I had left Five alone to his thoughts... not sure whether that was a good idea or not.

After waiting for Allison to finish calling Vanya, we met back up with Diego.

"You're welcome." He remarked, handing the files to Allison, with an evil grin on his face.

I rolled my eyes and looked back at five, who was leaning against the wall, still looking at his feet.

Something was definitely wrong with him, although he blames his 'keep to self-ness' on the fact that he is going to loose everything, I really don't think that's the case.

He has known for how many years that he was going to loose things that he loves, that the world was ending... why mourn over the idea of it now?

He looked up at me, with pain in his green eyes.

I stared back with the same amount of pain. The pain of loosing him, my friends and my life.

The pain of all the scars, blows and hits that I had suffered whilst with him.

But mostly the pain of knowing that he is hurting, more than anyone in this damn world.

I blinked back tears that were threatening to escape my eyes.

I turned around, so I was no longer facing the boy, he didn't need to see me cry.

Sometimes memories sneak out of my eyes and roll down my cheeks... good and bad. Things I wanted to remember and things I wish I would just forget. He didn't need to relive my memories i wish I never had.

"Holy shit!" Allison shouted.

I snapped my head up towards the sound, my tears still half way down my cheek.

"What?" Diego asked.

"Harold Jenkins is Leonard Peabody." She showed us a mugshot of a man with black hair and droopy eyes.

I let out a sharp breath. He wasn't my father.

In a way I was glad, the person who raised me, wasn't trying to destroy the world... but I'm kind of devastated, he is not my father, meaning my father is not the most evil thing on this planet.

After contemplating for a few minutes, Diego and Allison decided that it would be best to go to the psycho's  house and look for him.

I strongly disagreed but they insisted that would be the safest option.

Five surprisingly didn't say a word  through out the whole discussion.

——

"Be careful, okay? We don't know what Peabody's capable of." Allison said as soon as we stepped out of the car onto Leonard's front yard.

"Yeah, he didn't seem dangerous when I first saw him. Looked kinda scrawny." Diego added.

"That's because you weren't expecting any danger from an innocent man dating your sister." I replied with a scoff.

Diego and five walked towards the door, still blabbering on about Vanya and the creep.

Allison called me over and we went around the back of the house.

We got in just in time to see Diego jump through the glass door and land hard on the floor.

I let out a light chuckle.

"That was very graceful Diego." I spoke in between my laughter.

"Subtle." Allison added.

"You know the door was unlocked." Five said pointing to the broken door.

That made me laugh even louder.

"Spread out." Diego spat.

"Y/n is coming with me." Allison and Five both blurted at the same time.

"Fine just go with her." Five quickly insisted, before walking off.

I shrugged and followed Allison upstairs.

I was going to go with Allison regardless of the outcome of that little competition. Five needed his space from me.

I obviously destroy every relationship I am in.

—-

We looked around the corridor for any sign of life, that's when I spotted a little hatch for an attic.

"Uh? Allison?" I called out.

"Yes?" She asked. I pointed upwards, towards the opening. She smiled and reached up on her tiptoes to pull down the string.

We walked up the small flight of stairs into the dusty attic.

"Well. This isn't creepy." I declared.

"Shit." I turned around to see Alison leaning over some figurines.

I leant down next to her to see little people, in masks dressed in the same, blue and red uniform as Five and I.

"Shit indeed." I trembled.

"Guys, you need to see this." We called the two boys up.

They both came in a matter of seconds.

There were posters of some children and Five. "All our faces are burnt off." Allison pointed out.

"Well, that's not creepy." Diego replied sarcastically.

I looked over at Five to see what he thought about all of this.

He was looking at his torso, lifting up his blazer slightly.

Then he collapsed.

It was a slow, graceful movement but it seemed to happen too fast.

"Five?!" I dropped down to the ground next to him.

My hands fluttered over his body, unsure of what to do.

By this stage Diego and Allison are also on the floor, leaning over him.

No, I can't loose him. Anyone but him.

Take me. Pull me into the darkness, I don't care if I never see the light again. Take me to the place where people remain memories.

Just leave him here, leave him on earth, where those people once made souvenirs to carry with them to the afterlife.

I put my hand on his forehead, moving his hair out of his sweaty face.

"What's wrong, Five?" I asked in a shaky voice.

He groaned in response.

"Blood." Diego revealed a bullet hole in fives stomach, by lifting up his shirt.

I didn't give a second thought about my undeniable hatred for blood. Not when he was the one bleeding.

"Why didn't you say anything?" I whispered to him.

"You have to keep going." Five insisted.

"You stupid, stupid boy, why would you do that?" I cried.

"So... close." Was the last thing he mumbled before he went totally silent.

No.

"Five?" Diego and Allison said, shaking the boy.

"Five! No- no. Please wake up Five! You can't leave us. You promised."

No response.

"We have to move him. But it's going to be very painful." Diego hissed.

I nodded my head quickly. "Okay."

I looked down at the unconscious boy. "I'm sorry Five, this is going to hurt a little bit." I whispered to him.

I stood up and moved away so Allison and Diego could pick him up.

——

An hour later we arrived at the mansion.

The two -conscious- Hargreeves  carried five and placed him on a small couch.

"What do we do now?" I asked them.

"He is still loosing a lot of blood." Allison stated.

"We gotta get the shrapnel out." Diego replied to my question, but stopped mid sentence and walked off.

"Hey asshole, we need to fix him" I called out.

"Diego? Where are you going?" The girl next to me shouted back at her brother.

He returned a few seconds later with Grace- Fives mother, so to speak.

I let out a sigh.

——

A few minutes later, Grace was finished mending Five's bullet wound.

She let me sit by his bed... she insisted on checking my head, but I politely declined.

I needed her to focus on Five and his well-being.

She walked out of the small room, leaving unconscious Five and I to ourselves.

"Five... you probably can't hear me, honestly I would feel a lot better if you couldn't." I took in a deep breath.

"I am so sorry, I'm sorry for getting you shot, I'm sorry for not looking out for you.. I'm sorry I wasn't there. And I'm sorry I didn't say it before."

"All you do is run around, protecting everyone from anything. You spent 40 years doing something you would never do if you had the choice, just to come back here and do something you didn't sign up for. I am so very grateful."

"i need you to know that... I love you."
