'Mum I'll be fine. I've got the job at St Cloves plus Aunt Moira will be there. Speaking of which I've got to go, I'll call you later I promise; and keep Travis away from the cookie jar. God knows why he doesn't have the natural aversion to ginger that we all do',

Iris had completed her program in New York and had finally moved back home; just in time to enroll Travis in day care. The two year old was becoming a handful despite his quiet disposition.

'He's his mama's boy and he's got to love what mama loves. Alright baby, do take care and don't forget to knock them silly with your brains!'

'Of course mum, bye!', she quickly ended the call and proceeded to the hospital reception to report for duty. From there she was directed to the hospital laboratory.

Her job application had come through, though she had Aunt Moira to thank for that she was glad she got it. Now all she had to do was keep the said job, pretty easy because her work hours were tolerable and she kinda enjoyed working.

Walking into the laboratory session, she was greeted by her cousin Simon. The guy though the same age as the twins loved to pester her, and she didn't complain because he was a sweetheart.

Once he noticed her he gave her a big smile and beckoned her forward; he was working clinic hours today so him being in this area was because he was either waiting for her or he was bothering his fiancée.

'Hey shorty, welcome to the Sawyer medical team. You can finally be acknowledged in the room when we lot are talking', he said cheekily.

'Thanks cousin, but I've been certified ever since I got my degree in school. Now point me in the direction of where I should sign in here and I'll be on my way',

'Tia is here to cover you on that' and just like a charm she came out of the door behind Simon.

'Hey babe, hi honey welcome. Let's get your work schedule, and babe get lost', Tia never failed to amaze Iris with her no nonsense attitude. And she felt so much better when she saw the pout Simon wore after that.

As they turned to go Simon called her back as though he forgot to say something, when Tia moved within reach he pulled her and kissed her saying, I love you.

Iris rolled her eyes at the couple; for some reason every couple she was related to had a thing for PDA. She never understood why though. Noticing that Tia was done with her fiancé, they both headed to where Tia put her through clocking in and clocking out. Then she took her to her first session for work.

Things had been moving pretty smoothly back in New York, but it was finally time to come home. She needed all the help she could get in this next phase of her life, and she definitely didn't need to be catching feelings.

That phase of her life was buried for now with little or no hope for resurrection; the last time was enough experience to last a life time.

Evan had been cordial, but like any person with eyes she could see that he wanted to take things further with her. They'd become friends easily, but she'd even admit it that she ran back home to avoid any unwanted attention.

She liked him enough as it were, she was just scared of falling again. The last fall ended with serious bruises on her heart, she'd be damned before she fell again.

'Boss you've got to get down here, there's been an accident. One of the power plants and two steam engine units just blew up! It's a mad house here; we are trying to account for everyone while the firefighters are trying to contain the fire. You need to...'

'I'm on my way Boris, contain the situation as much as you can', he cut the call and only pulled on a sweat shirt as he raced out of his house in the Hamptons. This was not the kind of news anyone wished for; not even to an enemy.

His mother's factory, now his located in Kingston just blew up. He was going to find out what or who was responsible for it. But that would be later, all he needed now was some atom of good news. He hoped he didn't lose any workers.

As soon as he arrived he was faced with his version of hell on earth; everything was ablaze emitting scotching heat.

Soon enough he located the head of the factory, Boris who looked extremely relieved to see him.

'Boss, this is bad. The fire is being contained but a lot is being destroyed as we speak. The plant house is no longer in existence and the entirely steam engine unit has been halved by the flames. We've shut down everything, even down to the power supply. Anything electricity related was powered off as soon as the explosion went off. I can't find Denver anywhere boss, I just..'

'One at a time Boris, do we have any other exits in use? Then we look there. Machines can be replaced but human lives can't be replaced; so we'll focus on containing the fire and saving as many people as possible', grabbing one of the worker as they passed by he instructed for the hospital to be called and for them to make arrangements for many to be treated here only serious cases to be moved to the hospital.

He was relieved to know that it was already done; without wasting time he headed towards the makeshift hospital unit where he saw some of his workers. Both the ones he recognized and those he didn't receiving some form of care.

Feeling like they were in safe hands, he left to go assist the firefighters. He had to do something to abate the situation.

Finally, the fire was put out with no fatalities. That in itself was a relief that he couldn't explain. Investigations commenced immediately on the cause of the fire.

After calling his father back and entertaining some calls from business associates, he really needed a moment of reprieve away from everything. This was worse than a nightmare, a horror movie in 3D.

Shortly after he got home he received a call from the fire department and he was told that the explosion that happened was long overdue; giving that the same power plant had been faulty for a while and that the steam engines were overworking because the alternate unit was malfunctioning.

He couldn't believe it.

What on earth was he paying his maintenance team for if they couldn't report a faulty engine and a faulty power plant? He just couldn't believe it.

He didn't even find it in himself to be angry; horrified was the term to define what he was feeling. What if someone had lost his life? Or if the fire had spread into the neighboring town?

Unbelievable!!

He stopped listening to the person on the other end of the call and simple asked them to send him a detailed report on their findings.

Un-freaking-believable!!!

He had nearly lost lives because someone couldn't do their job right.
