"But we've looked everywhere," Biana whined. "And it's lunchtime. So why don't we take a break and get something to eat, and then go back to searching."
Sophie thought about that for a second. She was pretty hungry, and a cherry slushy didn't sound so bad right now.
"Fine," She said. "But no detours on the way,"
"Yes ma'am!" Dex and Biana said before the three of them headed off to the slushie shop.
"So, if finding a job at the mall doesn't work," Biana said slowly as they stood in line. "Then where do we go next?"
"I guess we can see if the museum has anything," Dex suggested.
Biana grimaced. "I'd rather be a mall-elf than work at a museum. I want something exciting and fun; you know?"
They stepped up to the counter and ordered three Cherry slushies, paid three dollars, and then went on their way to find the Food Court.
"What about the bookstore?" Sophie said, taking a sip of her slushie.
"Boring," Biana sang.
"The movie-theater?"
"Disgusting,"
"Pet-sitter?"
"I'm allergic to dogs,"
"Baby-sitter?"
"I'm allergic to kids,"
"Tutor?"
"You need a brain to do that," Biana sighed. "Sorry if I'm being picky, but none of these scream: Biana Vacker."
"Biana," Dex said. "We're getting jobs so we can pay for our cars and go to college, therefore, the job doesn't have to be perfect. It just has to be well-paying."
"He's right," Sophie said. "But, how about we talk about this later? I'll get the food, and you guys take a seat."
Biana and Dex nodded and walked over to one of the tables—and they kind of looked like they were arguing, but Sophie didn't really pay attention.
She walked up to the counter and ordered them a Greek Salad, two slices of cheese pizza, and a hotdog. Then, after waiting a few minutes, their food was ready, and Sophie brought it over to their table.
"Okay," She said, setting out the food. "Dex, I got you pizza, and I got Biana a salad," Then she started to fix-up her hotdog. "And I got myself a hotdog,"
"Ew," Biana and Dex said before they all started eating and talking about funny things together.
In the middle of talking about the weather, Biana's phone started to ring.
"Hold on a second," She told them before answering the call. "Hello? Yes Tammy, I'm still looking for a job."
Sophie and Dex snickered at the nickname.
"No, we're taking a lunchbreak," Biana continued. "Well, why can't you get Linh to help you? Oh, well then, I guess I'll be over in a second. Bye!" She hung up and smiled.
"What was that about?" Sophie asked at the same time Dex said, "You call him Tammy?!"
Biana rolled her eyes at Dex before saying, "He needs help with studying or something, so he asked me because Linh is at the pet-shop."
"Doesn't she work there?" Sophie asked.
Biana nodded, and that's when Sophie and Dex shared a look.
"Well, I hope you and Tammy have fun studying," Dex said. "But Sophie and I have some business to attend to,"
Biana shrugged, telling them bye, before leaving.
"We could talk to Linh about getting a job at the pet-shop," Sophie said, almost squealing. "It's perfect! We both love pets, and Linh works there,"
Dex grinned. "This is the best day ever!"
§§§
"What do you mean there aren't any jobs open?" Dex asked when they'd talked to Linh at the pet-store.
Linh bit her lip. "We had a ton of people apply last week, so now we're all full,"
Sophie and Dex sighed.
"Well, that sucks," Dex said.
"I'm really sorry," Linh said. "But I hope you two have better luck somewhere else,"
"Thanks Linh," Sophie said. "We'll see you tomorrow,"
Linh smiled and said bye before Dex and Sophie left the store, feeling dejected.
"I think we've done enough searching for today," Sophie said as they walked through the parking lot. "Maybe we can find something tomorrow,"
"Yeah," Dex agreed. "I hope so,"
