The ting of a cell phone woke me from whatever trance I was incredulously lodged in. On high alert, I slowly crawled onto Jason's side of the bed, and grabbed it suspiciously scanning the metal object in fear of what news it was bound to bring. Almost in response to my dread the phone went wild buzzing and flashing; egging me on as if no longer able to withdraw anymore information. I knew in that moment that in this case ignorance was bliss, but unable to wait any longer I finally answered the mysterious caller, and hands shaking held it up to my ear praying for some good news.
Calming as it was at first being met with the crashing of waves, it ebbed away at once after hearing the faint groans and hisses in the background leading up to the distinct hoarse chilling laughter that could only belong to one person.
" Shoulda kept this one on a tighter leash darlin.
Join us, and don't take too long will you?"
The ghastly click of a gun ready to fire was the last thing I heard before the line went flat.
The infamous clown prince of crime was back, and I was too stunned in place to make a move.
