"I need to? Why?" You cocked an eyebrow.

"To see how long the effects last, duh." He stuck his tongue out and slammed the book closed. He lifted his head and scanned the area before setting his eyes on a large boulder that rested atop a hill. It was a few miles away, give or take, but it seemed like the perfect distance to test the elixir. "I'll race you to that rock over there. Since I didn't drink the elixir we'll see how long I last compared to you."

You turned to see the boulder he was referring to and nodded. "Alright, sounds easy," you shrugged and fumbled off the ground. You brushed off some dirt that stuck to your trousers and chewed on your bottom lip. "You know that if this elixir works, you'll probably lose, right?"

"I highly doubt that. The elixir granted you endurance, not speed," he clarified with a snicker.

You rolled your eyes with a smile and got into a sprinting position. "Endurance is more important than being faster," you added with a grin. "But, we'll see. Now, on three?" You glimpsed at him as you dug your boot into the ground.

Link looked at you and boyishly grinned before copying your position. "Yes. One, two, three!" He shouted, almost immediately sprinting away. He didn't turn around to look if you were following, though he figured you were when he heard heavy footsteps behind him. The boy inhaled and kept his focus on the hill that laid far off. He wasn't feeling tired yet, but he could detect minor discomfort in his legs after a few minutes or so.

You, on the other hand, were feeling just fine. As you continued running, you felt no type of aching feeling in your lungs or chest. The endurance you were experiencing was unexplainable. You had no idea how you managed to run at the same speed without breaking a sweat, but you weren't complaining of course. Guess the elixir is working, you thought as you ran ahead of Link. You glanced at the slowing boy and you couldn't help but grin mischievously. "Look's like someone's slowing down!" You pointed out before sprinting more ahead.

"I'm not!" He shouted, picking up his pace. He attempted to dash past you, but there was an uncomfortable feeling sprouting in his lungs that caused him to let out heavy breaths. His mouth hung open as he pushed himself, though it was of no use. The energy he had was slowly withering away, causing his sprint to turn into a slow jog. "Maybe," he said between breaths, "just a little bit now." Sweat was now forming on his forehead and when he looked up to see you, you were already running way ahead.

Your heart continued pumping at an easy pace, allowing you to move without feeling worn down. Despite the hot sun that shined down on you, you remained feeling fresh and filled with vigour. Though a thin layer of sweat was beginning to appear on your temples, you felt unbothered. Pleasurable breezes began to push against your smiling face, making the whole experience more vivid.

"H-Hey! Don't leave me behind!" Link called out as he slowed down. He breathed heavily and bent over slightly as he attempted to catch his breath. His lungs were slightly in pain, but he pushed past it and resumed his running.

You didn't pay attention to him. If anything, you ran slightly faster, but that proved to be a mistake. As you used more of your energy, the endurance you had in your system gradually started to disappear. Your legs began to shake mildly since they were finally feeling a burning sensation the elixir made them ignore, which caused you to slow down. Your heart began to pound against your chest roughly, but the little endurance you had kept it in check. "Just a bit more," you told yourself.

You barely managed to run up the ridge of the small hill, but when you reached the top you threw your hands in the air and sighed out loudly. The effects of the elixir wore off by the time you sat down, but you didn't care. You rested your back against the large boulder that was dug into the ground and looked down at the tired boy that was practically dragging himself up the hill. "You good?!" You asked, but you just got a groan as a response.
