"Well, I guess we have to suffer through school once again," Biana said with a sigh as they got up from their seats. Then she turned to Tam and wrapped him in a hug. "See you later—if we have any classes together."

Tam nodded as he hugged her back before Sophie, Dex, and Biana all started walking to the Junior class atrium.

Sophie took out her schedule from her book bag and looked it over. Her locker number was fifty, and she was at least grateful that she was surrounded by her friends.

Sophie bit her lip as she looked back over her schedule. She had LIT, Calculus, Lunch, Art, Gym, Theater, and then Study Hall.

"What classes do you have?" Biana asked, skipping over and snatching Sophie's schedule out of her hand. "Hmm...we have LIT and Calculus together, you don't have any classes with Dex, you and Jensi have Theater together, and you and Maruca don't have any classes together either." She handed Sophie her schedule.

"Cool," Sophie mumbled, folding up the schedule and putting it in her pocket.

Biana titled her head at Sophie. "Is something wrong Sophie?" She asked. "I know you miss the boys, but you've been acting weird all Summer."

"I'm fine," Sophie said with a forced smile as she walked past Biana. "I'm just tired."

Well, that wasn't the only reason, but she didn't feel like telling anyone yet.

"Okay..." Biana said, following behind Sophie as the bell rang and people started going to class. "Let's head to LIT,"

"My legs are going to be sore for weeks," Maruca complained as they all left the girls locker-room and met the boys in the hallway.

Coach Axelene had told them that they'd be doing stretches and exercises that day, and Sophie had fallen on her butt tons of times.

"Same," Biana said, rubbing her forearms. "Those push-ups killed me."

"Eh," Dex said with a shrug. "It wasn't that bad,"

"Sure," Sophie said, nudging him. "You fell almost as much as I did."

Dex's face turned pink as he put his hands in his pockets. "Physical Education has never been my thing."

"We know," Their whole group said as they walked down the hallway.

"Where're you going next?" Biana asked Tam and Linh.

"Theater," They both said.

"Me too," Sophie and Jensi said with a smile.

Biana huffed. "I have History with Mr. Fintan."

Sophie and Dex shared a look before Dex said, "I'm glad I'm not you."

Biana rolled her eyes and pouted before Linh, Tam, Jensi, and Sophie all waved bye and walked down a different hallway and all the way to the Theater room.

As they walked in, the four of them went to an empty couch and sat down. Only moments later, Mr. T walked through his office door and smiled at the whole class.

"Welcome to another wonderful year in Theater," He said with a grin. "Let me take the roll and then we'll discuss your first assignment."

After roll, Mr. T handed them a sheet of paper that read: Foxfire Talent Show!

"This school doesn't require their students to participate in this," Mr. T said. "But I'm making you do it for a grade. It's an easy 100. All you have to do is to participate in the show with a decent talent."

The room buzzed with excitement, but all Sophie could do was burry her face in her hands.

What on earth would her talent be?

"Study Hall doesn't feel the same without Keefe or Fitz." Dex mumbled as he pulled out a sheet of paper and started writing algorithms on it. "It's so boring."

"Agreed," Biana muttered, tapping her pencil against the table continuously.

Sophie sighed as she took out a book and stared at the pages. She wasn't reading it, but she was thinking.

They were both right. Nothing felt the same after Keefe and Fitz had left. Of course they had to go to college because, duh, but it still made Sophie sad.

"But..." Biana said, her voice getting happier. "Like I said before: Fitz is coming next week!"

Their table exploded with conversation about the party planning, but Sophie couldn't share their enthusiasm.

Sure she was happy that Fitz was going to be back home, but Keefe was still all the way in Savannah, and he probably wouldn't be coming back until Thanksgiving or Christmas.

After a little bit more conversation about the next week, the bell rang, and people stood from their chairs and exited the classroom.

Sophie dragged her feet to her locker and grabbed her book bag before heading out the door to her car.

"You know, being upset isn't a great way to spend your first day back at school,"

Sophie looked over and saw Dex standing near his car, beside her.

Sophie sighed, a sad smile forming on her lips. "Well, you know..."

Dex walked over to her and stuffed his hands in his pockets. "You've been out of it all day. I know that you miss Keefe and Fitz, but we all hate seeing you so down in the dumps."

Sophie opened her mouth to tell him she was fine, but a voice from behind beat her to it.

"She'll be fine," Biana said as she leaned against her car—which was also right beside of Sophie's. "Sure she'll sulk for a while, but it should only last a few more days."

Dex laughed. "Yeah—you're right." He turned to Sophie. "If you need to talk, I'm only a call or text away." He waved bye before getting in his car and driving away.

"Me too," Biana said, making Sophie turn back to her. "I'm sure you'll be fine, but if you need me, I'll be here."

Sophie nodded and watched Biana drive away before she slid into her own car. Dex and Biana were right. Sure she'd be down for a little while, but she'd be back to normal soon enough.

This school year was going to be pretty rough, but she had friends there to help her.

So how bad could it really be?

Ah, I always love writing the first chapter. It really just sets the mood for the WHOLE story, doesn't it?
