"It's official. I hate people" I groan tossing my phone on the couch beside me. Zach pulled me closer to his body and kissed the top of my head trying to get me to be less tense.
"I want to know something Adi and don't lie to me," my mother says sternly looking at me. "Who exactly was Mackenzie and why are you getting so much hate? You've never been so bombarded with those comments before" she continues taking a sip from her coffee cup.
I sat quietly for a moment not wanting to answer the question. I bring my knees up to my chest and rest my chin on top of my knees. I felt a nudge in my side making me look at Zach.
"You need to tell her before we do" I roll my eyes and huff. I take a deep breath and get ready to start talking. I'm about to come clean to everyone in the room. The other boys don't know anything, not Eben and definitely not Jon.
"Basically on January first, I think, David called me and said he had to have a meeting with just me so I went and saw the guy Mackenzie" I clear my throat a bit and shift in my seat. "David said I had to fake date Mackenzie and if I didn't he could kick me out of the band and make it to where I would never perform again blah blah blah and I wasn't allowed to tell anyone about it at all. Well, a couple of weeks into the 'relationship' he started getting... physical. And then came the um.." I stop. I can't say it. I know the people around me would lose their shit if I said rape but I have to. I felt another slight nudge in my side and a hand wipes across my cheek. I look over again and Zach wipes under my eyes again with the pads of his thumbs.
"He umm.."
"Just say it baby" Zach whispers in my ear squeezing my hand tighter.
"He raped me and he did it more than once. It happened... like... four times maybe" Jon stood up from his chair and left the room. My eyes watching his every move as he walks out the back door. I hold back a sob as I start speaking again but I keep my eyes on Jon.
"He was gonna do it again if the boys didn't walk into my room at the right time and save me from him but he was sent to jail but I guess got out because I receive messages from him like once or twice a week and I block him every time"
"My poor baby come here," mom says getting up and coming over to me. I stand up and cry into her shoulder as she rocks us back and forth.
"Does- does J-on ha-ate me?" I ask between sobs.
"Oh god no. Baby girl he could never hate you" Jonah says taking me from my mom and into his arms. I hear the back door slide open and someone talking.
"Hey, Adi come here" I look up from Jonah's shoulder and see Jon standing beside us with his arms open a bit. I let go of Jonah and Jon hugs me tightly and I do the same.
He places one of his hands on my back and the other on the lower part of my head so his hand is in between my neck and head.
"I could never and will never hate you Adalyn. You're practically my own daughter. I just got mad that I wasn't there for you, okay?" Anyone could practically hear the grown man hiding his tears in his voice. I nod my head and hold onto Jon tighter.
