August 20, 2015"There are so many of them!"
The character aimlessly fired her gun taking down nothing.
"Oh no! I'm out of ammo! What to do? What to do? What to do?!"
She panicked but that didn't change anything. The scary creature known as zombies devoured her.
You're Dead
A girl named Sana whined in exasperation as the two words flashed on her phone screen for the tenth time.
It was the second day of summer break and the girl was already skunk by the boredom. It was a practice of their family that she had to look for their own shop when school breaks come and she can't help but to obey since her allowance came from it.
Thankfully a friend was willing to help her though she had to deal with the unforeseen attitude this friend holds.
"Minari, this game is very hard, I couldn't last a minute of playing! Arggh!" she groaned before throwing the phone aside the counter then propped her back on the chair.
"It's not that hard, you're just a loser" a girl wearing a spectacles said while scanning a book she had found on the untouched part of the shelf.
"I'll pretend I don't hear that!"
The bell chimed indicating that someone entered the place. The two stood up to greet the first ever customer they will going to have this morning.
"Hi!" a girl smiled showcasing her full annoying teeth- according to the two.
The duo went back to what they were doing, ignoring the girl who just entered the shop.
"What's with that weak reaction?"
"You don't deserve a strong one" Mina whispered.
"I heard that, but since it's you Mina, I'll pretend I didn't" the girl went to the counter and hopped to it.
"Get your ass off the counter Momo." Sana scolded the girl.
Momo ignored her and fished a lollipop in her pocket, unwrapped it and threw the wrapper somewhere.
Sana's vein popped out her forehead and smoke went out her nose. Her hands found a thick book and unconsciously hit Momo with it causing the girl to jumped off the counter.
"What the heck?!" Momo raised her voice but it was Sana's turn to ignore the girl.
Holding her aching back while cursing the younger girl underneath her breath, her gazes went to the quiet Mina at the corner reading silently.
"What are you reading?" she said snatching the book from the girl.
Bringing the Dead back to Li-
A pain emerged on her left foot making her drop the book.
"jesus! seriously what's wrong with you two?!" she said holding her foot Mina stepped on. Early in the morning and she's receiving a threat for her life from the two younger girls.
"There's nothing wrong with us, it's with you" Mina said and was about to pick the book however, Momo kicked it away from them letting it slide at the corner of the store far from them.
Mina sighed calmly and searched for the thickest book on the shelf she could use to hit the annoying racoon but stopped as the bell chimed again.
A girl with a petite small body, that the three of them assumed was a middle schooler, entered the store.
"Good morning! Welcome to Minatozaki's Book Store, feel free to roam around!" Sana greeted the customer with a cheery voice.
The girl just replied with a smile before proceeding inside.
Mina found herself watching the small girl strode her way on the multiple shelves in the corner and her eyes widened as she saw the girl stopped on her tracks infront of the book lying on the floor.
Mina swore she could see the girl smirked before picking it up.
"I want to buy that book" she whispered.
"Huh? Did you say something Minari?" Momo asked the younger one who was quiet the whole time since a customer enter the place until now. She followed Mina's gazes and panicked when she saw the book Mina was reading a while ago being purchased already.
"H-Hey!" Momo called out the petite girl who was about to go out. The girl stopped and gave them a side glance.
Momo was about to speak but Mina covered her mouth.
"Nothing... Thank you for purchasing a book" Mina said bowing.
The unknown girl let out a smile to her before going out.
Mina's cheeks flushed by the small gesture making her flustered than ever. The racoon looked at her amused for the unusual reaction she didn't know exist.
After that, customers started to come gradually as the day progress. Sana couldn't care less the fact that she had to repeat a long ass store name that happened to be her own surname, swearing to her father for naming the store with it.
Momo and Mina were kind enough to help Sana, switching place with her or assisting people around.
The day ended just the same as it was yesterday and will end just the same tomorrow and the days after, until summer break itself ends.
The two helped their friend close the well-known book store of Minatozakis though it was located at the outskirts of the town in Japan.
They bid goodbyes with each other and started walking towards different directions.
As Mina reached her home, she headed straight to her bed without bothering to take a shower or to eat dinner. Laying on her back, her hazy eyes glued to the ceiling.
Emptiness
It's been forever since the dreadful feeling builded in her heart. She tried her best to cover-up the blank spaces by doing what she likes and hanging out with her friends but at the end of the day, everytime she goes back in the place devoid of comfort that was supposed to be called home, she can't help herself but to feel the same thing.
Emptiness
The warmth that she has been longing had vanished together with her own family.
Best family. It is the ideal family you would like to have, a loving mother and a supportive father. Mina couldn't ask for more, however things go downslope in just a spur of a moment.
Mina was twelve when her mother passed away. She didn't know what to do that time. She was lost. She felt like the world grew a little colder and the only thing that kept her warm were the arms of her father firmly wrapped around her.
"It's okay, father is still here, I will protect you and take care of you"
Her father whispered it to her daughter, trying to convince his own self that they would be fine. Mina believed it.
As the days goes by, they helped each other to cope with the loss of an important family member and things are getting better or it's just what Mina thought.
One day, she woke up with a letter from her dad on the desk telling her that he can't do his responsibility anymore so he had to go.
Her father ran away.
She thought it was some joke and waited for him day by day, month after month, every year yet, no father came home.
Emptiness.
She whipped her head towards her desk where a small picture frame of her mother looking at her lovingly was placed.
Her lips curved into a smile.
"I'm home"
