•••"Shall we?"
You said, leaping off your stool
"We shall."
You lead the former hero out to the parking lot.
"If you don't mind walking? That's how I got here. Everything is just so close in this town."
"No worries I walked too. My place is just over there."
He pointed in the opposite direction you were walking. You began some small talk as you made your way down the empty street. This place was like a ghost town. There wasn't a light in sight and the closer you got to the motel the more and more bare your surroundings became. The two of you walked in the middle of the street. Forrest was on either side of you.You were on the last leg of your walk. When you could feel something lurking within the shadows.
"Call me crazy but I feel like someone's watching us." The former hero said breaking your ramble about whatever, something to keep him interested in you.
"Oh come on your just being paranoid."
you said, skipping a little in front of him. You began to walk backwards.
"There's no one out here and even if there was I have a big strong man to protect me."
You laughed. Twirly around in circles before continuing you walk backwards. He let out a small laugh but kept his eyes on the surroundings around you.
"Y/n you should come closer to me. I have a bad feeling."
"Oh come on everything's fi-."
You were cut off by a hand wrapped around your mouth. It was Dabis. He caught you. He pulled you back into him and moved the both of you a couple steps forward.
"Don't hurt them!"
The hero yelled out. He had his quirk activated.Roots. He could turn his arms into roots, spreading long distances and trapping his enemy.
"Hurt them? Now why would I hurt them. I love them."
Love?
"It's you who should be worried about hurting them. You were the one using this fucking god awful quirk to take advantage of people before you were let go by the hero industry. And even so all you got was a slap on the wrist. No charges. Nothing."The mans voice got shaky.
"I guess my past finally caught me, huh."
He activated his quirk shooting wooden ropes towards you and Dabi. Dabi pushed you out of the way and retaliated by shooting a blue flame engorging the roots and moved back to you."That's it?!"
Dabi laughed.
The former hero noticed Dabi approaching you again and deactivated his quirk and fell to his knees. Dabi stood behind you and placed his hand around your throat. Giving you a light squeeze.
"You're just gonna give up like a little bitch. Well this is an absolute bust."
Dabi sighed.
"You can't kill someone whose dead anyways."
Tears began to fill this mans eyes.
"Just do it."
He spoke through the tears.
For a split second you felt kind of bad, before thinking about the things he'd done. The things he would do to you if Dabi wasn't here. Or even one of the girls he was eying at the bar before he noticed you.
He has to go."Oh well. Hold on y/n were gonna do this one together." Dabi spoke as he moved his hand from your throat down to your waist. He held you into him and lifted his arm. The blue flames shot out. The power caused your hair to fly back a bit and the heat caused your cheeks to turn rosy. You saw as the flames consumed the man, fully aware that this was his fate.
Dabi turned to you as the flames took their toll on the man. He pulled your waist into a zealous kiss. The light from his flame lit up both your silhouettes. You pulled away slowly opening your eyes to see a small grin on Dabis face.
"Let's get the fuck out of here."(A/n: and they say romance is dead)
•••
You flopped on the creaky motel bed in defeat of that anticlimactic last kill and looked up at Dabi. He was standing near, rummaging through his bag.
"Your arm?!"
You said getting up from the bed. You rushed over to Dabi with his hand in the bag. It was bleeding a bit around his staples.
"Yeah it happens. There it is."
He said pulling out some wrappings from the pile of stuff. You took them from his hand and gestured for him to sit on the edge of the bed.
"I can do it you know."
"Let me."
You said, already arm in hand, trying your best to avoid hurting him. This has happened before. He'd come home, head straight to the bathroom, and come out with a bandage or damp washcloth lightly placed on his skin. You'd offer to help and he'd always tell you he was fine and you'd leave it at that. There was one time however, the two of you got a little rough in bed, which caused a few of the staples on his back to bleed. You felt bad, but he laughed it off. You finally convinced him to let you help him, telling him you wouldn't be able to sleep knowing it was you that caused him to bleed. He then told you that night the scarring was from a childhood injury but nothing more than that. Although you still wondered if his quirk was the reason for his scars.
You finally got the courage to ask."Can I ask you something?"
You asked, carefully wrapping his arm. He nodded and you proceeded.
"You said a while back a childhood injury caused your scaring."
You paused. He let out a small wince from the pain.
"This is just a theory so correct me if I'm wrong, but is your quirk the reasoning?"
You finished wrapping his arm and he ran his hands through his hair before getting up and heading over to his bag again.
"My body wasn't exactly made for this quirk."
He started.
He grabbed a cigarette from one of the pockets and gestured for you to come outside with him.The frosty air hit your faces as the two of you stood outside the motel. He lit the cigarette and took a puff.
"What do you mean your body wasn't made for this quirk?"
"It's a long story."
"I'm here to listen."
You said softly, leaning over the railing. He did the same, taking another long drag before starting. He began to speak about his family. His mother, a kind woman and his father, someone obsessed with the idea of the perfect child. The story was long and depressing. You came to learn that Dabis body rejected his fire quirk causing his body to burn. He told you how he left his home and life behind at a young age in search for something else. He took a minute then began to talk about how he had been debating going back to the City he grew up in to finally confront his father. His family. Of all the pain he had to endure. You just stared at him. It broke your heart learning this information. You just wanted to hold him in your arms tightly and never let go. You wish you could take all his pain away. He finished his story and turned to you with a look of release. The two of you stood under the stars for a minute as he finished the last of his cigarette and tossed it to the ground. You noticed out of the corner of your eye he was staring at you. The way you were looking up at the stars. Had your arms folded over the railing. A small breeze making your hair fly a little ways back.
"You should do it."
You said breaking the silence.
"Huh?"
He questioned. You turned fully towards him.
"You should go. Go confront him and show him what he did. What he made. And laugh at the sorry expression he makes. All the things you told me. This fantasy of you confronting him. You should do it."
He half smiled at your words when a look came over his face. The same look he had in your apartment. The unexplained look.
"What is it?"
You asked.
"What is what?"
"That facial expression. You've had it on and off for the past twenty four hours. Why?"
"If I do this."
He struggled to get his words out.
"I don't think we could be together anymore."
