"Put your hands up, and slowly turn around," said a male voice.
I did as he said, not exactly wanting to get shot.
The man was tall, and he had brown hair that almost went down to the base of his neck. His eyes were a shade of light brown, closer to hazel.
"Who the hell are you?" He asked.
I chuckled. "I could ask you the same. Then again, I could also ask, what are you?"
He looked taken aback for a brief second. "I'm human."
I sighed, taking a couple steps for.
"You see, human. That's the exact thing something like a vamp or shifter would say," I said, before quickly swinging my leg in the air, knocking his gun out of his hands. I grabbed my own as I did so.
"Now. You first," I said.
He smiled, laughing a little.
"What?!" I practically hissed.
"Boo," said another voice behind me.
I kept my gun pointed on the man in front of me, then turned my head to the man behind me.
He was a little shorter than the other, and had dark brown hair that was spiked at a slight angle. His eyes were a very odd shade of green, a shade I had never seen before.
"Shit," I muttered under my breath.
"Drop it," said the green-eyed man.
I slowly bent down to drop my gun on the floor, but instead I swung my leg back, knocking the green-eyed man off his feet.
The taller one the came at me, grabbing the hand my gun was in and prying it out of my fingers, and I swung my free hand, punching him in the side of his jaw. He staggered backwards, dropping my gun.
As I went to grab any of the guns off the floor, the green-eyed man tackled me from behind, causing me to land on the floor with him on my back.
I rolled over and managed to get an arm out of his grasp, but before I could elbow him in the face, he let go and shoved me hard.
I went rolling across the floor, and I hit the metal support beam for the stairs with my head and shoulder.
There was a painful pop, and my shoulder suddenly felt loose.
"Fuck," I exclaimed in pain.
On top of that, I felt blood start to trickle down my head.
When I rolled over to face the two men again, and both of them had guns in their hands, aimed at me.
"I'll ask you again," said the tall one as he cocked his gun. "Who are you?!"
I sighed. "Look, if you really are human, then that means you're Hunters. And if you're Hunters, then you know what proves a human."
I used my good arm to reach for the Holy Water and silver knife I had in my jacket, but the green-eyed man stopped.
"What the hell do you think you're doing?!" He asked.
I chuckled. "Seriously? My shoulder is dislocated and I most likely have a concussion, thanks to you. You really think I'm dumb enough to try and shoot you? I'm just getting Holy Water and a silver knife.
"No thanks, you could have fake silver and plain water for all we know. We'll be using ours. Sammy, go ahead," said the green-eyed man.
The taller one, Sammy, or whatever the hell his name was, lowered his gun and slowly walked up to me, crouching down to my level.
He reached in his pocket and got out a silver knife, and I moved my good arm closer.
Even though he had absolutely no idea who I was, he was gentle when grabbed my arm, and he wasn't rough when he poked my forearm with the tip of the knife.
Blood started to ooze out of the cut, and then he grabbed his own flask of holy water, pouring it over the cut before wrapping it up with an old bandana.
"See? No steam or burns. You're looking at a 100% human. Now, y'alls turn, and then we'll get to talking.
After they both proved that they were also human, the taller one help me up, while the green-eyed one got everyone's stuff, including my bag.
They lead me into the main area, which consisted of a war room a library.
I sat down in one of the wooden chair, the green-eyed man sat on the table, and the taller one sat across from me.
"So, who the hell are you? I think its time you shared with the class," said green eyes.
"Name's Jupiter Carpenter. I'm a Hunter, obviously. I came here to get a book that had some powerful warding symbols and spells so that I could go back to the place where I got my mom's old hunting journal, which is what had directions here. Her father was in the Men of Letters."
The tall one, who I had decided to call giraffe, looked at me.
"Where did you get your mom's journal from?"
I sighed. My shoulder was still dislocated, but the bleeding from the cut on my head had slowed. Adding to the mixture of pain, the bruises from the previous fight had started to throb.
"I got it from a bank safety deposit box. My mom left me the key before she died, but when I got there, the place was gaurded with shapeshifters. Apparently, other hunters tend to store stuff there too. The shifters just couldn't figure it out because everone had their own sort of code. Also, I had planned to live here. I'm tired of shitty motels and abandoned houses."
The men looked at each other, communicating only with their eyes. Then giraffe looked back at me.
"Last question- for now, atleast- how did you get in here without the key?"
I tried to take off my jacket, but with one working arm, it was difficult. I looked up at them. "A little help?"
Green-eyes glared at me, then looked over to giraffe. "Well I'm not doing it," he said.
Giraffe got up and walked over to me, then helped me get my jacket off.
"Tha-" "What the hell?" Said green-eyes.
Both pairs of eyes were looking up and down my upper arms, which were nearly covered in tattoos.
In one way or another, they were all magic related. Some were anti-possesion symbols, others made sure nothing could track me through magic. Most I had gotten when I was young, because my mother had wanted me to be safe.
"Look, they're all magic related, and they protect me. Hell, even a couple are spells from ancient cultures. So yeah, I got in by magic. And before you ask, I'm not a witch, or a wiccan for that matter. Believe it or not, it's possible to choose human and still have the ability to do magic."
Green-eyes scoffed. "I'll be damned."
I smiled. "Alright boys. Time's up. I've told you who I am. Now tell me who you are."
