for the past 2 weeks, ari refused to talk to anyone other than mattia.
mattia has offered to go down to matt's house and beat the shit out of him, but ari talked him out of it.
she sat in silence with mattia for the majority of the 2 weeks. she just needed to see that she had someone.
her best friend, leah, had been in summer camp for the entirety of summer, and she only had her phone available for a few hours each day for some stupid reason. ari never understood summer camps, but that's besides the point. usually, leah and ari spend the entire 3 hours leah was allowed to use her phone calling or texting.
so when ari didn't pick up any of leah's calls, or her texts, leah got worried. she eventually thought of texting mattia, but mattia didn't really go into detail since he didn't think it was his place to. all he told her was that matt was an asshole and a terrible person, which only scared leah more.
as soon as leah reentered boston, she went straight to the polibio's. she threw her suitcase near the entrance, briefly said hi to their parents, and went upstairs to ari's room.
"what the fuck happened!" she yelled, looking at ari's disheveled state.
"matt cheated on me."
"oh, ana." leah walked up to her and gave her a huge hug.
usually, ari would pinch leah for calling her ana. everyone used to call her that when she a was a child, but she just outgrew it. she kinda hates it now, but for the sake of leah, she wouldn't admit it.
"it's whatever, though."
"totally not whatever-" leah stopped speaking, because she noticed mattia's livid face.
"what's wrong with your face?" leah asked.
"what's wrong with yours?" matti rolled his eyes, not taking his eyes off of his phone.
"calm the fuck down." leah rolled her eyes back at him.
"why do you look like you're about to kill someone?" ari asked, peaking at his phone screen. "oh."
"yeah." he nodded.
"okay, wow." leah blinked. "show me?"

"is this the same bitch that made you doubt his loyalty multiple times?" leah asked. when ari shamefully nodded, leah couldn't help but laugh. "she's so basic! what was he even thinking!"
"that's what i said!" mattia nodded.
"woah! you two are finally agreeing on something!" ari gasped dramatically.
"first and last time." mattia said sternly.
"calm down. don't act like i want to agree with you." leah rolled her eyes.
"telling me to calm down but you keep rolling your eyes at me, yeah, okay, i'm the one that needs to calm down."
"you know what? you have such a big mouth and i'm not-"
"OKAY." ari stood up. "wanna go grab something to eat, leah? catch up after your little camp thingy."
"i'm the only one that can drive, dumbasses." matti added absentmindedly.
"we'll walk." leah said sassily.
"better yet, i'll go get my drivers license." she suggested.
"you sure?" mattia asked. "you haven't driven in a while."
"unfortunately, i remember all my lessons." she shrugged. "very vividly."

her dad knew a guy that knew a guy that would help get ari her drivers license with minimal effort. all she had to do was drive around for 5-10 minutes and she was golden.
when it was over, she immediately ran over to leah and yelled, "i got my shit, bitch!"
"you passed!" leah said, shocked.
"obviously!"
it was definitely one of the most bittersweet moments ari had ever experienced. she was happy because she passed, and she could now legally drive. however, she couldn't do all the things she promised she would do with matt. she wasn't sure she wanted to find someone else to do them with.
"let's go rub this in mattia's face." leah said immediately.
"weird how he's the first thing you think about."
leah's face turned red. "it's just because i don't want him to drive us around everywhere! he's so annoying."
"yeah, okay." ari nodded.
"don't 'yeah okay' me, bitch!"

"congrats, baby!" ari's mom gave her a big fat kiss.
"thanks, ma." ari gave her a kiss back.
"so proud of you." her dad hugged her and gave her a kiss on the forehead.
"thanks, papa."
"i have a surprise for you!" mattia said.
mattia walked in the room with the ugliest cake ever.
"it's so beautiful!" she looked at it.
"kai helped me with it, but he kept laughing at me so i told him to go home."
they cut the cake and ate it, "at least it tastes good." ari acknowledged.
