MARIE
I was busy eating my chocolate sundae as Near ate his chocolate sundae. Like last time, I had some dark chocolate skulls on my ice cream. "Dark chocolate skulls?" Near asked. I looked at him and nodded. "That's pretty interesting," Near continued. "It's best to say that this cafe is pretty creative with its sweets, desserts, and ice cream. "Rumor has it that this is where my favorite model Misa Amane would usually get her strawberry sundae," I told Near as I pretended like I didn't know that the rumors about Misa Amane were true. Just then, Near looked at me as if he wanted to tell me something serious. "Marie," he began. "About what you said about Misa Amane...there's something that I want to tell you." "Oh?" I asked. "What is it, Near?" Just then, Near shushed me. "What I'm about to tell you," he began quietly. "You can't tell anyone about this. I have no idea what Chief Matsuda and Commander Aizawa would do if anyone outside of the Task Force or the SPK knew about this, but that's why I have to tell you this quietly. But before I do, you have to promise me that you won't tell anyone about this."
I nodded. "I promise, Near," I told him quietly. "Now what is it that you want to tell me?" Near sighed. "Due to the public, it's not the easiest thing to say," he began quietly. "But Misa Amane...is very much alive. She's in the Shibuya Mental Asylum. From what I've heard, she was going to commit suicide by jumping off a building, but Chief Matsuda and Commander Aizawa stopped her. Ironically, she went there to try to kill herself, only to almost slip off the safety rail screaming that she didn't want to die. Right after she was rescued, Misa was arrested and placed behind bars. Her arrest was made in secrecy so nobody would have known what just happened. Once in jail, Chief Matsuda and Commander Aizawa came out with a message saying that Misa committed suicide, but they didn't disclose how she did it so that people would believe them. In jail, Misa went crazy in prison which freaked the officers and the other inmates that were with her out. So, Chief Matsuda and Commander Aizawa had no choice but to place her in a cell at the Shibuya Mental Asylum. Only people who are affiliated with the Japanese Task Force and the people who work at the Shibuya Mental Asylum can visit her."
I looked at Near with a look on my face like I already knew about this which made him get a little unsettled. "Marie?" he asked in an unsettled tone. "Why don't you seem more surprised that I'm telling you a secret?" I hesitated and scratched my head. "And why are you hesitating?" Near asked. "I'm sorry," I answered. "I just...am really surprised on the inside, I'm just..." I stammered as I tried to think of a lie that I could tell him. "I heard this theory before on the news," I continued. "That's why I don't look surprised." Near glared at me once he heard this. "It wasn't my idea that this rumor was placed on the news," I told him. Near sighed and wiped the glare off of his face. "Sorry," he told me. "I'm not very sure you'd wanna meet Misa Amane." I made a confused look on my face. "Why not?" I asked. "Well," Near began quietly. "Because she became a different person after Light died. Officer Mogi visited her in the asylum, but all that he saw in her was hatred and anger. Officer Ide's sister didn't have a very pleasant meeting with Misa Amane as well. She became very aggressive with her and even tried viciously attacking her."
I dropped my jaw and felt my heart drop when I heard this. I always knew that Misa wasn't the same ever since Light died, but still, I couldn't believe how crazy she went. I mean, trying to attack a police officer? What had become of her when Light died? "Anyway," Near began quietly. "I'm sure you know that the documents were accidentally leaked and now the whole world knows that Light Yagami was Kira. However, there are others who believe that Light was innocent all along and that Teru Mikami was the real Kira. Civillains have asked Chief Matsuda and Commander Aizawa which story is true, but they won't give out an answer. It was intended that Light was going to be someone who died trying to catch Kira and that the real Kira had disappeared.
I watched as Near curled a lock of his hair. "And the sad thing is that Teru Mikami has no blood-related family that's still alive and if he does, they have yet to come out," he continued. "I must say that it's strange that your teacher, Kaito, and his father share the last name of Teru Mikami. What makes things even more suspicious is that his mother has a different last name. I've heard from his girlfriend, Ms. Hirota that Kaito's mother's name is Yume Kagami." I held my mouth open and softly gasped once I heard that. "That's strange," I let out. "I wonder why she didn't change her last name if she got married." "Not really," Near said as he shook his head. "Some women don't change their last name when they get married. However, I can see why you'd think it's strange. There's nothing known about Teru Mikami's father. From what I heard, Teru Mikami's parents had some pretty heated times when he was a toddler. They got a divorce for some reason."
I slightly tilted my head. "Do you know the reason why they got a divorce?" I asked. "I wish," Near answered. "But if I had to guess, it would probably be because of financial problems. I'd hate to assume the worst." I stayed silent for a little bit. "What do you mean by the worst?" I asked. "Do you mean that Teru Mikami's father cheated on his mother with another woman?" Near sighed. "I really don't wanna believe that," he told me. "It always makes me both sad and angry when people get cheated on. I mean, what's the point? People fall in love with someone else, just to fall out of love with them and fall in love with someone else. It disgusts me every time." I sighed. "Near, be honest with me," I began. "Are you scared that if you start dating someone they'll fall out of love with you and start cheating on you?"
