It was Addison's time to shine. Bucky nodded at her, telling her to go, and so she ran out, shouting to the crowd.
"We are the Mighty Shrimp! It's time to show you now! We got the stuff to light you up, it's getting hotter now. We're getting hotter now. It's getting hotter now!" She cheered, raising her arms to get the failures joining in with her cheer.
"We were made for this, there's nothing we can't do. We came to play, we're here to stay, and win the day 'cause...We were made for this, didn't come here to lose! We came to play, we're here to stay, what's left to say, when we know, nothing's gonna get in our way! No! Come on, let me hear you say, we're fired up, you're fired up, we're fired up. Nothing's gonna get in our way, come on, let me hear you say, we're fired up, you're fired up, we're fired up, fired up, fired up." She led the singing, causing the failures and the crowd to stand and sing along, dancing along to Addison's moves. Ariel exchanged a knowing look with Bucky, who had jumped into the action, making the cheering intensify.
"Welcome to the Mighty Shrimp. Wear our colours with pride." Bucky smiled down at Addison, Ariel at Bucky's side, making Addison pull the pair into a tight hug.
"Thank you! Thank you so much!" She squealed, grinning, making Ariel and Bucky do the same.
"Congrats, sis!" Ariel exclaimed, making Addison thank her and do the same, as they both got onto the team.
"Hey, cuz. Bree over there has great moves and serious pep." Addison looked over to Bree, who was sulking, making Ariel and Bucky look over at her.
"Seabrook is all about precision. Perfection. She can't hide under a wig like some people." Bucky scoffed, a look of disbelief on his face.
"Pretty please?" Addison pleaded, making Ariel lean over toward Bucky's ear.
"You know, B, she's the one I suggested. That means she's good." Ariel hissed in Bucky's ear, making sure Addison couldn't overhear. The girls backed away as Bucky beckoned Bree over.
"Bree! You have some real... Potential. You made the squad, as a stand-in." He said to her, making her excitedly clap her hands and go over to the twins, who were smiling at her.
"So, I'm on the team? I'm in! I'm on the team. I made it!" Bree squealed, making the students in the gym cheer and clap for her, the loudest being Addison and Ariel. Bucky smiled at the interaction, making a declaration to all in the gym.
"People love cheer. That's what makes me so important and I hate to see that change. Change is upon us now that zombies have entered our school. Cheer is being threatened. C-H-E-E. Are you ready to protect it? Let the cheer initiation begin!" Bucky declared, making the three exchange confused looks.
Cheer initiation started late that night. Bucky had given the girls their uniforms, a pink, white and green outfit with a shrimp on it. They'd changed into it and met Bucky and the Acey's at the border between Seabrook and Zombietown at nightfall.
Zombietown blew the girls away. Colourful houses decorated with lights? Ariel would pay her parents anything for a house like that. Bucky drove the cheer squad's van into the town, pulling up outside of a house. The trio got out of the van, Ariel and her twin looking around in awe. Bree was more scared, making sure to keep behind the girls.
"Wow. Zombietown." Addison muttered, completely in awe at the scene.
"It's amazing, isn't it?" Ariel asked the two, and they nodded, surveying their surroundings.
"Zoey! Dinner!" A man's voice shouted, making Ariel turn to the general direction of the voice, seeing a small zombie girl rush inside of her house for dinner. Ariel smiled at the small girl.
"Wow." Ariel gasped, really taking in the wonders of Zombietown. The three girls looked back at Bucky, who was ready to talk.
"Every year, for cheer initiation, we like to remind zombies that we don't accept freaks in this town. Egg that zombie house and you're both officially one of us." Bucky gave Ariel a pack of eggs, and she scoffed, shaking her head.
"Oh. What? No. We can't do that." Addison denied, Bree shaking her head from beside her.
"You look lost." A zombie woman was on the other side of the van, peering into the window. Bucky and the Acey's screamed in fear, bucky speeding off, leaving the three girls there. Addison and Bree looked at the woman with wide eyes, backing away, but Ariel stayed put, smiling at the woman, and giving her a wave. The woman halted for a second, before nodding and smiling back at Ariel. She left, leaving Ariel standing alone.
Zed came out of his house, seeing Ariel standing alone in the street, eggs in hand. He raised an eyebrow, before following the direction of her eyes, seeing Bree and Addison looking up in fear.
"Everything okay out here? Zed? Anybody there?" Zed's dad's voice rang out from inside the house, and Zed cleared his throat, thinking of a reply.
"Uh, I don't know. I think I see someone. Just give me a second." He called back, his dad quickly responding as Ariel looked at him in confusion.
"Be quick!" His dad exclaimed, making Zed turn back to Ariel.
"What are you doing here?" He snapped, looking down at the eggs.
"Cheer initiation. Bucky expects me to egg your house, but don't worry! I'm not going to. Actually, do zombies eat eggs? I wouldn't want these to go to waste." Ariel quickly replied, before holding the eggs out to Zed. He laughed quietly, shaking his head.
"No, Ariel, we don't eat eggs." Ariel shrugged, pulling one egg from the pack.
"Catch." She grinned, throwing the egg to Zed, who caught it, throwing it between his hands. "Use them as balls then. Motivation not to fail." She handed the box to the boy, who put the egg back in, placing the box on a part of his fence.
"Thanks Ariel, see you at school?" He asked, and she nodded, before looking over to Addison and Bree. "And you two?" He finished, and Addison and Bree quickly stood up, nodding, and apologising for the not-egging. Zed went back into his house, leaving the girls there.
"Are zombies always this harassed? I had no idea life was like this for them." Addison murmured, looking at the door Zed had just left through.
"Come on..." Bree whispered, leading the pair away from the house, the trio making their way to their homes.
The next morning, as Ariel and Addison were making their way to talk to their cousin, Principal Lee's voice rang through the speakers. "Cheer season is here, cheer followers! So, let's rally our cheerleaders at the pep rally today." At the mention of the pep rally, Ariel groaned. The pair were in their uniforms, one exited for the rally, and the other couldn't care less.
"Hey! Hey!" Addison yelled, getting Bucky's attention.
"Hey, what's up, you two?" Bucky grinned at the pair as they made their way over to him. Addison adjusting the strap of her bag.
"Zombies are students at Seabrook too, Bucky. Picking on them isn't right." Addison stated, making Bucky sigh and look over to where the zombies stood.
"Zombies distract people from what's really important. Like cheer, us, me." Bucky stated, only caring about himself-yet again.
"But we can't go around tormenting them." Addison defended, causing Bucky to shrug.
"It's best if you don't question things." He stated, brushing back Addison's wig, making Addison look up at him, nodding slowly.
"B, you do realise that just like zombies, Addi and I are different too?" Ariel muttered, looking up at Bucky, "You wouldn't do that to us though, so why treat them any different?" Bucky just ignored Ariel, instead focusing on the pep rally.
"Pep rally today, cuz. You're gonna rock it." He said to Addison with a smile, before turning to Ariel.
"And you, Ari, better put some effort into it and look like you're actually enjoying it." Ariel only shrugged in response, looking away from her cousin. She didn't like cheer. Everybody knows it. She only does it because she's good at it. The girls waited a few minutes after he left, before Addison led her sister to a place she did not expect.
