"Sabine a green witch is elemental, she's herbal," her hand rests gently against Sabine's cheek. She could already feel the magic transferring between her palm and the round of her soft face. "She's powerful and needed." There was an urgency in the way she spoke. As if fighting for her to understand what did not yet need to be understood.
Sabine sighed and turned back to the grimoire, "this is so stupid! I'm never going to need to remember this."
The older woman looked at her daughter from the kitchen sink across the island, a small frown pressed onto her full lips. "In time you'll be thankful for your education," her mother answered and reached over the book, pointing at the line of text Sabine had been struggling to get a grip on, "try it again."
The mother watched her daughter as she dejectedly mumbled the lines of ancient text. Her daughter didn't understand yet, but soon she would. Her magic would soon save her life.