Near made a slightly bothered look when I said this. "Why would you even assume that?" he asked as he raised his voice a little bit, but wasn't loud enough for the whole restaurant to hear him. "Sorry, sorry," I answered as I tried to calm him down. "It's just that you said that it disgusts you." "It disgusts many people," Near informed me. "It disgusts you too, right?" I nodded without saying anything because I knew that I may have gotten on Near's bad side. I watched as he sighed. "Sorry," Near told me. "I overreacted." I shrugged it off and grinned. "It's fine," I assured Near. "Everyone has their moments. Even I have them. Anyway, this was fun. I really enjoyed spending time with you today." I watched as Near smiled. "I feel the same way as well," he told me. "You know, us spending time together as two friends."
I smiled back at Near. "Yeah," I agreed. "It really was a great day." Near and I continued to smile at each other for a little bit until I noticed something sketchy from outside the window. I saw a woman wearing a charcoal-colored fur jacket with her black hair up in a messed-up ponytail. I squinted my eyes so that I could see what she was holding in her pocket. I watched as she entered the cafe and went up to a table. I watched as a male waiter who looked to be of Japanese descent. "Welcome in, Miss," he greeted her. "Is there anything I can get you to...?" Just then, the woman pulled out something from her pocket. My heart dropped when I found out that what she just pulled out was a gun. Everyone in the restaurant gasped once they saw this. I watched as Near made a confused look on his face, turned around, and instantly froze once he saw what people were gasping at.
"I'm not here to make an order," the woman told the waiter. "I'm here for REVENGE!!!" "Get down!" Near begged. I ducked under the table with Near just in time before I heard the sound of gunshots. I heard the sound of people screaming as the gunshots were being fired. After six more rings, I no longer heard the sound of gunshots and heard people murmuring in fear. I tried to stay calm since the woman had a gun. I turned and looked at Near to find him heavily breathing through his mouth in fear, but did it quietly. "Near," I said quietly. I watched as Near continued heavily breathing in fear. "Near," I said in a minimum-volume tone.
I watched as Near grabbed onto my left hand while breathing heavily. I continued to watch as he didn't stop breathing heavily. "W-w-why are you doing this, Miss?" I heard the waiter ask. "And what do you mean by revenge?" "Isn't it obvious?!" I heard the woman ask. "Because it's fun! And what did you expect me to do?! Just to crawl back into a little ball of fear just because a new Kira is among us?! Well, not me! Also, I need to get back at a girl for stealing my boyfriend a while back! Her name is Shontelle Davis and she stole my boyfriend! Now can any of you, tell me where I can find that tramp, or else, everyone in the restaurant is going to get shot!" Everyone in the restaurant gasped. I looked at Near as he tried to calm himself down. "Marie," Near said quietly. "Can I ask you a serious question?" I nodded. "Yes, Near," I answered quietly. "What is it?" "Do you think that the current Kira is here in this restaurant?" Near asked.
I stayed quiet and didn't know how to answer that question. I shook my head and lied to him. "I don't know," I answered quietly. "Why do you ask me this if you're against Kira?" Near stayed silent for a few seconds. "I have that feeling," Near answered quietly. "This weird feeling. Kind of like the feeling that you had right when you had a vision about the school collapsing. Only except, I get a strong feeling that he or she is here." I was drawn aback by what Near said and it even gave me chills because I am the current Kira. He both likes and opposes me at the same time. Oh, Light. What do I do? How am I going to kill this woman without Near catching me? I guess I should just listen in on the situation just in case you're too sleepy to come and help me. I thought to myself. Just then, we heard footsteps clamoring around the restaurants and into the kitchen.
Near and I stayed under the table as we heard the sounds of plans clamoring on the floor in the kitchen. "Where's Shontelle Davis?!" we heard the woman ask. "Uh..." we heard someone say for an answer. "Tell me!" we heard the woman shout. "We don't know!" we heard one of the male employees say. "She's on her lunch break!" "The last order she took before she left was with this one couple," we heard a female employee say. "Who exactly are you again?" "My name is Momo Momo!" I heard the woman shout. "My ex-boyfriend compared me to the menace to society, Saiko Kikuchi who's one of the survivors of the Kanto Region American High School collapse over a week ago! Now, tell me when is Shontelle coming back?!" "We don't know!" we heard a female employee answer. "She's on her lunch break! We don't know when she's coming back! I mean, she might come back within an hour!" "Ugh!" I heard Momo yell. "Tell me which table the couple was sitting at!" "Right away!" we heard one of the female employees say.
Just then, we heard heavy footsteps coming out of the kitchen. Just then, Near started to breathe heavily again. This time, his heavy breathing was too loud. To prevent myself from panicking, I removed my hand that was underneath Near's hand and covered his mouth with it to keep Momo from finding out which table we were still at. Near's voice was muffled since he tried to say something to me, but I couldn't understand what it was. I gently shushed him to keep him. "We have to keep quiet," I whispered to Near. "Maybe the chefs and the other employees don't remember where we sat at." "I doubt that they'd still be here," we heard a female employee say as I removed my hand from Near's mouth. "Don't try and stop me!" we heard Momo yell. "I know that they're still here! I can feel it in my gut!"
