"Dinner is ready." The new orange head maid announced as she bowed from the door.
I glanced down at my watch and it was well past five.
Who eats dinner at five!?
"Why are we eating at five?" I asked and my mother couldn't resist a chuckle for some odd reason.
"Your brother has had a long trip. He needs rest." My father said as he walked past me. "His room is to your left and was already molded. You'll have to direct him to his room after dinner."
During the time at the table, we were all expected to be quiet and eat silently without any communication. Rhy didn't seem quite used to holding onto utensils and I had to teach him how to use a fork and a knife.
My father later explained that he was raised since birth at an orphanage. His mother used to work as a house worker there but died the moment she gave life to him and he was brutally rejected by his father at the age of four. Got admitted to the hospital from his father's furious pounding to the chest and was in a coma for eight years just. Until recently, nine months ago. He lost all his past memories so convincing him that we were his actual family and that we had lost him at an airplane station didn't take time for him to believe in it.
I knew my father wasn't going to deal with children who just won't accept new parents no matter what.
"Okay, that's your room." I said as I pointed towards the door just opposite my room. He didn't move, instead, he glanced up at me and I knew at that moment that he was excessively short for an eleven year old boy.
"It's scary." He whispered and I sighed as I took his hand and led the way into the room, flicking the switch on only to review a precious little boys room most of which was filled with books.
Of course.
I directed him towards his bed and grabbed the clothes by the bed, handing it to him.
"Wear this and sleep on this bed okay?" I asked and got up to leave only to feel him grab my shirt.
"It's scary." He said again and I stood still as I stared at him for a moment.
"Okay. I'll tuck you in then. Change up." I smiled softly and turned as he changed into his clothes. Once he was done, I felt him tag on my shirt and I wholeheartedly tucked him in.
Almost feeling the sense of responsibility.
I smiled when he was all tucked in and yet he hadn't shut his eyes at all. I got up from the bed and walked to the door.
"Goodnight Rhy." I smiled and flicked the switch off. In an instant, the glow in the dark nightlight lit up the room with a faint soft warm orange glow.
I slightly closed the door and padded across the floor to my room, finally calling it a day.
First off I take a long relaxing hot steamy shower and quickly pull on my pajamas that I had spotted hanged right in the bathroom.
Which reminds me, I needed to inform my father to avoid overworking the maid.
I know how to take care of myself.
I stepped out into the bathroom as I tied my hair into a bun only to nearly fall off my feet when I see a body on my bed, under the covers.
Who the hell is that!?
My first thought was Ash. However, as I got closer, it got me more on the edge.
I shakily reached over to the edges of the blanket and forcedly rolled it back only to gasp out when I see Rhy.
"It's scary." He said once more and I sigh with a chuckle.
"Come on. Let's go to your room." I said as I clasped my hands together.
"Can I sleep here with you?" He asked and for a moment I was a bit surprised. I honestly assumed 'it's scary' was all he could get from the trauma his father gave him.
"Why not?" I smiled forcedly, knowing too well I wasn't willing to share my bed.
I reluctantly got on the other side and sighed as I felt annoyed that I had to share my Queen sized bed.
I shut my eyes in annoyance only to flash them open when I felt him move until he was so close to me.
He looked up from under his thick lashes with a tiny smile on his face. He yawned for a moment then shut his eyes as he snuggled to my chest.
Awww.
I smiled to myself as I wrapped my arm around him, feeling as though he was an egg and would break any moment.
My very own brother I could protect.
