off him as he continued to suffer with his urges, grunting to himself as he hunched over in pain.
"And you were going to leave without even saying a thank you"
"It's just hard to try and get along when you're all against me in the first place"
"That's true, i admit." Hoodies grip tightened as he leant down close to your ear.
"But you're better than us, right?"Masky continued to pull on his chains causing loud metallic bangs to echo through the basement "I'll fucking kill you both!"
"Harsh." He muttered. "Ignore what he says. He'd save you again and so would we, but now you're willing to risk it with Jane? We agreed to protect you but not from the stupid decisions you try to make...getting your grandparents killed? that'll be your fault"
His grip loosened as he stood up straight
"I'm not forcing you to stay. I just thought you should know what we put on the line when we agreed to protect you..."
he moved in front of you to block your view from Masky, his finger and thumb held your chin.
"If you're the 'good' girl I assume you are-"His gloved hand then lightly gripped your face, he looked down on you as he forced your gaze onto his red frown.
"-then I trust you can make the right choice" He continued "Right now he's putting up with the most unbearable pain and a constant need to rip somebody's throat out...the least you can do is put up with a bit of bullying until they're used to having you here"
"Hoodie-"
"I can trust you. Right?" His tone stayed stern, meaning every word he said with a harsh bluntness.
You slightly nod before he released you."Remember. Your life isn't the only one being turned upside down by this mess. It's new for us too"
Before you could speak he left going up the stairs with his hands tucked in his pockets, not bothering to look back once.
"Hoodie!" You call out to him but he didn't bother to respond as he disappeared from sight. Then the door slammed shut.
"Shit..." you mumble feeling guilty and conflicted.
You decide to look back at Masky since he was no longer making any noise or pulling on the chains, he was just knelt there completely still. His slightly damp hair hung over his mask'After all of the abuse he's given me...why do I feel awful seeing him like this? it terrifies me but it makes me want to break him out and help him, but this isn't a fan fiction...I'd die the second he'd get his hands on me, all he sees now is red...and it's my fault'
"Thank you..." you mutter quietly.
"Y/n! You shouldn't be down here" Liu called as he quickly made his way down the stairs.
You glance at him as he looked towards Masky, he was exhausted.
"Who brought you down here?" He asked concerned and somewhat angry."It doesn't matter" you answer him looking back at Masky "but I...I change my mind."
"What? Are you sure?" He asked as he led you back upstairs.
"Im sure" you sigh as Liu shut and locked the basement door.
'Hoodie's left me with a guilty conscience...dick. He knew exactly what he was doing.
I've got to tough this out'
