Her life was swirling as she ran home. Tears poured down her cheeks and hit the hard, cold concrete beneath her. Her heart shattered when she read the message, the pain of it filling her and not once leaving her aching chest. Once she was back at home she ran straight to her room and ignored her parent's questions. She cried into her pillow, drenching her bed and not even caring. The image of him and Chloe together cursed her head, a constant play of what happened between them not giving her a break. All she could think about was him and what he did.
"Honey, it's your mum, are you okay in there?"
Marinette sat up from her bed and wiped her tears, her face blotchy and eyes bloodshot. "No mum, I'm not okay," she said while sniffing.
Sabine opened the door and comforted her daughter while she cried. To Marinette, this seemed like the worst thing that could ever happen to her, as if her world had just shattered.
She was sat in silence in her mother's arms when the doorbell rang. "I should go get that. I love you Marinette. It will get better, I promise you," her mother said to her quietly.
She stood up and kissed Marinette on the forehead before going to answer the door. There were a few minutes of silence before her mum shouted up to her.
"Marinette! Your friends are here, they're heading up now." Marinette quickly cleaned her face of the streaking mascara and put on a fake smile ready for the people to make their way up the stairs.
Marinette cleaned her face of the streaking mascara and put on a fake smile ready for the people to make their way up the stairs; not sure if she could do it but thought she'd try to brave it through. She was sure she could find happiness elsewhere, right?
The two faces to make an appearance were Adrien and Alya, her two closest friends. Alya knew about Luka already so as soon as she brought it up again, she began crying into her arms. Adrien watched as her friend cried, wishing she could do more to help...
"Marinette?" Adrien said.
She looked up at him with her red eyes, "Yes Adrien. What is it?"
He held her hand and looked into her big, bluebell eyes that were glassy from tears, "You deserve so much more than someone who will cheat on you, Mari. You're beautiful, talented, kind and so much more. I remember how much you helped me when my dad was being horrible to me and how you helped me feel welcome in a new school. You are always so caring towards absolutely everything. I couldn't imagine life without you."
Marinette smiled as only a single tear rolled down her cheek. "Thank you, Adrien," she responded with a croak in her voice.
Adrien pulled her in for a hug and she felt the same sparks she did when she first fell for him all those years ago; the strengthening of the tie between them causing her heart to feel as if it was glowing. Mari panicked. She can't feel sparks again, not after Luka and not with Adrien again. Not after last time.
"Um, well I think I'll be okay if you guys want to go now," she blurted out while sniffing and pushing away from Adrien's embrace.
"I'm sorry Marinette but my dad does want me back. I hope you feel better soon," he responded, smiling lightly as he left the room.
Alya turned to Marinette after he left, "Girll, I know you just fell for him all over again."
Mari blushed to a crimson red, holding her hands to her face to hide it but feeling her cheeks heating up, "Alya! No, he's just a friend. I'm still upset over Luka. I will not fall for Adrien again."
"Okay, if you say so." She giggled and for the first time since her heartbreak, Marinette laughed feeling the pain subside a little.
The two just hung out for a while to get Mari's mind off Luka and Chloe. Alya left her house an hour or two after Adrien, which left Marinette alone in her room, but she didn't feel as sad as she did earlier in the day. The interaction with her friends the hours before seemed to lift her spirits after the sad day she just dealt with.
When Adrien got home it wasn't the happy welcome he'd hoped for. He left a little late from Mari's house and therefore got home a little bit after his curfew. He attempted to sneak up the stairs in silence, hoping to avoid the wrath of his father, but as a step creaked and his face scrunched up, he turned around and found himself staring into his dad's angry eyes.
"Where have you been?" Gabriel said, his voice in a hushed tone as he had reached such anger he couldn't even scream.
"I just stayed late at school and went to a friends house because she was upset. It's no big deal dad," Adrien said as he attempted to push past his dad.
"No big deal. No big deal!" he mocked, "It is a big deal, Adrien! We're a famous family. People know you. You can't just do stuff that wasn't planned."
"Dad it was a trip to a friend's house not smoking in the car park! It's literally no big deal!" Adrien began to shout, finally getting angry at his dad after years of putting up with it.
"Well, you can't just go to friends houses. There are dating rumours, people taking photos of you as you leave, you've had people follow you before!" he screamed, "How dare you act so reckless Adrien!"
If there was more glass in the entranceway, it would've smashed at the volume of his voice.
His mother overheard and came downstairs to calm down the situation, "Gabriel. Stop it." she said and then turned to Adrien, "He's angry and doesn't mean it. Do remember though, you are the face of our brand and very popular within the city so be careful with what you do and get back on curfew."
Emilie smiled sweetly at Adrien and guided Gabriel up the stairs, him muttering words to her under his breath. Adrien nodded and tried to walk to his room before he was interrupted.
"Adrien, I need to talk to you after school tomorrow. Meet me in my office when you get home," her father said to him over his shoulder as he was entering his room.
"Okay, father."
At school the next day Marinette couldn't bring up the courage to walk into class, not until Alya was there to walk in with her. When she went in she saw Luka sat next to Chloe and Sabrina had taken his old space next to Marinette. Alya looked at her sympathetically but Marinette decided to not let Luka get to her anymore and she walked straight past them and sat down in her seat.
"I'm going to the park during lunch if you guys want to come?" she asked her friends, knowing Luka could hear. They all said yes but straight after, Miss Mendeleiev shouted at them, so they all shut up quickly; none of them were in the mood for her overly long detentions.
Once they were all at the park, they were all silently staring at Marinette not knowing what to say. "Guys, I'm fine, you don't need to panic about me anymore. Luka and Chloe deserve each other." Marinette said, breaking the uncomfortable silence. After she said that you could feel the tension leave the group of, now, five.
