"Haar'chak!" The captain loudly exclaimed as he pounded his fist on the bed.
"I'm sorry sir..." the poor nurse started to say, but she gave up once she realized he didn't need to hear an excuse. "You just need to rest for a while." She said to him.
"How can I rest when my men are out on the field risking their lives?!" He yelled to no one in particular.
"There's nothing more we can do. I'm sorry, Captain." The nurse said. She walked out, nodding to you on her way. You had been standing in the doorway to the medbay, arms crossed.
Captain Rex had gotten badly injured during this battle in the outer rim. He had a broken arm and leg, and numerous cases of internal damage. The battle was mostly on-world now, but the space battle had rendered the republic cruiser out of commission to reach hyperspace.
So many clones had gotten badly injured, so everyone was running low on supplies- and that included bacta. What would have been a shorter recovery for the captain is much longer than he would like to admit.
This battle was long and hard- much more than the Jedi and the clones could deal with- so they hired a few bounty hunters to help- which included you. However, a few rotations ago you had also been injured with a broken leg, so you'd been in the cruiser for a little while. You got injured when everyone still had bacta, so you were almost healed at this point.
Serving with the Jedi generals and their clones had given you some notoriety among them. Your valiant leadership on the battlefield earned you the respect of many of the clones, specifically Captain Rex.
When you heard he was badly injured when he was rushed into the cruiser from a LAAT, your heart had pounded like never before. You didn't quite understand why you were so overwhelmed by the possibility that he wouldn't recover, but it calmed you down immensely to see that he was patched up now, albeit extremely angry about it.
Captain Rex lay on the bed of the medbay, one fist still clenching the sheets beside his body and one hand covering his eyes from the artificial lights of the ceiling he's forced to stare at.
You limped toward him, lowering yourself down to the chair beside the bed.
He opened his fingers to let one eye peek out at you, and then he sighed. "Hi." He said, unenthusiastically.
"Well, hello captain." You said, beaming as if to make up for his lack of welcome. "I won't even bother asking how you're doing since it's pretty... obvious."
He flashed an unenthused look at you.
You exaggerated a sigh. "Guess I'll be off, then." You started to struggle with your crutches in order to get up from the chair.
"Wait." The captain muttered before you could get up. "You don't have to go..." his voice trailed off. He seemed embarrassed to be asking you to stay.
The two of you were alone in the room- he was one of the lucky ones. The clones without his status were all lined up anywhere they could be- the hallways, the hangars, the barracks. They at least had the company of others. You suspected Rex didn't want to be alone.
"Ok." You said.
The two of you sat in comfortable silence for what felt like hours. You remembered General Skywalker telling you not to focus on your pain when you were rushed from the battlefield, but there's nothing else to focus on! These Jedi are living in their own la la land.
