"D-dad?"

========================================================================
Earlier that day...

You were exhausted. That was an understatement. You had stayed up until 1 A.M. last night, reviewing all the possible plays your opponents could use on you guys and calculating counterattacks. Evaluating the players of Johzenji also took up most of your night.

This was technically the first match where you'd officially be one of the team managers. Acknowledging your strategy skills and ideas for attacks, Coach Ukai and Sensei Takeda both agreed that having you on the bench would be profitable. Kiyoko understood and told you she was kind of relieved since being up close to the matches made her extremely nervous for the boys. Since it was your first match, you felt the pressure to contribute as much as you possibly could.

Your work proved to be helpful, for Karasuno had just defeated Johzenji. You were barely through the first half of the day, and you were already having trouble staying awake. You had to jerk yourself awake at some moments. You and the rest of the team were walking briskly through the lobby planning to go wait and watch the match to see who we would face off next. Out of the corner of your eye, you saw a figure who truly horrified you.

Your pupils dilated. Suddenly, your exhaustion left your body completely. You were absolutely alert now. Focusing your eyes on the somewhat familiar man, your heart sank to deeper depths as you realized who it was.

The glimmer of light reflecting from his glasses which sat comfortably on his chiseled face. The messy but also somewhat neat look of his hair. The sharp slice of his jaw. The weird but normal shape of his nose. The small but defined wrinkles above his bushy eyebrows. The bony-looking hand carefully secluded in the front pocket of his dark gray dress pants.

'It's him. It's gotta be him.'

Your breathing quickened into an ungodly pace. Before you knew it, you were hyperventilating. Your heart practically carving its way out of your chest, wanting to run away from this. This horrible situation. Memories flooded your mind like a tsunami. Flashes of crumpled up papers thrusted at you came to your mind. The cold, painful sting of punches, kicks, and slaps drove its way back into your thoughts. You could feel your body tremble with fear. An immense lump sat in the back of your throat. Your legs already weak, dizziness suddenly overcame the entirety of your body as you felt almost every muscle in your body give out on you.

The last words you heard...

"(F/n)!!"

...were from the person you'd least expect.
