Mayson's POV:
I've always been wondering on what is it like outside that barrier that has been keeping us locked inside ever since 1468. Everyday, I would sit down under the tree-facing the barrier, thinking of what's life on the other side.
You see, the reason why this barrier has been here for centuries is because of those demons have been destroying humanity. If this barrier wasn't built, then humans might have been extinct. It's hard to believe, but the people in the Kingdom of Twilight were the last to survive from the war of humanity against demons.
Our Kingdom, as of today, has been struggling on trying to survive under the protection of Haven's Dawn Military. People hated the military for being weak. Each day, they would loose a soldier outside the barrier and come back without any victories. In people's eyes, they're nothing but useless soldiers.
I tilt my head up facing to the sky, wondering what will happen next. Suddenly, someone called my name.
"Mayson.~"
By the voice, I knew that it was my sister, Giselle. My name sounds beautiful whenever I hear it from her.
From her beautiful scent, I would close my eyes and smile.
"Prince of the Dawn, mother is calling you.~" She would sit down beside me, putting an apple she brought on my chest. "Stop calling me 'Prince of the Dawn', Giselle." I open my eyes, grab the apple and sit down to eat it.
"We have to go already. The soldiers are about to arrive soon." Giselle would stand up, carrying a basket of bread.
I also stand up and walk on the way back to the village with Giselle. Of course, I want to see the soldiers. I want to cheer for them.
I want to cheer for them on a crowd filled with hate.
~•~
At the entrance gate of the barrier, there are guards waiting for the soldiers to come. One of the guards are actually my uncle, Felix Lewis.
"Oh, hey there, Prince of the Dawn!" He would wave at us with a smile that I usually see in him.
"Stop calling me Prince of the Dawn, old man." I grab an apple from Giselle's basket and give it to him.
"Thanks, Mayson." He took a bite from the apple.
"By the way, who is this Prince of the Dawn. You guys kept calling me that ever since I started to cheer for the Soldiers." I asked.
"You mean, you don't know him!?" Giselle was shocked of what she heard.
"Well, yeah. No one ever spoke of that nickname to me but you guys along with mom and dad."
Uncle put the apple on his table and sit on his chair. "He's well-known for being the legendary hero in this kingdom over the past 19 years, but became ill after protecting the kingdom from the ultimate ambush of the demons. Since then, he hasn't showed up. Not even to the soldiers. His name faded from people's minds, they forgot about him."
The three of us became silent. The prince is very mysterious that it made me think of what we're the possibilities of his mysterious lost.
"Felix, the soldiers are here." Said the guard.
"Alright, you two go on the side already. Haven's Dawn Military is about to come in." Uncle stood up, grab his helmet and wear it. All the guards were back on their usual positions.
The people were whispering something bad again.
"Move aside! The soldiers are coming!"
Everyone step aside as the soldiers entered while riding on their horses.
"(Look, the mighty soldiers are here.)"
"Yeah, right. As if they were meant to be called as 'mighty'."
"(Shh! You're too loud!)"
...
I want to defend them... but I just can't.
Why... why can't I defend them?
Can't I just speak up for them? Even just a little?
From their faces and the bloodstain on their uniforms, I know they tried so hard that they even ended up losing a soldier.
Why can't they be pity for them, 'just for once?'
