Kong finally got a break from his work. Earlier, he was merely a resident. Later he decided to pick up Paediatrics. So he would have a lot of crying little patients, whom he had to console, distract and become friends with. He had just completed a surgery on a 6 month old baby boy. Tired, he decided to refresh by going to May's clinic.
She was busy with the last few patients, and asked Kong to wait outside for a few mins. He decided to go through his phone for the time being. Soon, his eyes landed on a young girl, probably in her early twenties. She was sobbing quietly in a corner. He cautiously went to her, and sat down next to her. He felt bad, just ignoring the girl.
"Are you alright?" He asked softly. She started sobbing even more. Kong gently rubbed her back to soothe her.
"I- It says I'm pregnant." She said in between sobs. "My boyfriend for three years dumped me. I can't go back to him. My parents don't know about it." She was shaking. Kong tried his best to calm her.
"Its going to be fine. You'll get through this. Be strong." Kong spoke reassuringly.
He couldn't help but be reminded of his own time. After all, he had gone through a very similar situation. He still remembered every little detail.
*Flashback*
"You, umm" she began. "Kong, I think you're pregnant." What? How was that even possible? Are they playing a joke on him? Is it 1st of April?
"That's not possible." Kong reasoned. His voice was still weak and raspy.
"Even I thought so, but the reports are here Kong. And it says that you are pregnant. We tested you twice to make sure." Kong was alarmed. Was he dreaming again? He looked at his parents, they held concerned expressions.
"May, Aim, would you give is some privacy?" His father requested. They both obliged and silently walked out, closing the door behind them.
"Kongpob, there is something we should have told you a long time ago." He began. His voice was soft, as if talking to a five year old. Kong just stared at him, a thousand questions running in his mind.
"Not long after you were born, we discovered you weren't an ordinary boy. It is a medical condition, where a male can bear children too. You were always kind of weak and delicate, fell ill easily, and shied away from people.
"Your real mother and I, were very worried about you. The doctors suggested to keep you indoors for as much as possible. They also specified, that you mustn't get pregnant, under any condition. It is dangerous for you, even life threatening." There was a hint of fear in his voice. Kong was listening intently, but it wasn't sinking in. He could not believe it. All this seemed like a sick joke.
"When she died, your entire responsibility was on me. I didn't know how to make you understand this situation, so I just kept it a secret, and forbade you from going out and making friends instead. I was harsh on you, stayed away from you, because you looked a lot like her. I was a bad father to you. I'm sorry Kongpob." His voice was sincere, and Kong could already feel years of anger slowly melting.
"Please forgive me, I failed you as a father." He looked down, almost begging Kong. Who would've thought the great gang leader, that everyone feared, would show this vulnerable side.
"I- I forgive you father." Kong said after thinking deeply. He didn't want to keep any grudge against his parents. It wasn't even his concern at the moment. There were bigger things to deal with. His father looked up, and Kong could've sworn he saw a tear forming, but he quickly blinked it away.
"Thank you. Thank you so much, son." His father said with emotions, Kong couldn't even associate with him.
"Now, about the child, I'll file for abortion. We'll take care of it." He reassured sitting next to Kong and holding his hand.
"No! No I don't want an abortion." Kong shook his head. He didn't want to kill the little one. It would be so wrong to end its life even before it came to the world.
"But Kong, we must do it. You bearing a child is not possible. It is dangerous for you." His father said worried.
"It doesn't matter. I don't have a reason to live anyway. But this baby, might give me one. I don't mind dying, while bringing this baby into the world."
"But Kong, you're not understanding-"
"Doctors are meant to save lives, not take them. My decision is final." He declared.
His father didn't think he had the right to argue. Kong was capable of making his own decisions, and all he could do was finally allow him, to follow his own will. He wanted to support Kong in whatever he did, something he should've done a long time ago.
May and Aim tried to convince him too, but his decision was firm. He was ready for it, even after all the risks. Kong knew, it was somebody else's child too, as much as his own. Somebody he hated from the bottom of his heart. But that would never affect his love for this unborn baby.
He had come to know that it would be a baby girl, which made him very happy. Aim, May and his parents, all who were against it, finally accepted Kong's decision seeing his happiness. Kong vowed to keep her like a princess, give her the best things, and shower all his love on her.
It was soon realised that the healthcare wasn't that efficient there. The decision was made, to move to US for better treatment. Kong also wanted to go away from his current surroundings. His parents agreed, since having Kong around in such a delicate condition would be a threat for him, as well as their gang business. He moved to US with May, and Aim followed soon after.
Now, Kong had a reason to live. If not for himself, he had to live for his princess, his Thara.
