I laced my old, black combat boots up. The leather was ripped off In some spots leaving it matte and grey. But they were my favorite so I kept them around.
My outfit as usual: Jeans, a tank top, and my grey flannel. I really should take my father's advice and go shopping sometime.
A honk outside is what grabbed my attention and ultimately set a smile on my face. Quickly locking the doors, I made my way into the black Toyota corolla. "You know your car is very cliche?" I giggled. Melody rolled her brown orbs playfully at me. "Yeah, whatever." As she pulled out the driveway, I plugged my phone up to aux and started playing music. "You live in a really nice neighborhood, what school are you going to?" I didn't think the neighborhood was that nice.
I guess I grew up with some privilege and never realized it until now. I've always lived in big houses and had money. But now that I live with my dad, I have those things times five.
"I haven't decided yet, but it can't be too far from home. Not that it would matter." Melody's eyebrows would furrow in confusion. "Don't worry about it, but I'll let you know whenever my dad lets me know since I know for fact I'm not gonna have a say in it either way." Confusion still visibly written across her face, the red-headed girl brushed it off.
We started driving through a really nice town that caught my eye. "And you call my town nice?" I chuckled, making her respond with a small laugh. "Okay, but this is where all the annoying rich kids live. You're one of the cool rich kids I guess." I raised my eyebrow at her words making her chuckle in response. "You guess?" I questioned.
"I still need to get to know you before I put all of my money on you." I nodded in understanding. So far, she seems pretty nice. I could get used to having her and Peep around.
Melody parked and we both got out. She grabbed my hand and dragged me inside. "Hey is this the new girl?" A girl with raven hair walked over to us immediately. There was also a blonde next to her. These girls seem pretty... Cliche to me. They give me "stuck up popular girl" vibes.
And just my luck, I was right.
"Come on, you'll be with us tonight," I didn't protest either, this is my chance to start over. Although I was already in the popular scene back in Michigan, this might be different than that. The two girls led me over to a group of girls and boys. "Guys this is the new girl." I looked around for a familiar face and my eyes landed on a certain Blonde boy. I immediately smiled when I saw him and he did the same. "You came!" Peep got up and gave me a tight, but short, hug.
His touch... was like no other. Wow. I've never felt so secure before.
"Yeah, I thought I'd get out and have some fun before summer is over. Plus, I see this as an opportunity to make some new friends." He smiled down at me before dragging me to sit down. "Well, it looks like she's already met Long beaches resident bad boy. Do yourself a favor and don't break his heart." Putting my hands up in mock surrender, the blonde girl gave me a very, very fake smile.
"So, is everyone like that around here, or is that just her?" Peep laughed at my question. "Mostly everyone in Long beach is stuck up. But then you meet some cool ones, sort of like you." He gave me a small smile, glancing at me from the corner of his eye.
"Hey Aaliyah, come dance!" Melody and I locked eyes making me laugh. I glanced at Peep and he nodded, telling me to go. So I did.
Melody took my hand and we got lost in the crowd. I decided not to drink, but I did smoke a shit ton with her and Peep and some of their friends. Even Jazz showed up.
"So what's little Michigan like?" I playfully rolled my eyes at the question. "Little? Michigan is big. But I lived in Grand Rapids." They all made surprised faces. Almost all of Grand Rapids is pretty expensive to live in. It made a lot of sense as to why they were shocked. "Well, I mean for a while I did live at my uncle's ranch in Houghton Lake because I kept getting in trouble but my mom eventually moved me into our summer home with her a couple of months before I moved here."
"So you've had quite the journey haven't you newbie?" A guy with a blue and white letterman jacket had walked over to our small smoke sesh. "Yes I have, and who might you be?" I handed the blunt to him and he gladly took it. "I'm Asher. Long beaches best wide receiver, and you?" First off, ew. I actually hate jocks with a passion. And weird, he has the same nickname as Melody's cousin.
"I'm Aaliyah, but just call me Liyah." He smiled before putting the blunt between my lips for me. "Well, Aaliyah, I guess I'll see you around."❁
"We should all get out of here," I suggested, but one of the boys placed a hand on my shoulder. "There's another party, I heard it's better than this one. We're all heading over there, You can catch a ride with some of us if you want." I shook my head. I was starting to get a headache from all of the loud music.
"Come on, I've got a place we could go,"
❁
"You wanna try?" Peep was referring to his skateboard. "I'm scared but it looks so cool when you do it." He chuckled at me, making me smile. "Come on, you can hold on to me." Getting off the skateboard, he grabbed my hand and helped me get on. He didn't even make me do anything, he just held my hands and pulled me to our next destination.
"So tell me, what's your real name?" I was curious, I have been since the day I met him at the corner store. "It's Gustav Elijah Åhr." I smiled at this. "Oh wow, we're giving full governments now are we?" I giggled. "Well, you already know mine."
"Don't you have a middle name?" He asked shocked. "Nope, my dad thought it would make my name too long. He says middle names don't mean anything because it's only your first and Last name that'll be known to the world." His head dropped for a second. "Your dad sounds really supportive," His voice was quiet, I had obviously said something wrong or reminded him of something.
"When he wants to be. He's never really around. He's not even home now."Peep would stop pulling and ushered me to get off which I complied with. We were in front of a tan-ish house. "Welcome to my humble abode. We're gonna watch the stars tonight."
