"why."

you looked up at ethan with hurt, flaming, embarrassed eyes. he looked down at you with nothing but sadness.

"ethan, listen, i-" you tried to start to explain.

ethan shook his head. "i don't wanna hear your bullshit excuses, (y/n). you promised you wouldn't hurt me. we've only been dating a DAY! why? why?" he shouted at the both of you, tears streaming down his face.

you felt horrible. mark got up. "hey. listen, man. i kissed them and they- they didn't kiss back."

"you expect me to believe that too? (y/n) looked more in love with you than they ever did with me. i just.. cannot.. just leave me alone. find a different ride, (y/n)."

ethan turned around, and walked off. you yelled, "wait!", but he didn't turn around.

ethan got into his car and slammed into the door. you put your face into your hands, shaking and sobbing.

mark reached a hand around your shoulder.

"don't... touch me..." you mumbled, muffled by your tears and your hands. "you got me... into this mess... you fucking asshole..."

mark sighed and took his hand off your shoulder. it suddenly occurred to you that you had no where to go but with mark. for gods sake, you didn't even have your car with you; (bsf/n) had driven home by herself, in the car that both of you drove to LA in.

you had nothing. ethan was your support system for that week.

you reached down on the bridge. that was the one thing you still had. your phone.

there was a notification there.

you went into your messages with him. you texted him;

me: ethan.. i am so sorry. ! message not    
                                                          delivered.      
                                                   receiver blocked
                                                              you

"FUCK."

you looked over at mark. he was still there. you mumbled something you never thought you would say. with a shaky breath, you whispered,

"can i stay at your house. just for the night. please. i won't make it awkward."

mark nodded. he too looked sad and teary eyed.

you got up. he placed his hand on your shoulder again, for comfort. this time, you didn't shrug it off.

mark and you went to the car. you sat in the back.

it was a painful silence to be in the car. as you thought about the fact that your whole world just crumbled, you looked out the window. you were going slow enough that you could see most things, i'll be it with a little bit of blur.

you saw a man with almost the exact outfit that ethan was wearing sitting on the edge of the road. the road lead down to a huge cliff that could easily kill.

he looked at though he was contemplating something.

"mark. mark. MARK!" you yelled as you realized what was happening. "stop the fucking car!"
"why-" he asked. you leaned over and pressed his leg so the brake was pressed down.

you got out the car before it even stopped moving.

"ethan. i'm serious. i didn't kiss him back."

ethan turned around. he gave you a weary smile. "listen, (y/n), just don't lie to me. you and mark can live happily forever after. i'll be fine. i won't be able to witness it."

"no, ethan, listen." you started walked closer to him. he in turn started walking closer to the edge. "i didn't kiss him back. i just hesitated. i'm trying to tell you-"

"just shut up, (y/n)."

he raised his foot to take a step off the cliff.

"ethan!"

you ran to him and grabbed him by the waist, pulling him away from the cliff and down onto the ground. you started sobbing even harder.

mark ran up to you two and offered a hand to both of you. you each took one and stood up.

"listen, ethan. i'm sorry. i don't know why i kissed (y/n). but genuinely, they didn't kiss me back. i'm telling the complete honest truth. cross my heart, hope to die." mark got out in one breath.

"it's okay, annus." ethan mumbled. you fell back to the ground on your knees. ethan followed, and so did mark. you sobbed into ethans chest. ethan cried into mark's. mark held onto the both of you.

"i'm sorry." all of you said at the same time. "i just want to go home," ethan whispered.

"i'll take both of you to my place for the night," mark said, "so i can watch over you guys so nothing happens. both of you need a hot bath and a good night sleep. you look rough."
