Well, Alex totally smashed the Lost Boys audition for Marko. And the rest is cinematic history. I was so excited for him when he got the call for the gig. We danced around like idiots before going out for a celebratory drink. It really was a happy accident really, he was literally just wanting to make ends meet with college and everything. And so, Alex was told he had to be in Santa Cruz for the next week, filming was gonna start up! The production team said he was going to be staying in a double room in the Holiday Inn. Alex held the phone out, so that we both listened into the call; his face, oh man, his eyes said it all, in all his mischievous glory. I wiggled my eyebrows up and down, he tried his best not to laugh. We packed our back packs and went on our way. Alex and I rode on his bike, or more affectionately known as the noblesteed, up to Santa Cruz. The warmth of California had seemed to melt away any fears or doubts.
Dude, the Lost Boys set was so fun, besides Haunted Summer and going back to Roma, which I'll get onto in chapters to come. It was there in Santa Cruz, or Carla, where Alex and I discovered and realized such a lot. That summer is full of fond memories in my heart. Alex and I danced barefoot on the Wharf and ran around on the Boardwalk in the bright dazzle of the lights. Spending reckless youth together under the stars. The heat of adrenaline made us sweat, but we didn't care, we drank coke out of the cooler (or beer sometimes. Drink responsibly kids, ha.). Some nights were chilly, so Alex being the gent he is, would drape his arm around and scooch up closer; I'd smooth my hand over his chest and nuzzle my face into his chest. I could hear his precious heart beat loud and clear against my ear. I can still hear it.
So, you remember that sax guy Alex and I went to see? You know the one, right?

Yes, that fine fellow there. 👆 Tim Cappello. It was the same Tim dude that Alex and I went to see perform in that NY club 3 years ago! Alex said as soon as we got there, "I gotta good feeling about this, my lil mushroom." We watched the film crew were setting up for the iconic scene. History was being written as we watched. Alex stood behind me and put his arms around me, kissing the side of my head softly. I held onto his arms, smiling inside and out, with a content sigh.
Well, everything was going good. I remember traipsing around Santa Cruz with Alex; the makeup and hair team were searching for inspiration for our Lost Boys looks. It really was awesome though. I met the incredible Kiefer Sutherland, the talented Brooke McCarter and the shy rookie, Billy Wirthe. Each of them had interesting characters, not to mention Jami Gertz, the coolest chick around. Alex had his arm around me, my arm snaked around his waist as the group of us walked around. Billy and Brooke were messing around in front of us, while Alex and I walked with Kiefer. "Man, I loved that movie!" I blurted out, as we discussed the movie Stand by Me. I covered my mouth, almost blushing. The fan girl in me went crazy. Alex facepalmed his face, with an amused smile. Kiefer was chuckling with a smoke hanging out of his mouth. "No, I love it too," Kiefer calmed my nerves, saying, "It's really funny, someone accidentally got Jerry O'Connell high with pot cookies." He said cooly. Alex and I laughed. "That's something you'd do!" Alex spoke to me. I nodded, sucking my teeth with a Yeah, don't go there look on my face. "Man, those boys are trouble." Kiefer added. "What else happened?" Alex asked. "Well," He took another long drag and said, "River, such a good kid, normally. Long story, short, the kid got my car plastered in mud." Alex and I covered our mouths, smothering a snort. "Yeah, you get the idea." The breeze cut past, making me shiver and pulling closer into Alex. "Gah, it's chilly." Alex said as he slightly grinded his teeth together and held me in tighter. The party of about fourteen had stopped. Someone called out, "Lunchtime everyone! Take half hour!" Alex and I whooped, I threw my little faux leather shoulder bag in the air in the excitement. That made the others laugh as Alex helped pick my few things up off the sidewalk.
