Leon

Leon loved Vera like his own but at that moment he wanted to strangle her for leaving him alone with Rickie. No. Friedrich. His name was bloody Friedrich.

Rickie had been a beautiful illusion.

"I never thought I would see you again. Specially not here. It's been a rather long time since we last saw eachother." Friedrich broke the awkward silence.

He was leaning against the wall. Leon could feel the phantom touch of the man's eyes on his skin. It repulsed and excited him.

"Yeah it's been Seventy fucking years since you disapeared on me without saying goodbye." He failed to conceal the bitterness in his voice. "Not that I'm holding it against you. You never promised me anything."

"I've never been good with goodbyes." Friedrich said, looking away with shameful eyes.

"No shit arsehole."

Friedrich sighed. "Are you going to scream at me too?"

"I have better things to do. But know this, if your daughter bothers mine again, I will kill her."

Friedrich laughed, the sound as melodic as ever.

Leon stalked towards him and grabbed his lapels, bringing Friedrich's face towards his own. "You think I'm joking you bloody bastard?" He could feel the anxious beating of Friedrich's heart against his.

"Not at all. I'm laughing at this fucked up situation."

"Stop laughing and start trying to fix it. Your family has brought enough pain and suffering to mine. It's time you put an stop to it before I lose my bloody temper." Leon let go and stepped back.

Friedrich sighed, looking exhausted. "I am trying but as you've seen, Artemis is...difficult."

"I don't care. Try harder. You're a useless father if you can't put a leash on your daughter."

"I'm well aware of my failures." Friedrich's voice was dry.

"A reminder never hurts." Leon put his hand on the door knob, ready to leave, even though his stupid heart was begging him to stay.

Just a little longer. Just another look. Just another violent touch.

"Leon?" Friedrich called out to him, voice as warm as honey.

It took Leon to the past, When he used to fill his heart with joy and hold him through the night.

"What?" Leon snapped.

"Aren't you going to ask why?"

"I know why." Leon said without turning around.
"You cared more about your daughter and your bloody politics and you couldn't play house with a whore forever. That's beneath you."

"Don't call yourself that." He felt Friedrich's soft touch on his shoulder.

Leon turned around and pushed him away. "Why not? That's who I was to you. Just a pretty whore who kept your bed warm. That was the agreement, wasn't it?"

"You know things changed between us. I loved you. I still do." Friedrich's eyes were watery and sad.

Leon hated that his heart softened at the sight. "Stop lying. Stop this."

"I know I'm not a good person but I didn't want to leave you. I had to. I asked for a year and Artemis agreed. A year to know what it meant to be happy. You knew I would leave eventually. I didn't want you to get hurt because of me."

"You leaving hurt me. You don't get to say that. Not after you told me I was your everything and then walked out like I was nothing. Yes I knew you wouldn't stay for ever but it doesn't mean I can't hate you for it."

"I'm really sorry. I wish there was a way I could make it up to you." Friedrich looked broken, a mirror to Leon's heart.

"There isn't." Leon's voice clogged up with emotion. The door closed with a bang after him.
