Train ambush

Summer...

I was standing on top of a dusty hill, leaning against the makeshift motorbike that we have been working on for months. I was waiting up here as it was the best place where I could spot the arriving train. 'Cause I seriously need to catch it.

It was supposed to be here ten minutes ago. So either a super modern institution like WICKED doesn't have their clock synched or we shucked up and we arrived here late. Either answer should be considered sad because that is just a complete fail. Getting bored of waiting here in the sun I reached for the transmitter that I had on my motorbike.

"Does anyone know when this bloody train is supposed to come?" I asked into the walkie. Obviously not bothering to cover up my annoyance. It is baking hot here and I am standing on the cliff, right on the shining sun with a leather jacket on...I will be flamin' hot or over baked after this is over.

"Just stay in your position and wait! Brenda will give you a signal." Thomas shouted. It was clearly heard he and Vince were moving quite fast. Surely zooming through the sandy hills to catch up with the train.

My eyes were fixed down on the old railroad. I doubt it was ever used before. The train WICKED is going to rush through will surely be the first one in over more than 10 years I bet. If not more. The burning sun shining on top of my head was making me slightly sleepy. Allowing my eyes to close for just a second I leaned more against the motorcycle for support.

It wasn't too long of me just resting, definitely not choosing the right time, when the cracking from the walkie-talkie was heard. My body shot up at the sound of Brenda's voice, yelling into the thing.

"Summer, come in. We are after the train. It will be by you in a few seconds." At her words, I looked to the right, from where the train should be coming only to see it rushing through the rails at an alarming speed.

"Shit," I muttered, throwing a helmet on my head, Newt's safety orders, and mounting the motorbike in incredible velocity. Catching on the handlebars I got on my way down the cliff. You know the feeling when you have never sat on a vehicle like this one before and yet here you are going neck-breaking speed down the steep hill, full of rocks and sand that are getting in your way? No? I guess I am the only one then.

But it is amazing. Speeding down the hill, of course, my hands are shaky and the whole motorcycle is jumping up on rocks like crazy making me think I will just fall flat on the ground at any moment. But the feeling is so freeing. If my hair wouldn't be in a ponytail and I hadn't covered them with the helmet they would be flowing in the air behind me.

The noise coming from the train got louder and louder as I neared it. I was now speeding side by side with one of the wagons. Not the most appealing looking, considering this is a million-dollar organization they could have provided them with better equipment...just saying. I gripped tighter on the handle twisting it forward, urging the vehicle to go faster.

I was almost at the front when a roaring sound of a motor was heard behind me. I glanced back even if I knew who it was. Brenda and Jorge got my back now. I smirked to myself going even faster so I was now driving in front of the train.

I was waiting for Brenda to bring our plan to reality, maintaining my distance from the train. I looked back again, seeing Brenda following the plan. She stood up in her seat, her upper body peeking through the roof of the car. The gun in her head at the ready. I nodded at her signaling that she can start. I reached for the strap that was keeping the helmet on my head and tugged on it, loosening it enough to take it off my head unfortunately along with my hairband.

I held the helmet in my hand and turned slightly, throwing it at the window of the train at the same time as Brenda started shooting, successfully breaking two windows. The dumbasses should be calling for the backup of the berg soon.
