I stared at him, dumbfounded. I knew something flawlessly stupid would happen, but this is absolutely beyond reason.
"Have you got eels for brains?" I snarl. "Befriending that thing? And what did you expect would happen?"
"I don't— I don't know! He was just... kind and gentle," he muttered.
I shook my head in disbelief.
"Kind and gentle? And that was enough for you to trust that thing?"
"That thing, is a he," he growled.
"Who cares? With you befriending him he'll be back so much more, and we won't be able to get away like that." I jumped down from the branch and walked past Toothless and over to the pond. If there was one thing good about this whole being trapped scenario, is that I had plenty of food and didn't have to worry about being eaten by her.
He grumbled under his breath, but didn't reply as he joined me in catching dinner.
I ended up being right.
The Scaleless came back the next day with a huge lump on his furry back, and another brown thing in his hand.
He whined out something through his mouth, which caught Toothless' attention, and received a growl of frustration and threat from me. Toothless stood up, shook himself from his sleep and wandered over.
"What are you doing?" I hissed.
"I think he got food," he replied.
"Food?" I jumped down from my branch at the mention of food.
Judge me all you want, but the fish in the pond are scrawny and few. I stepped to the side of Toothless who was already digging into the pile, but I stopped him.
"What now?" he growled.
"I smell something," I snarked. Sniffing for a little longer, I identified the smell. "Eel!" And proceeded to leap away from the poison-like food.
Toothless snarled too and pulled his head back.
The Scaleless must've understood our reaction, because he stepped over to the pile and pulled out a black and yellow striped, lifeless eel. He dangled it in the air for us to see.
Toothless reared.
"Get that thing away from me!" he snarled.
I had a little more... violent reaction.
Instead of waiting around for the Scaleless to get the message and throw it away, I shot at it and knocked it out of his paw. Which I almost burnt off and felt bad for not doing so.
The Scaleless yelped and whined something under his breath.
"I don't care if I burnt your paw of not, you wanted to poison us!" I accused him with a snarl. Still hungry, I made sure there was no more eels in the pile and pulled half of it away from there to eat in peace.
Toothless looked after me with round pupils and a tilted head.
"I am not eating in the company of a Scaleless."
"Suit yourself," he answered and leaned down, putting his head into the lump to eat the fish he could reach.
"He doesn't even use his brains," I thought to myself with an eyeroll. "Putting his head into one of their contraption... Who knows what his true intentions are?"
I ate under my branch, my concentration divided between eating and watching what the Scaleless was doing.
He left Toothless alone to eat in peace for the most part. The brown thing in his hands didn't seem harmful, but not harmless either. He walked towards Toothless' tail and sat down next to it.
"Don't even try anything," I growled the warning.
The Scaleless got scared but nodded.
Toothless was too lost in eating to notice anything going on around him.
"It's a wonder he survived this long," I scoffed and went back to eating.
It was peaceful for a little while. And I wanted that little while to last a little longer.
When I was done eating, I noticed that Toothless rose with the brown lump still on his head, but it soon fell off.
I just raised an eyebrow at that, but he didn't do anything. He moved his tail, and then his raised wings fell to the ground beside him. His muzzle fell open.
"What? What did that Scaleless do? Do I have to fry him? Please tell me I get to fry him," I pleaded as I got to my feet as I started towards the two.
Without acknowledging my question and request, and a blank look coating his eyes, Toothless raised his wings wide open.
"Toothless, what are you doing?" I asked and picked up my pace a little.
He pushed his chest towards the ground and bent his front paws.
"Toothless knock some sense into your head, you can't fly!" I roared after him as he took off, the Scaleless clutching his tail for dear life. "Oh for the love of..."
I shot up vertically and sped after them. The connected fins helped me rise and pick up speed quicker so I was by Toothless' side in an instant.
"Look, I'm flying! I'm flying again!" he rejoiced.
"Yeah I can see that." I rolled my eyes at his obvious statement. "But you're also flying with—"
He turned around and flew back towards the island, then to the cove he took.
"AT LEAST DON'T FLY TOWARDS THEIR SALADIN, EEL-BRAIN!" I roared after him.
Slowing down, I tried to knock the Scaleless off of his tail, but before I could do so, he flew upwards, turned downwards and began to dive.
"Stop, you absolute fool!"
He didn't consider my words yet again.
He flew over the water of the cove. Taking the opportunity, I flew above him and whacked his head.
"Hey!"
"The Scaleless is on your tail, don't you feel it?!"
Then came the whining sound of the Scaleless.
Toothless' eyes widened and he looked at his tail from beneath his body. With a sharp turn and a quick fling, the Scaleless was off him and bouncing on the surface of the water.
"Come on, let's get out of here!"
Toothless smiled the weird smile the Scaleless taught him, and he began to fly after me. Only problem, he one again couldn't control his movements correctly.
"What's going on? You could fly perfectly seconds ago. I knew that Scaleless did something eely," I growled.
"I don't know—"
And he plummeted into the water with such a splash that his previously scorched land became damp with water. He broke the surface and looked at the Scaleless with an annoyed look. The Scaleless just resurfaced and submerged into the water repeatedly.
"I am surrounded by brainless fools."
