(Y/N)'s pov

I was alone in the courtyard around 5 p.m. reading my astrology book. I can't take my eyes off the text, it was so interesting and the illustrations were beautiful. I read it all the time. I'm pretty the Viragos and the Marauders are jealous that I focus on the book so much.

"Is that the book that you got at the library?" Someone asked.

"Where else would I get my books?" I witted, not looking away from the text.

As I was reading, I felt someone peering over me. I turned my head to see who it was.

"Hiya (y/n)!"

"Galton! I didn't it was you."

"Obviously, you can't get your nose out of that book."

"Oh...yeah..." I chuckled. "Sorry, everything in this book is so fascinating."

"Astrology? I don't know much about astrology."

"Yes, well, it's complicated. When's your birthday?"

"May 19."

"Oh! So, you're a taurus."

"A what? Should I be offended?"

"Oh no! Taurus is the best! And it just happens to be compatible with my sign."

"What's your sign?"

"Pisces. My birthday is February 19th."

"I'll have to remember that." Galton noted.

"Anyway, what are you doing here?"

"I was just walking around and then I saw you so I decided to come over and say hi. I would ask 'what are you doing here?' but it's kind of obvious what you're doing here."

"I got nothing else to do so why not read some more?"

"If you got nothing else to do...would you like to accompany me to Hagrid's?" Galton asked with a sweet smile, hoping that I go with him.

"Would you want me to come with you to Hagrid's?"

"Well...you do make everything better."

"Says who?" I crossed my arms and had my book on my lap.

"Says me." He winked.

"Oh." I blushed and gave out a small smile.

"So will you come?"

"Yeah, I'll come."

We walked together. Side-by-side. Like what friends do. Nothing else. Friends.

"What's Ilvermorny like?" Galton suddenly asked.

"It's really fun there and so inclusive. Everyone was friends, and we learned to speak our minds. We also learned magic there, of course."

"Do you miss Ilvermorny? Or do you miss your friends? Or professors?"

"Of course I miss Ilvermorny, and everyone there. But I'll make new memories and friends here."

"I was close to going to Ilvermorny, but I ended up going here. I've always wondered what it was like there."

"I have a feeling you would've been a Pukwudgie."

"That's obvious." He laughed.

"Is there any events here? At Hogwarts? At Ilvermorny we would have something called a Mayflower Ball to celebrate when the Mayflower first landed in America. Of course it wasn't called 'America' back in the 1600s, but it's a tradition to celebrate the beginning of Ilvermorny's power."

"No, there's not many things to celebrate." Galton shrugged and kicked a pebble on the ground.

"Really?" I widened my eyes.

"Yeah. I wish that we had a ball but I wouldn't know what we would celebrate. There's Halloween. But we just have a big feast for that."

'Halloween is such an important holiday in the wizarding world.' I thought, 'A ball for that would be nice. A pretty ball, with gowns, suits, dates. But that's like any other ball. Unless...'

"Wait a second." I realized.

"What?"

"That's it! Galton, you're amazing!" I gave a small hug and started to run back to the castle.

"What? Wait- where are you going?" He yelled.

"Sorry, Galton, but I have to talk to Dumbledore. Tell Hagrid I said 'hi'!" I yelled back while running away.

