Time gradually passed as they all spoke to each other. There was a heavy storm outside. Lukey and Charlotte were arguing as per usual, with the sound of thunder and the rain, while everybody else watched and felt embarrassed for them.
It was only the second round and they are acting like mortal enemies, ready to kill each other any second. It was truly a second conflict which must be resolved quickly. Tamia stood between Chidi and Marley while they argued.
"They're pathetic." Marley muttered. "We already have enough to deal with here. Good grief."
"They're getting nowhere." Chidi said, shaking his head. "I'm not mad, I'm just disappointed."
"You think?" Tamia laughed. A black-haired dude who was staying silent for the past round tapped Tamia's shoulder. She turned to face him, greeting him with a friendly smile.
"What's going on here?" He'd ask her. "I've been taking notes in my journal this entire time. Oh! I'm Charlie by the way. Don't think I'm suspicious for being quiet."
Tamia smiled, looking at him with content eyes. "No, I would never! Everybody deserves a chance. I'm Tamia. We're trying to break up an argument over here."
"Oh God, why are they arguing?" Charlie asked.
"Because they're morons." Marley butted in.
Tamia looked at Chidi, while Marley and Charlie spoke.
"Chidi." She said.
"What is it, Tamia?" He responded.
"I know we haven't been friends for too long, but is it okay if I consider you my best friend? You've done so much for me, and I feel like you've been carrying me through this." Tamia said, carefully choosing how she worded it.
"It's fine with me, Tamia. I consider you a best friend too now that you say that." He smiled. "I won't let you down. I promise."
"And neither will I." She nodded, smiling, however, their faces dropped as the lights in the building started to flicker, and the sound of the defeaning static was projected. This silenced the entire room for a moment, even Charlotte and Luke. Charlotte seemed to be quite sensitive to this sound, and the flickering of lights now caused her great distress.
"Oh my God no!" Charlotte cried, sitting down. "No! No! No!"
"The power's going to go out!" Tamia shouted. "Be safe tonight!"
***
The power has disconnected. It was once again time for the murderer, whomever they may be, to strike. The building went dead silent, though really, they were all alone with their own fear of death. They held themselves together in silence, they tried to keep their grip on reality, and to distract themselves from the horrifying situation they are in. It was useless, they all could not keep grip on sustaining themselves, it was a difficult task for a single one of them to fulfil that night, because something about it made it feel like it was an inescapable impending terror which will haunt them for the rest of what they have left of their life. Which may be very little now. They were all hopeless souls in doubt, terribly misinformed.
Tamia held her breath, she was standing beside Chidi now. Everyone else had shuffled around. She chose to use her ability to see the truth about Lukey, however, this strong force in her mind prevented to do so. It was like a barrier against herself, or was it even coming from her? She breathed heavily, and quickly, starting to have shortness of breath. Something felt off. Disturbing images flashed through her mind. Ally's intestines and emptied eye sockets, with her eyes handing out and resting aainst her cheeks, Aphrodite's eyes, distorted faces of people she not even identify, but she recognised... it all flashed through her mind. Tamia collapsed onto the ground, landing in a sitting position. She hyperventilated and hugged her knees. She held her breath now and waited for what was impending.
A shriek could be heard nearby, almost near her. This caused her emotions to go in a whirl, she screamed into her knees, as loud as possible. However, everybody ignored her, it was like she was invisible. Maybe she is invisible. Maybe none of this was even real. Maybe this is just a psychological whirlpool which she was stuck in her thoughts. Maybe this is all real but she's over exaggerating everything. These thoughts were what Tamia wished was her reality. Her guts were tied in knots. She listened to the sounds coming from the outside. The sound of the raindrops hitting the window began to sound like someone desperately banging onto a door, trying to be let in, but it was only just her distorted and broken mind. The wind sounded like the haunting yells her fallen friends made at their time of death, it sounded like their souls calling out to her. She hugged her knees tighter. I just want it to be over. End it. I don't like this. I can't take it anymore. This is unbearable. This hurts. said the voices running through her head. With every word, she felt a bit of her sanity drain. She held herself together for the slow remains of the blackout. It felt like an eternity in her own mind. It felt like endless torture to her mental state. That's because it is.
***
She heard the low whirr of the power generator restoring, she'd rock herself and choke on her tears which were flowing constantly. She felt like she was being hunted down by her own mind and whatever else could possibly be out there to get rid of her. The power generator turned back on and she forced her eyes to stay tightly shut. Chidi looked down at her, crouching and compassionately taking one of her hands.
