Ruhi🦋

I slowly opened my eyes, greeted by the soft, filtering light of the early morning sun through my bedroom window. As I stretched and yawned, taking a moment to awaken fully, my thoughts began to race with a mix of anticipation and nervousness for the day ahead.

It was my first day of college, and I hoped I was prepared for whatever the day would bring.

Even though the last six months had been a literal hell for me, I had already lost all hope in life, it seemed that fate or some higher power might still have something in store for me.

After getting out of bed, I made sure to tidy up my room. Then, I took a quick, refreshing shower, and before I realized it, half an hour had gone by. I was snapped out of my thoughts by the sound of my mother's voice calling me, and I quickly dried myself off and stepped out of the shower.

I quickly got ready, wearing a stylish combination of a white top paired with blue straight pants. I added a touch of light makeup to complete the look, just enough to enhance my features without going overboard.

After seeing myself for the last time in the mirror I went down for breakfast

As I was about to step out of my room, I heard my mother calling me from the kitchen. I could smell the aroma of her cooking wafting through the corridor, and it made my stomach grumble.

I quickly went to the kitchen and found my mother busying herself, preparing breakfast for the morning.

'Good morning, Mumma ,' I greeted her cheerfully as I entered the kitchen.
She gave me a stern look, obviously not pleased with the fact that I was running late yet again.

'You're late again,' she said, her voice tinged with disappointment. 'You should really start waking up early like everyone else.'

I rolled my eyes slightly at my mother's scolding, knowing that I had heard it countless times before. "Yeah mumma i will learn".

I grabbed my bowl of breakfast and made my way to the dining table, ready to eat.

I sat down and started shovelling food into my mouth, trying to eat as quickly as I could.

I didn't want to be late for college, especially on my very first day.

Dad strode into the room with a smile on his face, greeting me warmly.

'Good morning, sweetie.'

I looked up from my breakfast and responded to his greeting with a cheerful, 'Good morning, Dad.'

I let out a sigh as my father checked his watch and remarked, 'We're running late. Ruhi.'

I spoke up, a hint of surprise in my voice, 'Wait, we're late? I'm the one who's running late, Dad.'

Dad chuckled and clarified, 'No, I mean I'm going to drop you at college, so we are both running late. We better hurry.'

Ah! Here we go again despite being 21 years old, it wasn't uncommon for my family to drop me off at college. You might wonder why, right? Well, my family is extremely protective, or rather, overly protective.

They have this strange belief that if anything goes wrong in this world, it somehow has to happen to me. It's as if they think I'm a walking magnet for trouble.

Honestly, I wondered if my family had even heard of the word 'freedom.' Because let me tell you, it's not a concept that's familiar to them when it comes to me. I mean, seriously, they never let me have a moment of freedom. No chance for independence, ever.

It's not like I don't appreciate their concern for my well-being and safety. I get it, they want to protect me. But sometimes, I wish they would just loosen the reins a bit and let me live my own life, make my own decisions, and experience things on my own terms.

I was suddenly snapped back to reality by my dad's voice, reminding me,

"Again, you got lost in your thoughts. We're going to be late. Hurry up!"

I quickly packed up my belongings and rushed towards the door. 'Yeah, yeah,' I muttered as I made my way out, ready to head to college.

We sped along the road until we reached the campus. Dad drove me to the college and dropped me off at the entrance.

I found myself standing in the middle of the campus, surrounded by the sound of people laughing, chatting, and overall just having a good time with their friends.

As I took in the sight of all the people around me, a pang of nervousness hit my stomach. God, I thought to myself, how am I going to handle all this?

I tried to push aside my nervousness, determined to just focus on finding my class. But wait... Do I even know where my class is? *Ahh, crap! Nooo!*

I felt a tight grip on my hand, and I jumped in surprise, my heart racing.

But then, as I turned around, I was met with the sight of a girl with stunning, curly hair and a beautiful, radiant smile.

She looked at me with a warm smile and said, "Hey, are you okay? You seem a bit lost."

I stumbled over my words a bit, still slightly startled by her unexpected presence.

"Huh? Yeah...I'm okay," I replied, my voice a mix of surprise and nervousness.

"Are you sure?" she asked again, her smile still intact but now laced with a hint of concern.

"You look a bit lost. Is this your first day here?" I nodded, feeling a bit shy all of a sudden.

"Yeah, it is," I admitted.

"I'm looking for my class, but I have no idea where it is."

She chuckled softly "Ah, I see," she said. "No worries, I can help you. What class are you looking for?"

I quickly checked my timetable. "I'm looking for Room 202,"

I replied, hoping that I had gotten it right.

"Business management?" She asked.

I was surprised by her accuracy. "Yeah, that's right," I confirmed. "How did you know?"

She took my hand gently but firmly and led me towards the class. "Come on, it's my class too," she said with a smile. As she guided me through the corridors, I couldn't help but sneak glances at her.

Her confidence and effortless beauty were truly captivating. We reached Room 202, and she opened the door confidently. "We're here," she said to me, still holding my hand. As we stepped inside the classroom, I felt my heart racing, both from the excitement of finally finding my class and by seeing soo many peoples.
We settled into our seats in the middle row.

She turned to me and asked, "By the way, what's your name?"

I mustered up the courage to speak, my voice still a bit shaky as we were surrounded by a room full of new people. "Ruhi," I replied in a soft voice.

She smiled warmly, seemingly unbothered by the room full of strangers. "Ruhi," she repeated, as if trying to remember my name.

"That's a nice name. I'm sherlin."

sherlin... the name suited her perfectly. It was as if her name and her presence were perfectly aligned. I could feel my nerves slowly calming down in her presence, and I even managed a small smile.

"Nice to meet you, shirlin," I said, managing a somewhat steadier voice this time.

"Likewise," shirlin replied, her smile still in place. There was an awkward pause, and I could feel a few pairs of eyes on us. But before I could say anything, the teacher had entered the class.

The moment was interrupted as the teacher walked into the class, commanding everyone's attention. The chatter died down, and the class began. We sat silently, listening to the teacher's instructions and taking notes.

As the class went on, shirlin leaned over and whispered bits and pieces of useful information to me. She told me about the different subjects, the teachers and some campus gossip. With her help, I felt my nervousness slowly slipping away.

It was a small comfort to know that there was at least one person I could rely on in this new environment.