Damn it! There's no choice, I've gotta find a way to kill Momo Momo right away! There's no telling what she would do once she finds me and Near under the table. More importantly, how do I write down Momo Momo's name without Near noticing? And also, should I keep it simple by having Momo die of a heart attack? I thought to myself. I then shook my head. What am I kidding? I can't kill Momo with a heart attack. Then everyone, including Near will know that I'm the current Kira. I've got to find a new way to kill Momo. I need to lure her outside. So yes, I need to make sure that she'll be hit by a truck. Yes, an 18-wheeler. That's perfect. I thought to myself. I waited for an opportunity to make sure that Near wasn't looking, but to be fair, it was going to be pretty hard because Near was obviously going to know that I was up to something. Despite the current situation, I knew that I had to write Momo Momo's name on the piece of the Death Note I got from Light.
Right when Near wasn't looking, I quickly pulled on my watch right before it opened up and revealed a piece of the Death Note. I then wrote down:
モモ・モモ
警察のサイレンを聞いた後、彼女がカフェを脱出したときに18輪車に襲われます。女性は彼女の席から立ち上がって、警官が向かっていることを彼女に明らかにします。その後、彼女は数秒後に死ぬためだけにシーンを離れるしかありません。
The English translation says:
Momo Momo
Gets hit by an 18-wheeler when she escapes the cafe after hearing police sirens. A woman will get up from her seat and reveal to her that the cops are on their way. Then, she'll have no choice but to leave the scene only to die seconds later.
After I wrote down Momo's name on the piece from the Death Note, I placed the pen away and closed my watch before Near could look at me. I listened in on everything that was going on. It was extremely quiet after I wrote Momo's name down on the piece of the Death Note. I found that very weird and I hoped that Momo would have just given up by now. I tapped on Near's shoulder and watched as he turned to look at me. "Do you think that she's not in the cafe anymore?" I asked him in a whisper. I watched as Near was about to answer, but before he could, I heard the sound of someone running up to our table. Just then, Momo grabbed Near and pulled him out from under the table. Near screamed and reached his hands out to me, but Momo's grip on him was pretty strong for a woman. Everyone gasped when they watched all of this. "Near!" I cried out.
"Shut up, you freak!" I heard Momo yell out. I then watched as Momo pulled out a knife as Near continued to struggle with her. "Put me down!" Near begged. "Let me go!" As Near continued to struggle with the woman, I tried to look for something sharp that I could use to stab Momo so that she would let go of Near. Just then, I saw a steak knife under the table. Knowing that it would be very useful, I picked it up and rushed out from under the table. Without wasting any time, I stabbed Momo in the shoulder. I watched as she dropped Near and let out a scream of pain. I watched as she turned around and looked at me with a furious look on her face. "YOU LITTLE WENCH!" Momo yelled. "WHY DID YOU HAVE TO STAB ME IN THE SHOULDER?! YOU COMPLETE UTTER TRAMP!" Momo let out a scream as she tried to slash at me. I held my arms up, closed my eyes, and covered my face with them bracing myself for her to stab me.
Just then, I heard the sound of someone getting slashed along with the sound of someone groaning in pain. I uncovered my face to see that the person who got slashed was none other than Near. I gasped once I saw this. "Near!" I shouted as I caught him. I heard Near gasping in pain as I held him close to me. "Near," I told him. I looked down as I heard him wheezing and saw blood coming out from his wound. "Serves your little boyfriend right for trying to get in my way," I heard Momo say. I looked up at her with an angry look on my face. "In fact, Goth girls like you are known for dating those kinds of freaks, you prick!" Momo said out loud. "Now, tell me where Shontelle Davis is, or else, I'll finish your little boyfriend off!" I shook my head and scoffed. "Like I would ever!" I responded back. "It's not like I know where she went! I'm not her boss! How am I supposed to know what her schedule is?!" I watched as Momo growled and looked at me with a very scary look. "Well, I guess you're boyfriend is dead!" she shouted.
I watched as she raised the knife up, but that's when a miracle happened. We all heard the sound of police sirens and Momo made a horrified look on her face. "What the hell?!" she shrieked. "I just called Chief Matsuda and Commander Aizawa!" I heard a woman say as Momo turned and looked at her. "They're on their way!" I turned and saw a woman holding up a Nokia 6822. Just then, Momo gasped in fear. I watched as she turned around and sped outside the cafe only to not go far due to the stab wound that I gave her. She stopped right in the middle of the road and looked like she was trying to gasp for air. That's when an 18-wheeler came out of nowhere and headed straight to Momo. I watched as looked to the left as the big truck came her way. However, there was no time for Momo to react. Just as I wrote down on the piece from the Death Note, the 18-wheeler ran her over in front of the cafe.
Everyone panicked as they watched Momo get run over by the 18-wheeler. I on the other hand made a smug smirk on my face. I've never been so happy in my life to see a person who dared to hurt one of my friends rammed down by an 18-wheeler.
