Your mother pushed you out of the way and the creature got to her, devouring her slowly as you watched, standing helpless. You were around six at the time, something a child of that age, or any age for that matter should ever have to witness. It was about to get to you too until a bright light was cast into your home by a man who remained unknown to you and killed the creature. You had fainted from the sudden events only to wake up in your grandmother's house, the person who had been taking care of you ever since. This was a memory you had forced yourself to forget, something you had pushed into the back of your mind, and it was now finally being released as if you were experiencing it all over again.
The class watched in shock, still waiting for you to defeat it, but you just continued to stand still, completely fazed as it got closer and closer to you. Professor Merrythought watched wondering if she should intervene. However she was cut out of her thoughts when Tom swept to the front of the class, his robes swaying dramatically, and pulled your body close to his as he yelled "Riddikulus!" and cast the spell on the boggart in front of you both putting it back into the closet.
The class was still deadly silent and you were still frozen, Tom's grip still tightly on your robes across your waist. You didn't know why, but you couldn't think, it was asif your brain just stopped functioning.
"Well... class. I think that's enough for today, you've all done very well. You can leave early, Mr. Riddle please will you escort miss L/N out as you leave. Dismissed." Merrythought finally managed to blurt out. The class began to slowly disperse out the classroom, whispers and faint mumbles about you were the only sound in the room and Tom began to slowly lead you out the class bringing you into a corridor off to the side away from other people.
"L/N." You didn't answer.
"L/N!" He said louder, snapping you out of your thoughts and you looked up to him, you were surprisingly taken back by the genuine look of concern he was giving you, a look that Tom had never worn in front of you.
"What was that back there, why didn't you do anything?" You looked away again trying your hardest not to break down in front of him. You had always been a strong person both physically and mentaly, but this was something that set off a trigger inside you, and you didn't know how to act.
Tom used his finger to lift your chin to look up at him, making eye contact. He brushed away the single tear from your cheek and asked the same question again.
"When I was younger, me and my mother had woken up to the sound of screams. It turned out our village was being attacked by dark forces. We left the room and entered my fathers only to find him being devoured but that creature, it then turned around and did the same to my mother, consuming her infront of me. There was a man... he cast some sort of spell which I'm now assuming was a patronus and saved me, killing the creature. I'm fairly certain I fainted after that because I woke up in my grandmother's house who's been taking care of me ever since. I had forgotten that happened, I never thought about it again. But that must have triggered it and I froze. I'm sorry." You managed to explain after a moment of silence.
Tom stood there for a while thinking things over.
"It sounds to me like the man put some form of memory charm on you to make you temporarily forget the events that happened. If it's any consolation, I'm sorry to hear about that."
"Tom."
"Yes?"
"Why the sudden change in attitude towards me? First you loathe me, wanting me to stay as far away from you as possible. But now you're being nice, like we're friends, I don't mean to pry, but you constantly confuse me. One day you'll be one person and the next day, another. I can never figure you out." Tom backed away slightly, he looked as if he were in thought. He began to speak, but was immediately cut off by Jack and his duo of Gryffindors, Dan and Alex.
