Tension

"Okayyy, what happened here?" Steven asked startled as he walked over to where you and Pearl were. He crossed his arms and cocked an eyebrow.

"I, um I-I," you stuttered. He caught you really off-guard.

"AH ha Steven! We were just discussing (Y/N)'s classes in school. I wanted to know how academically advanced she was!" Pearl jumped in and saved it.

You nervously chuckled. "Ha ha, yeah." You flashed a cheesy smile, as did Pearl. Steven suspiciously nodded. 

"Well, I'm gonna go hang out upstairs.  Wanna come (Y/N)?" Steven asked.

"Y-yeah, just give me a sec," you said, wiping your forehead. 

"Okay then, love. See you in a minute," Steven said as he kissed your cheek and darted upstairs. You waited until you heard the door close and then turned around to face Pearl, more flustered than you had ever been. 

"Pearlllll! What was that? Does he think we're a-a thing? Or something?" you frantically paced around the kitchen. "I mean sure I kissed him on the cheek , but that was like just me!"

"(Y/N)! I think he might! You might have to tell him you don't remember. I mean, is this what you want?" Pearl said in an attempt to calm you down. 

"No, no. It's not that I don't-look. I just don't feel right with this and him not knowing, because if he thought it was important I-" Pearl put a hand on your shoulder. 

"Tell him. He deserves to know. Especially if you won't feel okay. He hates seeing you upset. Just break it to him gently," she reassured you. You nodded, grabbed the popcorn you were making and took a deep breath before you headed upstairs.

You slowly opened the door to Steven's room. He sat on the floor in front of his bed in front of the TV scrolling through movies. "Ah, finally!" Steven said running up to you and giving you a hug. 

"Uh, Steven," you started before Steven stopped you. 

"C'mon! Let's watch a movie! I have a bunch of good ones recorded!" he said as you awkwardly sat down on the floor, a little bit away from him. 

"T-that one looks good," you said pointing to a comedy and then playing with the hem of your shirt. Steven switched the movie on and then you two began to watch it. At most of the funny parts you did laugh, but it seemed a little forced, which Steven noticed. He looked over at you and noticed you were kind of far from him.

"Hey, why are you all the way over there? Get over here goofball," he said as he extended an arm towards you and pulled you close to him. You flinched a bit and your body stiffened. You weren't sure how to feel in this moment. You did have a crush on Steven, but the guilty feeling wouldn't leave you and you didn't feel it was the right place to tell Steven, but your gut wanted you to just get it out of the way. Steven kept his arm around you shoulder and started to play with your hair as you kept watching the movie. 

By the middle of the movie you were getting really, REALLY uncomfortable. The funny-romantic part in the movie came and right as the couple on TV began to kiss, Steven turned you head towards his with half-lidded eyes and went to kiss you but that's when you couldn't handle it anymore. "I HAVE TO GO TO THE BATHROOM!" you announced as you shot up and ran downstairs, leaving Steven confused and a bit hurt. He crawled forward and looked down the stairs, cocking an eyebrow.

You ran discreetly to the gems' door an knocked on it. Pearl came out and you pushed her in the door and went in with her. "Pearl! I can't do this! I can't find the right place to tell him! He keeps like being all lovey! I don't want to make him feel bad! What do I do!" You exclaimed as your face continued to get redder. Pearl grabbed both of your shoulders and bent down to your height.
