I blinked my eyes against the light, hearing a beep through my ears. What the fuck was happening? It was an old-fashioned clock. Not a bomb. Weird... What now? I tried to stand up, but I failed and landed on my ass again. Sucker. I blinked my eyes again and try to open them. I was sitting in the mud. I looked around, but didn't recognise any of what I saw. My ass was still sitting in the mud, which looked more like... shit. God. I was sitting in shit. Where the hell am I? I turned my head around and it looked like this road you see in Safari parks where I was. You know those really shitty roads which make it look more adventurous. Also covered with shit from animals... In which I was sitting right now... The humiliation. I should probably try to stand up again. Again I tried to stand up. I succeeded. Good. Now... Where was I and where the hell where was Robbie? Most important. I looked around again and started to walk. I suddenly felt something in my hand, so I looked down. There it was. Just in my hand. The oculus. I stopped walking and looked at it. Closely. It's round form fitted perfectly in the palm of my hand. Its silver pointers shining in the light of the sun... and small, golden layers spread over it. I softly petted it. I cleaned the dust off it and looked at it. What was it? I knew the name. Yes. It was an oculus, but what was its purpose? It looks like a clock. It's probably quite valuable. The mafia wants it. That must mean something. I look up and see a little, wooden bench standing there by the road. Perfect. I walk towards is and sit down. Just to take another look at it.
"Ems?" I suddenly hear. I look up from the oculus to see Robbie walking towards me out of the wilderness. His hair all messed up again and I smile. I stand up and walk right into his embrace. We pull away from each other and I look down at the oculus again. I walk back to the bench and turn it around in my hands. Robbie sits next to me and I look at him.
"Do you know where we are?" He shakes his head no in response.
"Though I have this vague idea of what it might be."
"What?"
"Well, I saw a carriage just a few moments ago before I saw you here... I think that thing might really be a clock. But a special one..." I look back at the oculus. What would the mafia want with this? Of course it's valuable just like I thought, but would they want with it? Especially that man in the white suite. Especially him. I look back up at Robbie.
"What should we do first?" He just looks back at me with those big green eyes. Concerned. I noticed how I got much better at reading him, though we didn't knew each other that long... but if you think about. Romeo and Juliet also knew each other just for a day or so. Now I don't want to compare a fictional love with this. Shakespeare was after all quite the dramaqueen. Dying for someone you only just met... Marrying them. Might be a little too much. Can you imagine? You think that the person in front of you (who also looks quite cute/hot) in front of the cash desk is "the one" and then you marry them and after that you die for them. Might be a little extreme. People from now would also probably think you're on drugs if you would do that. Just too much!
"I think we should find people." I nod and we stand up from the bench. "I suggest we follow this road, but we have to be careful. We are here. There might be a big chance that they are as well." I nod again and we walk.Trees. Trees. Flower. Trees. A bush. Trees. Trees and look! More trees. We have been walking for hours and still couldn't find some sign of civilisation. In what year are we anyway? This looks just boring. There is no variety at all. Annoying. Oh the countryside... How lovely. Not! Too much nature. Too much of the same. Too much trees. Man, Greenpeace should come here... Plenty of trees to hug for everyone. I sigh and put my hands in my pockets. I feel my righthand touch the oculus. It pets it and I feel a gorwing desire to look at it again. I get it out of my pocket and examine it again while we walk. Once again I touch its golden layers and the silver pointers. It cannot be harmed. No one else can keep it. Except for me. With me it will be safe. Safe and sound.
"Ems...?" Robbie asks. I keep on walking not hearing what he is saying. I cup my hands around the oculus and roll my thumbs over its surface. Across the silver and the gold. The shining pointers. The light stings in my eyes, but I have to keep looking.
"Earth to Emma? Are you listening?" Robbie asks. I do not react. All I care about is the oculus and its safety.
"Emma?"
"WHAT?!" I snap and turn to him. He looks shocked for a short second. After that he looks at the oculus. Why is he looking at it? He cannot have it! I cover it with my hands and push it as close to me as possible.
"What are you doing?"
"You can't have it. I can't let you." I walk away again, but he grabs me by my wrist. I wasn't prepared and so I was brought out of balance. The oculus falls out of my hands and lands in the dirt. A pain shoots through me as I see it land in the dirt. It beauty covered with sand, mud and shit. It has bloody shit on it! I felt furious and I look at Robbie. He did this.Robbie:
I grab her wrist and pull her back to me. She was startled and let the bloody thing fall out of her hands on the road. Right into the horseshit. Good. Her mouth drops and one second I see a flash of hurt on her face. Then she turns to me. Dark, red circles around her eyes. She looked like some kind of demon. Furious. O god... Here it comes.
"Emma?" I try.
"WHAT HAVE YOU DONE?!" She screams.
"Emma, try to lower your voice. Everyone can hear you." She laughs a dark kind of laugh and looks at me with a hard face.
"Nobody can hear us. Nobody is here. We are all alone..." with a few slow steps. Carefully put and in a way that shows her figure. I look at it for a moment. She was gorgeous. Still the same Emma from the outside. I looked back at her face. Pale and still the dark, red circles around her eyes. One more step. Gently she touches my face and whispers: "A perfect place to kill you for what you did." She pulls back and helds up her hand in the way a cat would attack with its claw. Just in time I grab her wrist, before she manages to scratch my face with her nails.
"Emma, this isn't you?"
"This is the better version of me, sweetheart," she says. Suddenly she pulls away and runs back at the oculus. She dives with her hand into the big pile of shit and runs away. Into the woods from the left side of the road. She's gone. I prepare myself. Though it will be hard to find her in there without a flashlight I will go in there, but just before I want to run someone pulls me back. I land right into the sand and look up. A boy, who looks just as old as I am bends over me.
"What are you doing if I may ask? Do you even know what is out there?" He says and points at the woods to show what he means. I stand up and get rid of the dust on my clothes.
"Who is asking?" I say and cross my arms.
"My appologies. I forgot to introduce myself. My name is Felix."
'Well, nice to meet you Felix, but I don't need your help." I turn around and try to get into those woods again. Unfortunately enough this Felix guy blocks my way.
"Will you cut it out and let me pass?"
"Sir, you will get yourself killed if you go in there. I cannot let that happen."
"Why do you care?" I ask lifting my hands a bit.
"I am sure you would do the same for me if you knew what was out there."
"Sure... Now let me pass."
"Why do you want to get into those woods so badly if I may ask?"
"None of your business."
"If you tell me I will let you pass." I sigh.
"Alright then... Someone very dear to me ran in there just a few moments ago." He looks shocked. He doesn't even know me or Emma. Why is he shocked. Weird.
"What madness drove him or her in there?"
"I don't know.... She suddenly acted weird. I have my presumptions about it, but I'm not for sure... But I have to go in there. Could you at least tell me what you know?"
"All I know is that people who go in there never come back out. They say some sort of pure darkness cloaked in a hood wanders through those woods. Only people driven by madness go in there. People who have a deathwish." I nod.
"Good enough. Thank you, Felix." I walk to the edge.
"Is she really worth it?" I turn my head and nod one more time before I go into the darkness of the forest.Heeey people, I kind of changed my direction of the story and moved more to the once upon a time side. I thought it would be fun to mix it up! I hope you guys like it and please don't forget to vote! xxx
