Not Just Anybody

"Stop it! You're hurting her!" I screamed as the disgusting excuse of a human being, known as Curtis Hargreaves, also known as 'dad', to dear old me, kept slamming my mother's broken and bruised body against the concrete floor. "Please!" I begged, wishing he would stop.

He smiled the evilest of smiles, "Not a chance in hell." He stated.

"You're killing her!" I cried. Rushing to find my phone, I need to call for help!

"If you don't shut that trap of yours, I'll kill you too!" He yelled at me before reaching over to the broken lamp that was on the floor and throwing it at me.

I jumped out of the way before running out of the house, I ran as fast as my feet could take me. Searching and screaming for help.

But I was too late...

I woke up with a fright, sweat rolling down my forehead and Clare quietly chanting soothing words to me.

"It's okay, you're safe, you don't have to be afraid anymore," she reassured me calmly.

I looked to the nightstand and saw that the alarm clock read 5:30AM. I groaned, what a way to start off my first day at Degrassi. Waking up from a nightmare of my old life. Well, I say my old life, but the truth is, that life was still my reality up until 2 weeks ago.

Because of that damned night my whole life changed, I had to leave behind my old school, my family (what was left of it), my friends (not that I had any), everything. All because of the disgusting piece of shit that was my father.

Luckily enough, the Edwards family were insistent about taking me in, giving me a home, a life, something to look forward to when I wake up on a morning. I've known them practically my whole life. When Clare and I were around 5 years old, we both started going to the Annual Summer Church Camp that a lot of the churches sent their youngest members to, so they could learn the ways of the Lord in a fun, but supervised, camp, retreat sort of way.

But the way I had to enter the Edwards family is a long and very painful, no, brutal story. One we can share at another time.

For now, all you need to know, is that my name is Copeland Hargreaves. But no one at my new school will know that, everyone at my new school will believe that my name is Copeland Edwards. And as far as everyone else is concerned, I am now Clare's new adopted sibling.

Well, Degrassi. This is going to be an interesting year.
