"To be fair, you have to have a very high IQ to understand quantum physics," Phineas Flynn boasted.
"How dare you assume I don't have a high IQ!" Y/N teased.
Y/N says this, but she secretly is failing Algebra 1 for the third time as a highschool senior. She felt comfortable around the red-head, but something was bothering her. As if someone was watching the back of her head. While Phineas was blabbing about neutrino oscillations in vacuums, Y/N whipped her head around to catch whatever was giving her that eerie feeling.
She saw Ferb, Phineas's step-brother, a quiet, stoic, yet handsome man, peeking around the corner of the brothers' house. She felt a bubbling sense of anxiety rise to her red cheeks. Ferb gazed at her for a few seconds more, and then slipped back into the shadows. Y/N slowly turned back around and stared off into the distance.
Why was he watching her?
"Hey, earth to Y/N. You okay?" Phineas asked, snapping his fingers to get her attention.
"Huh, oh, yeah, I'm fine," she replied in a daze-like tone. She thought that Ferb's behavior was relatively strange, he'd always been quiet, but never distant. However, she cared about Ferb, maybe even romantically, but that was besides the point. The point was if something was wrong with Ferb, she needed to let Phineas know. Pulling herself out of her trance, she whispered, leaning in towards Phineas, "Has Ferb been acting, I don't know, distant lately?".
"No, he's been pretty normal"
"Then how come he didn't hang out with us today?"
"Hmm, I don't know, when I told him you were coming he nodded and went to our room. I thought he'd come back out when you got here, but I guess not."
"Do you think he's mad at me for something?"
"No way, he only gets mad at people if they hurt the people he cares about, and you haven't done anything wrong. Hey, don't look so down, maybe he's just tired!"
Y/N knew he wasn't tired, but Phineas was right, she really hadn't done anything. If the guy she liked hated her, she didn't know how she'd be able to see him in public. "Maybe you're right, Phineas. Well, it was nice seeing you, but I think I have to head home. See you later," she mumbled.
"See ya, Y/N, and don't sweat the whole Ferb thing, it's not a big deal," he replied softly.
"Right..." she defeatedly sighed as she trudged back to her house.
