Mia's POV
***
My alarm rings loudly from my phone and awakens me from my deep slumber. I groan and feel my eyelids retract, allowing the early morning sun to seep into my green eyes.
I roll over and grab my phone, letting the charger fall to the floor like a dead snake. The time reads eight am and I let out a huff of annoyance. Today, Josh and Freya are dragging me to a few schools they looked at online.
Knock knock
"Come in," I yawn, sitting up and rubbing my eyes.
I hear my door open and see Josh stick his head in. He looks washed and dressed already and I resist the urge to roll my eyes. He is such a morning person. It's weird.
"You up?" Josh asks with a smile. "We have to leave in an hour"
I nod in response.
"It's raining all day today, so make sure to dress warm"
Josh leaves and shuts the door behind him. I toy with the idea of laying back down and getting more sleep, but get up and get dressed instead.
I brush my teeth and choose an outfit that will cover the scars on my arms. I'm pretty nervous about today. I haven't been to school in months. Back at the orphanage, I went to a school where I was bullied day in and day out for being quiet and reserved. I started cutting myself when the kids would mention my parents and living situation. The bullying got so bad and the school did nothing about it, so I refused to go. Poor Tim and Joan couldn't drag me back there themselves so the only option they had was to let me stay home.

I make my way to the kitchen and smile when Freya gives me a hug and kiss good morning. She hands me a bowl of chopped strawberries and another with porridge. The porridge smells amazing and the sprinkling of brown sugar on top with syrup dribbled over the top puts me in a better mood.
I sit at the table and start eating as Freya and Josh talk about the location of the first school we're visiting.
As they speak, I feel my stomach knot up with anxiety. I let my spoon sink into the gluggy porridge and grab my phone to distract my mind.
"Mia, eat a little more," Freya says, taking my phone and placing it facedown on the table. "It's a long day ahead of us and you'll need the energy"

The time comes for us to leave and I shakily get up from the table. My mind fills with negative thoughts as Freya, Josh and I take the lift down.