"You're alright, Tamia. I'm alright as well." He said to her, somehow relating to her feeling of pure terror. She'd look at him, having a frozen disturbed expression. She was broken down. Chidi frowned and helped her up. He grabbed his notepad and wrote.
I'll always be with you.
He carefully passed these words of comfort to her, and avoided dropping. Tamia wearily held the note and read it over and over. She'd look at him and nod, then looked down. She saw a flashed herself covered in blood, this caused her to tense up and panic. This was her mind playing with her. Chidi became concerned for her.
"Tamia? Come along, don't be scared. It's okay." He said to her, he pulled her along to join the rest of the group.
Lukey looked at Tamia, frowning. "You poor thing."
Charlotte looked at Lukey. "I agree."
Chidi looked around, then eyed what was by the kitchen window, he rushed over to see a disturbing sight from the recent murder. The group followed.
Before their eyes was Lara's corpse hanging from a tree off of her toes, hanging upside down and staring into the window. There were her bloody handprints on the door, multiple from what appeared to be her banging on the window for help. Tamia trembled, remembering the banging she heard during the blackout. Lara's mouth was stuck in a wide, disturbing smile, being complimented with her eyes falling out of her sockets, getting the same treatment as Ally did. Her vibrant pink hair was wet from the storm, and it was tangled and caught in the branches. Horrified, Tamia looked for something else to focus on other than Lara's grotesque corpse staring directly through the window. Alas - she found Lara's journal. She wiped her tears.
"Over here! Her journal!" Tamia called out. The group went to her.
"What does it say?" Charlie asked.
Tamia cleared her throat and read it aloud. "So this is what you have chosen. At least you got one killer away. There's some stress off of your shoulders! (Assassin)"
"So she was the assassin." Marley said. "Surprise, surprise."
"Well... good job to the murderer then." Lukey shrugged. "Don't think we should be praising them though."
"Yeah, you should think about what you say more." Charlotte said, sticking her nose up, showing her typical arrogance.
"Shut up, Charlotte." Lukey sighed. "We don't want to put up with your ego right now."
"I wouldn't word it like that." Charlie said. "We just need to focus on who the culprit is."
"Try me." Charlotte scoffed.
"Don't even try, Charlotte." Marley said, having a very disappointed ring to her low voice. "We have a task already."
Tamia shook her head. "We don't have a lot of time. We have to decide!"
Lukey began to scan the circle of the remnants. "Hmmm, maybe..."
Chidi cut him off. "It's you."
Lukey jumped. "Me?! Why would it be?"
Charlotte took Chidi's place. "You have been so argumentative! Only a true killer would do that. You have been so sensitive to the things I say because you are secretive and hiding your true identity, therefore, you are the murderer, or evil at least."
"She states a valid point." Chidi nodded.
"I can't help but agree." Tamia nodded. She'd walk up to Lukey and pat his shoulder, tearing up a bit. "It was nice to know you while we could. I'll miss you, Lukey."
He sorrowfully exhaled. "I'll miss you too Tamia. It was great meeting you. Vote for me if you want, you'll all realise the mistake you made and how you tore my hopes of living through this apart."
These words struck Tamia with guilt. She glanced back at Chidi, he nodded at her. She'd walk back to her place in the circle to place her vote with everybody else.Everyone had finished voting, they waited silently, and bowed their head in respects. Every single one of them did. They heard a door open and clacking of the same men's soles. They took Lukey, and he remained silent as they escorted him outside to only give him a painful death. Tamia held her breath. She'd flinch and grab Chidi's wrist when the sound Lukey's agonised screams echoed through the structure. They all kept their heads down and silenced themselves to pay respects. Tamia felt overwhelmed, her ears started to ring, the ringing was loud and irritating, she grit her teeth. She let go and ran to the bathroom. She shut the door and looked in the mirror, she saw herself differently than she should have. She depicted herself as a murderer. Why did she keep seeing herself like this? What was happening to her? She held onto the rims of the sink and took a few deep breaths. She'd turn on the tap to run the water, and she would wash her face. She'd lock herself in to calm herself, she sat against the door.
However it wasn't calming when she heard a knock on the door.
"Tamia?!" Chidi called out. "Tamia, are you okay?"
"Yeah, I'm fine." She said, looking down.
"Tamia, I know how you feel. You're being so brave."
"..."
She zoned out.
