I felt a light tap on my shoulder, awakening me from a nap I didn't intended to have. I slowly opened my eyes and looked around, seeing Yunho on the driver seat, looking at us as he parked in front of our house. I glanced at my daughter, who is peacefully sleeping on my lap. I sighed, seeing the back of her hand with the evidence from the IV fluid she received earlier."You look so peaceful in your nap, I don't want to wake you but it's better if you continue your sleep on your bed." Yunho uttered calmly, unbuckling his seatbelt. "Let me carry Dahlia for you." He stepped out of his wrangler, jogging towards Dahlia's side before opening the door. He carefully placed his arm behind her head and legs as he pull her closer to his chest; with his huge built compared to how tiny she was at the age of four, I can't help but break into a smile.
He stood there, offering his hand as he helped me hop off of his car before walking behind me as I lead the way towards our house. It isn't as grand as other people expected me to have, with the career I have as of now and the fashion house I am handling. It is just enough for me and my little one. Two rooms; one for me and one for her, training her to sleep on her own from time to time. A kitchen and dining room as one, a living room, bathroom and a walk in closet. No second floors, no stairs. No maid, just someone who babysits and tutor Dahlia every morning while I work. Afterall, a grand house isn't what you'll go home to, it's who is in it.
I opened the door and turned on the lights, closing it as Yunho entered; walking as gentle as possible to not interrupt Dahlia's peaceful sleeping. After a day spent in the hospital, the doctor finally allowed her to go home; thankfully, Yunho is there to entertain her within the four white walls she always feel unsafe within.
I turned on the lamp on the side as Yunho tucked her to bed, ensuring she is comfortable and warm enough. It wasn't the first time Yunho entered our safest place. My daughter practically grew up having him by her side, providing her the father figure she needed. It is a fear of mine, of having my child grew up with an incomplete family but it is more terrifying to grow up with a complete family yet wrecked deep within. Knowing how I'll never be the same, after being betrayed like that with the person I trusted the most, I realized it is better for her to have an environment like this; it might be sad along the way at some point, but with all my might, I will provide her everything she needed to grow up gracefully with nothing but kindness and love in her heart.
I stood by the doorway, watching Yunho pat her back to sleep before giving her a kiss on the forehead as he walked towards me. Stretching his shoulders. He must be tired, working and playing with a kid.
"Don't worry too much, she is as tough as you are." He mumbled, giving me a smile and a gentle pat on top of my head.
"She's tougher than me." I mumble, slowly closing the door halfway so the lights from the living room won't wake her up. "You must be hungry. We haven't had any meal yet. Did you even eat lunch?"
He shook his head and sat on one of the chairs as I open the fridge. It was almost empty. I was so busy with work that even the groceries were forgotten. I sighed in frustration, taking out a pitcher of orange juice and placing it on the table.
"I have no food in my fridge. Just leftovers, and Dahlia's strawberries." I looked at him apologetically, handing him a glass of orange juice as I sit in front of him.
"Well, do you have milk?" He asked, pursing his lips as he motion towards the box of fruit loops on the shelf. "I mean, who says cereals are only for breakfast?"
