Can We Start Over?

You stopped for a second to wipe the flood of tears away that was now rolling down your face and dripping down your chin. You took a second to regulate your breathing, every sob more painful than the last.

"Axl I loved you f-for fucks sake. And I still do. And I h-hate myself for it. But no matter how much I want it, I can't let you back in just like that, not now. Mayb-"

"I understand."

The raspy voice coming from the other side of the door caught you off guard. It sounded broken, dull. Causing even more tears to escape your already red eyes.

"I understand. I'll leave you alone. Of course I want you to forgive me, but I need you to want to. I can't force you to forget everything and come back. I just want you to know that I'm sorry, and that I hope that one day maybe, we'll be able to be friends again."

You were holding a hand in front of your mouth in order to keep the uncontrollable sobs back, your eyes were burning from all the tears and your head hurt already.
It took you all your might and will to not open that damn door and let Axl in. But you still needed some time to reflect about everything.

For the next few hours you layed restless in bed. You tossed and turned, the previous conversation with Alx racing through your mind. You wanted him so badly, but you were so hurt.
Would it be wrong to forgive him? Was it really what you wanted? A life without him?
No. You needed him.
So why was it that hard to let yourself forgive him?
Were you too proud? Or were you trying to teach him a lesson?
No matter what reason layed behind your decision, after what seemed like an eternity, you came to the conclusion that it was a fucking stupid one.
To hell with your pride, you needed that redheaded idiot in your life.

You jumped off your bed and stormed to your door, you needed to speak to him, immediately. You unlocked the door and were about to sprint to your car, when you almost tripped over something laying on the floor. You looked down and to your astonishment, saw Axl sleeping there, his upper body leaned against a wall and his legs stretched across the doormat.
The tumult seemed to have woken him up, he immediately opened up his eyes and jumped to his feet.

"(Y/N)? Is everything alright!? Is something wrong!?"

You eyed him for a second. He looked tired, drained. His eyes were red and puffy, just like his nose and lips. Tiny red spots were all over his face, just like the ones on your face since you've been practically crying all morning. His hair was messy and dull, but to you, he was still the most beautiful man alive.

"Why are you still here?", you asked confused, a slight hint of concern in your voice.

He just shrugged and looked down at his feet, making you smile at the cute sight.
What you did next, took you every last drop of courage you had left in your body, but you simply couldn't wait any longer.
You grabbed his hands in order to gain his attention. As his tired eyes reached yours you felt a genuine smile spread on your lips, his face mimicking your gesture. You could feel tears well up in your eyes again, but before they had any chance to meet your cheeks, you leaped forwards and clenched your arms around his torso, burying your face in his chest.
You could feel him tense up against you, his arms float in the air for a bit, before they slowly fell to your sides. You nudged his chest slightly as a hint that he could hug you back, and after a second or two, he wrapped his arms around you, pulling you closer to his body than ever before. He lowered his lips to the top of your head, planting  gentle kisses all over you, as soft sobs left his lips. You could feel his chest vibrate against your body as he cried. He raised one hand to the back of your head, slowly patting your hair.

"I m-missed you so much.", he whispered against your hair, almost inaudible.

You clenched your eyes shut, a few tears falling off your lashes as you did so. You inhaled deeply, taking in his wonderful spicy vanilla scent, the welcoming comfort of his warmth against your body, his arms around you.

"I missed you more."

You two stayed like that for a while, the thought of being reunited felt almost like a far fantasy, a blurry dream that was now reality, but that felt so delicate and precious, it could burst any second.

You felt Axl wince against you, his breath hitching.
You looked up to him, your red eyes meeting his sparkling ones.
He took a deep breath and let a small smile slide on his plump lips.

"What changed your mind?", he asked slowly.

You shook your head a little, your eyes never leaving his.

"I haven't changed my mind, uhm ...  just ... get in you fucking idiot we have a lot to talk about."

You saw his face drop a bit as you spoke, but that little shimmer of hope never left his eyes.
You intertwined your fingers with his, looking down at your hands happily. Then you pulled him towards you, leading him into your apartment.

"You knew from the start that you were going to forgive me, didn't you?", he asked smugly, not even trying to hide the smirk on his lips as he closed the door behind him.
You rolled your eyes, having a hard time holding back the smile that was creeping its way on your lips.

"Shut up or I'll actually change my mind."

He giggled softly at your statement before leaning down on you and kissing your forehead.

"Don't you have to work today?"

"I'm taking the day off, there's a lot to talk about.", you spoke silently as you once again wrapped your arms around his neck, burying your head in the croock of his neck.

He smiled softly against you, just as you smiled against him.
How long have you two been waiting for this moment? And it was simply perfect.
And as he slowly swayed from side to side, his hands on your hips, dancing  along to the little melody he was humming against your hair, you knew... everything was going to be alright again.
