I CAN'T BELIEVE YOU
YOU'RE NEVER LIKE THIS
WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU
WHY DID YOU DO THIS TO ME
NEVERMIND
I deserve it
I'm a jerk
I shouldn't have snapped
I'm so stupid
I'm an idiot
Where did you go
Why won't you answer me
How bad did I screw up
I don't know how else to apologize
God help me, WHY WON'T YOU ANSWER
ITS SO LATE
I love you, please don't leave me like our parents did (y/n). I can't lose you too
I want to die, please call me

You froze in fear, tears forming as you stared at your screen. You were shaking from head to toe. You held your phone out with a hand over your mouth. Steven saw your face drop and rushed to give you a big squeeze. You leaned onto his shoulder and began bawling like a baby. Steven held you close as you continued your sob fest, stroking your hair to try to calm you down. He saw the texts as you were scrolling through them. He couldn't even begin to imagine the pain you were going through. He stared at you with furrowed brows and worried eyes and you sat back up.
"Steven, what-what do I do? What if he actually-" you stopped as the thought hit you. "I want to die, please call me."
He wouldn't.
You ran out the front door as fast as you could, Steven trailing you while screaming your name repeatedly. You kept calling Ryan over and over with no answer. Your worry began to grow more and more every time your calls were not picked up. You continued to run through the sand to your house despite how you could barely see, due to all the tears in your eyes blocking your view. You began to see the roof of your house as you made your way down the street. You were just about to reach the house when you heard panting behind you. Steven. Through all of the panic, you almost forgot. You stopped dead in your tracks and turned around to face him, your face red and tear-stained and your clothes were covered in sand.
Steven caught up to you and gave you a quick hug with an 'I'm here for you' look. He grabbed your hand and you walked up to the doorstep. You jumped on the plant pot and got the spare key from the top of the doorframe to get inside. You unlocked the door, took a deep breath, then walked in the door. You began to search high and low for your brother. You shouted his name, your voice echoing in the empty home. He was nowhere to be found. You went to cry again, but you had cried so much, it was making you sick. You looked at Steven for a second with a pale face before rushing to the bathroom, Steven walking there behind you. He got to the door just as you closed it and threw up in the toilet.
You stayed in the bathroom for a while, Steven wincing outside the door every time he heard you throw up. After you felt like you were done, you had a drink of water, cleaned up, then opened the door. Steven put an arm around your shoulder and walked you over to the couch. You sat with your head in your hands as Steven rubbed your back. "Do you wanna go back to my place and get some rest? We can always sort this out in the morning," Steven suggested. You rose back up and nodded in agreement. You both got up and walked back outside. You locked your front door and hid the key again. Steven picked you up and you both flew back to his house. Only this time, the fly didn't help your mood. Instead of the sky feeling clear and bright, it felt foggy and damp. You felt the darkness of the sky cloud over you and you yawned groggily. Steven had to wake you up before you landed, so he could get you back upstairs. You landed on his balcony and walked into his bedroom
You got back into bed where you were sleeping last, and so did Steven. "Goodnight, (y/n). I'm here if you need anything," Steven said as he turned to face the wall. He expected you to fall straight asleep but was taken by surprise when you spoke one more time.
"Steven?"
"Yeah?"
"Thank you," you said, giving him a hug. He smiled at you before closing his eyes. Except this time, he didn't face away. He stayed right where he was because you were already asleep and he wasn't about to wake you up again. Instead, he stayed facing you, and he fell asleep with his arm around you, and yours around his.

You woke up with a huge headache, vaguely recalling the events of last night. You looked over to see Steven, asleep with his arm around you. You had moved around a bit during the night, so your arm didn't stay where it was when you fell asleep, unlike Steven. He barely moved a muscle. You slipped out from underneath him and slid a pillow under his arm to make it seem like you were still there. You tip-toed downstairs to be greeted by the bright morning sun, beaming through the large windows in the main room. You rummaged through Steven's fridge to see what he had to eat when you came across some fruit. You grabbed your all-time favorite and sat down at the counter. You were about to get up to throw away your trash when you heard the door open upstairs.
Steven made his way down the stairs. "G'morning (y/n)," he said with a smile on his face. You shot him a small smile back as you turned your phone on. The time read 6:30 a.m. You didn't have to be at school until 9, so you had time to chill for a bit. You went straight to your notifications. You checked, and sure enough, there weren't any. Steven knew what you were doing, and he noticed your change in expression. He walked over to you and pulled you into a quick shoulder hug. "I'm sure he's okay. He might have just left to blow off some steam. I'll tell you what, you can stay here until we find him. Okay?"
"You sure?" you asked. You didn't want to be a burden. Steven nodded and flashed you a smile. How could a person feel bad looking at that smile? It was almost contagious. You smiled back and walked over to the stairs. "We should probably start getting ready for school. I have an extra pair of shorts in my bag, but I don't think I can wear this shirt." You pointed to your sand-ridden t-shirt.
"Oh don't worry. I have a ton of extra shirts upstairs in my closet if you wanna borrow one," Steven said.
"Okay, phew. Thanks!" You said, going up the stairs. You went to Steven's closet and picked out a shirt kind of like the one he wore yesterday, but pink instead of black. You grabbed your bag and carried it downstairs and into the bathroom so you could get ready. You put on the denim shorts you always kept in your backpack and threw on the shirt. It was a little short, so it fit you more like a crop top. You brushed your hair and pulled it up into a ponytail. You brushed your teeth, put on your socks and (f/c) tennis shoes, and walked out the bathroom. Steven looked in awe at you as he made his way downstairs, fully dressed, and ready for the day in his usual outfit.
"Wow. That shirt really suits you," he said while you walked up to the door with him. You put your backpack on and laughed at his little remark. "In fact," he started. He took his pink jacket off and put it on you. "Perfect," he said. He wasn't wrong; it really completed the outfit. You both blushed profusely before holding hands and walking out the door to school.
