materiality // suna rintaro x reader

Inarizaki's volleyball club is playing at the Nationals today. Y/n accompany Suna to school, at 4.45 a.m.

"Ugh, why did I even agree to wake up early?", Suna said. His eyes are not even open. He yawned a few times while putting his stuff in the van's trunk.

"You know, I should be the one saying that". Y/n couldn't even sleep yesterday. She was too scared that she wouldn't wake Suna up, so she pulled an all-nighter.

"Thank *yawn* you, y/n. You're a lifesaver", Suna hugged y/n loosely. He doesn't have the energy to do it tightly, he's just thinking of sleeping in the van and waking up when they arrived there.

"Are you sure you don't want to follow us? There's space".

"Oi, dummy. If there was another girl, I would. But I'm the only one here, aren't I?".

"So? *yawn* ".

Y/n facepalmed herself and sighed. This dude is a literal idiot when he just wakes up. "You know what? I don't even wanna say anything".

Y/n waved after Suna got in the van safely. He waved back before plunging his head into the pillow he brought from home.

After school, y/n planned on seeing Inarizaki's game. Right before she passed the school gate, her phone buzzes.

"Yes, Mom?".

"Come back home right now, I have a surprise for you!".

"Oh no, I really have something important to do".

"Y/n l/n, you better get home right now and enjoy the time I spend with you".

Y/n sighed. She said okay and hung up the phone. It's alright, she can still go see it tomorrow, right?

As she got home, y/m/n stands in front of her. She was hiding something in her hand, covering it on her back.

"What is it?".

"Look!", y/m/n shoves two train tickets in her face. "How do you like the sound of a short getaway to Mie?".

Y/n scratches her head. "Oh man, and we're gonna stay there for three days? I'm going to miss out on all of Suna's tournaments by then", she thought to herself.

"What about school?", Y/n raised an eyebrow.

"Oh, it's alright. You need a break after I pushed you that hard".

Ah, if only she had said that on exams.

"Alright, Mom. I'll go with you".

...

They spent time together in Mie. They went to the aquarium, to a theme park, to anywhere they could get their hands on.

Y/n couldn't help but wonder what happens at suna's tournament right now? She's been trying to call and messaged him for a thousand time, but it doesn't go through.

On the last night there, y/n and her mother spent it on a luxurious hotel.

"Y/n". y/m/n asked  her to sit down on the queen bed, next to her.

"What is it, Mother?".

"Listen to me very carefully. I can't say this twice".

Y/n nods. An uneasy feeling came to her.

"You only have a week left, use it carefully".

Y/n raised an eyebrow. Where did that come from?

"Now, go to bed".

What the? So she's going to have to wonder all of this until the end of the week. Wait, if today's wednesday, then there's only two days left? What the- Or is it starting next week?

Y/n couldn't sleep that night. She tossed and turned, but nothing seems to make up for her clouded thoughts, filled with questions about what her mother said a few minutes ago. 

Wait, minutes? Y/n slowly takes her phone and unlocks it. 5.26 a.m. It's already been a few hours, and they leave at 8 a.m. It's alright, I'll just sleep on the train later.

Yep, nope. It's been an hour on the train, and her eyes are wide awake. But, her mind is not. What the hell is going on?

The next day at school, the mood felt different.

Usually, there would be laughter echoing through the hallway. But it's silent, completely silent. Y/n sat on her chair as usual, and looked around. Weird, everybody is sitting on their chairs placement, and no one made an eye contact with her.

She walked towards Suna. "Suna?".

Silence. Suna turns his head away, facing the opposite direction of y/n.

" What the hell? Why are y'all ghosting me? Is this a prank show or some shit?".

Silence.

"Suna, now, not you too".

"Oh, just shut up, will you?!". Ayano lashes out.

Y/n widens her eyes. Is she trying to pick a fight? Because I've prepared scripts for this shit, alright.

"After you came here, everything went horrible. You're the reason our system messed up!".

"Wha- What do you mean?".

Hitori gets closer to Ayano, trying to calm her down. "Ayano, you can't tell that much. That's enough".

"Oh no, Hitori. She's going to disappear soon, so let's just let her know the truth, alright?".

Hitori quickly looks at Ayumi, she nods and dashed out of the classroom.

"What truth?". Y/n frowned.