"Oh...okay!" He exclaimed and (I'm assuming) he continued to walk to Hagrid's.

~~~
"Professor! Professor!"
I ran into Dumbledore's office. I have to stop running around all the time or else I'm going to need an inhaler.
"Yes, (y/n)?" Dumbledore patiently asked.
"I have...I ha...have...can you...just...give...me...a moment?" I was out of breath and paused for about a minute, "Okay..." I resumed,
"I have an idea for a ball."
"A ball?"
"Yes, a ball. Think about, professor, what's something important that's coming up soon?"
Dumbledore shrugged.
"Halloween!"
"So you want a Halloween ball?"
"Not just any Halloween ball. A masquerade ball!"
"Interesting..." Dumbledore nodded his head slowly.
"You can decorate it however you like, but Hogwarts needs a ball. Wouldn't it be wonderful?"
"Yes, it is a good idea. But I'll have to think about it."
"What's there to think about? It's an astounding idea." Dumbledore gave me a look and I sighed. "Okay...I'll let you think about it."
"Thank you." He smiled.
"Well that's all. Have a good day." I waved and turned the other way.
"Wait." Dumbledore called. I turned back around. "There is an old cottage in the forest. Nobody goes there, and nobody knows about it." He informed me.
"Why are you telling me this?" I asked.
"I just thought you would like to know."
"Thanks."
"Now...is there anything going on with you and Black?" He asked. I rolled my eyes and sighed.
"I told you, professor-"
"I'm not talking about that Black." He interrupted.
"Who else are you referring to?" I questioned. I obviously knew who he was talking about but might as well try to hide it.
"You know." He gave me a playful look, but then cleared his throat, "Well then, have a good day, Miss
(y/n)."
"Have a good day professer." I nodded and walked out of his office.
~~~

That night I didn't get much sleep. I was thinking about the ball and the cottage that Dumbledore mentioned.

'I can't do this.' I thought, and got out of bed. I left my dorm and went down to the empty common room. I sat on the couch and in front of me was a warm fire. I stared blankly at the fire. I didn't know what I was thinking about in that moment but it was interrupted by someone.

"(Y/n)?" Someone whispered. I turned to see who it was.

"James?" (Y/n) the circle glasses reflecting the fire, "What are you doing in your robes?" James was standing there, unlike (y/n), he was wearing his robes instead of pajamas.

"I- uh- I couldn't sleep. Thought I should stop by the kitchen." He shrugged, but I noticed that he was holding something.

"What's that in your hand?" I asked suspiciously.

"Hmm? Oh! This? It's just some parchment I found."

"Oh...okay. Well I couldn't sleep so I came down here."

"Mind if I join?"

"Not at all."

James sat next to me and there was some silence.

"I talked to Dumbledore today." I said, the ball is a perfect topic.

"About?"

"A ball."

"A ball?" James snickered.

"Yes, you idiot, a ball."

"Why are you talking about a ball?"

"So I can learn to sew." I said sarcastically and James cocked his head. "So we can have a ball at Hogwarts! Is there another reason to talk about a ball?"

"Depends what ball are you talking about. There are the ones that are tossed around, I think we already have those at Hogwarts though..."

"You're such a nincompoop."

"Why thank you very much."

"I'm talking about a ball. With dancing, gowns, suits, music, etcetera."

"And?"

"Think about it James. And actually use your brain cells...if you have any." I whispered the last four words under my breath.

"What did you say?"

"Imagine," I continued, ignoring James's question, "Halloween night, the Great Hall is lit with candles and decorated for the occasion. It is so elegant and everyone is dressed up with beautiful masks on their face. A masquerade ball."

"That sounds fancy."

"What part of 'it is so elegant' do you not understand?"

"Wait...does the ball includes...dates?"

"That's a possibility. But Dumbledore is still thinking about it."

"I think it sounds cool. You know, I can ask Evans to be my date if we do have one."

"Fascinating." I responded sarcastically. That conversation ended and it was silent again. Thinking back to earlier today with Galton, we were talking about zodiacs and our birthdays.

'I don't know any of the Marauders birthdays. Or anyone's birthday at all.'

"James."

"Hmm?"

"When's your birthday?"

"March 27th."

"You're an Aries?"

"Uh- yeah- sure."

"That explains so much..." I muttered, "When is Remus's birthday? And Sirius's? And Peter's?"

"Remus is March 10th, Sirius is November 3rd, and Peter is May 23rd. Why?"

"What do you mean why? You guys are my friends. It's my duty to know your guys' birthdays."

"That's true. So when's your birthday?"

"February 19th."

"Cool..."

"Well, I'm going to bed. If you do go to the kitchens, get me something." I said, standing up and walked over to the girl dormitories.

"Good night, (y/n)." James called out.

"Good night, nincompoop." I responded back, followed by a yawn.

A/N: Sorry if this chapter is sort of random. Will there be a ball? Maybe...but I just hope you individuals enjoyed it! <3
