Adding Insult to Injury

"Doing well!" You said, stomping your foot on the ground a bit to show off. "I'm pretty much healed up at this point."

"That's good." He said. But he looked a bit concerned.

"Rex is doing ok too." You said. "They were working with him when I left the medbay."

"Yeah, I'm not too worried about his physical injuries. Force knows my captain's been through much worse." He chuckled a bit, raising his arm to nervously itch the back of his neck.

"I know what you mean. He was really torn up about having to leave the battlefield. I had no idea how much he valued being on the front with all the men." You said.

"That's just how Rex is." The General said. "He's my most trusted ally... and friend. You said the doctors were working with him right now?"

"Yeah, but by the time you get back there they'll probably be done. If I were you I'd head over." You said. "And congrats on the victory, by the way."

"Well, we couldn't have done it without you, (Y/N). At least in the beginning. You really kept the boys' morale high, and that definitely carried through even after you had to leave. Thanks for the work you did."

"Ah, no biggie." You said, waving your hand at the flattery. "I'm still getting paid though, right?" You said, semi-joking.

He just saluted and flashed you a smirk. Then he headed off to the medbay.

You caught up with a few more of the clones that you had fought alongside, happy to see that they made it back in one piece. It's incredible that so many lives were saved.

Hopefully enough time had passed now that you could go see Rex... maybe alone? General Skywalker was probably done talking with him by now. You started walking to the medbay, passing troopers and congratulating them on their victory on the way.

When you arrived, Skywalker was just making his way out of the room Rex was in.

He looked at you as if he was expecting some kind of confession, but you didn't know what you were supposed to confess. You had almost passed him in the hall, but he brought his hand to your shoulder to stop you.

"(Y/N), I don't know what you did to worm yourself into my captain's head, but if one of you doesn't make a move soon I think I'm gonna explode."

Then he patted your shoulder and walked away before you could even get a word out.

Since your face was bright red, you took a few seconds to calm yourself before entering the room.

The captain looked a lot better since the last time you saw him, physically and mentally-from what you could tell. His eyes immediately shifted to you when you walked in the door, and he straightened up how he was sitting. He was sitting up now in the bed, which was good. There weren't any nurses or other people in the room either.

Just the two of you.

"How are you feeling, Rex?" You said, making your way to the chair next to him.

"Much better. You?" He said as he noticed your cast was gone.

"Still limping a little bit, but it barely hurts anymore." You said.

"General Skywalker told me all the good news."

"Darn him. I wanted to be the one to tell you." You said. You noticed your cheeks becoming warm. He must have noticed, because you could see a slight twinge of blush on his face as well.

He cleared his throat before speaking. "Uhh, yeah, so I do feel a little bit better now. Thanks for staying with me and talking to me last night..." he said, trailing off at the end.

"Rex, do you have feelings for me?" You said after a bit of silence, not wanting to dodge the conversation anymore. Skywalker's comment to you was eating away at you.

"Wha- uh... who..." Obviously flustered, Rex started rambling any words he could think of- anything but actually answering the question.

"I saw the General in the hallway, and he told me that one of us has to make a move or he'll go crazy."

Rex raised one hand to cover his face and mumbled something.

"What was that?"

"Nothing..." He said. Probably cursing his superior under his breath.

You leaned towards him and lifted his hand off his face, giving you full access to his lips, which were just begging for attention. You placed a soft kiss on his lips.

You moved away from him and he looked shocked but also like he wanted more.

"That was..." he started saying. "That was pretty great." He said, chuckling. "That's not what I expected after all this, but boy am I glad that's what I got."

You laughed. "There's more where that came from. But... maybe when you're all better." You said, gesturing to his whole situation.

It was at that moment that you heard some of the clones approaching the door, probably Fives, Jesse, Kix, Hardcase... the whole shabang.

You stood up and limped to the door, stealing one last look at Rex's lovestruck face before opening the door to chaos. Fives and Hardcase barreled into the room and yelled greetings and woes to the captain. You decided for the sake of your eardrums, it was time to get out of there.

You could wait a bit longer to tell Skywalker- it might be amusing to see him suffer a bit. The Jedi were a truly strange bunch.
