It's been a week since we figured out Griffin's going to Juilliard. It's the Fourth Of July weekend so his family is having a big cookout.
Like usual, I'm invited. Parker is too so we're both trying to figure out what to wear. I put on a white floral dress with a green cardigan.
I straighten my hair as I look at myself. Zoey and Kyle should be back from their honeymoon so they should be there.
"Sis, you almost ready?" Parker asked walking in. She was wearing a black shirt tucked into paperback shorts.
"Can you grab my keys? I just have one more piece left." She walked away to find them. I straightened the last of my hair, and unplugged it.
I walk out of my room, Parker handed me my keys. We drive to Griffin's to see we were some of the last ones to show up.
"How are we always late?" Parker asked as I opened the door. "I have no idea." I laughed. Everyone was hanging out, having their own conversations.
"There's our two girls!" Grant smiled when we walked in. "Griffin's out back." Parker and I made our separate ways.
As I go outside, I wave to Griffin's mom which was in the kitchen. I open the back door and step outside.
The first thing I saw was Griffin playing corn hole. He had a beer in his hand so I could tell he was already tipsy.
"Hey bitch!" He greeted me. "What's up my soon to be Juilliard star." I smile towards him. "Did you see who's here?" I look at him confused.
He pointed his beer bottle in front of him. I smiled when I saw them.
It looks like the two people he was playing against was Colby and Elton. Holy shit! "What're you two doing here?" I ask walking up to them.
"Griffin told me about it so I figured we could come celebrate with you." Elton told me. I hugged him first.
Even though it's been a week, it's been too long. After hugging Elton, I went over to Colby. "Hey, gorgeous." He flirted.
"Hey, handsome." I got on my tippy toes and pecked his lips. Griffin and Elton started gagging, making Colby and I smile a little.
Us four play corn hole for while, when Parker came outside she was excited to see the boys. But once done with corn hole, Elton and Parker caught up.
"Griffin's family can really throw a party." Colby said as we drank. "That is what they're known for." I joke along with him.
"That's crazy though, I'm proud he got into Juilliard." I love how close we've all gotten.
I nod in agreement. I then started looking around to see where he was. "Have you seen him?" I asked as he sighed.
"I think he's talking to his aunt and uncle." My eyes widened. "Oh shit." I whisper standing up.
He followed me, walking towards the house. "What's wrong?" He asked confused.
"His aunt and uncle don't know he's gay and he's drunk." I worriedly say. When I walk inside, I see them sitting on the couch.
They then smiled and they hugged. I watched him stand up as he wiped his tears. He came over to me smiling.
"I told them. They know I'm gay. And they're not even upset." He happily said. I know it was like a weight lifted off of his shoulder.
I couldn't be more happier than him. "Come here, bitch." I wrapped my arms him as I held him.
He was so nervous to tell them. And they're okay with it. "Guys, foods ready." Griffin's dad walked in with a tray of burgers and hot dogs.
"Food?" Griffin pulled away and walked towards it. And just like that he was back to his usual self. He may be acting normal, but I know how happy he is.
"Let's eat." Colby smiled. We got our food and ate outside. "It feels good to be back in Kansas during the Fourth of July." He told me honestly.
"How much do you miss it?" I ask curious. "On a scale of one to ten, probably an eleven." He honestly told me.
We all hung out for a while. The four of us again. It felt good. I realized these are my people. Griffin is my best friend.
He's the person that gets me and will always get me. Elton's like the father figure that Parker will never get. But he's like an older brother to me.
But then there's Colby. He's different. I'm falling for him everyday I talk to him. It happened so quickly too.
"Syd, you gonna come watch the fireworks?" Griffin asked pulling me out of my thoughts. I didn't even realize it was dark out.
We go out in the street so we could watch the big firework show. We could always see it at Griffin's house.
As I wait, I start to think to myself. What would it be like if I never talked to Colby at that wedding? What would it be like if I never went?
I always said weddings were never my forte, but maybe I can make one exception.
Yeah, I know it's early to even think about it, but hopefully it'll happen one day. Cause it's taken me two months to fall for Colby.
It might've been two months for you, but for me? It was in a heartbeat. From the first glance, I knew I liked Colby.
Back when I called him eye contact. And I was too scared to talk to him. The first firework went off causing everyone to cheer.
"I'm so glad to be here with you, baby." Colby told me. I could get used to being called baby. "Me too." I kiss his lips as another one went off.
It really was magical. When we pulled away, I looked over at Griffin, Elton, and Parker. They were all laughing at something.
Who knows, two thirds of them were drunk. Griffin was finally going into Juilliard and told his aunt and uncle he was gay.
Parker's way more confident with herself after meeting Elton. And as for me? I think I found the one that makes me feel good.
It's like all the puzzle pieces are connected
