Continued from 五十八
The chains rattled, as I opened, yet again closed my eyes. I'm tired. Being in here everyday is so tiring. I sighed, and tossed and turned.
He comes in, holding a plate of pumpkin pie, which I immediately sit straight up for. "For me?" My voice cracked, but my eyes were shining.
He nods, and hands the plate over to me, with a pair of roundish forks. I guess he didn't want me to kill myself...but today was the best day ever. Pumpkin pie.
I tasted the pie, slowly savoring it. It tastes like home. A few drops of tears plopped out my eyes, and onto the mattress. "Are you okay honey?" He asks.
"Yeah. I'm fine." What a great lie I always tell myself. I'm fine. I'm okay. I'm alright. When were these words genuinely true?
I was at school, when I realized the change of weather. It was...finally fall! I was so excited to get home to mother and father. I knew what was awaiting for me at home.
"Psst! Rue! Wanna come over to my place later?" I smiled. He looks up from his book, tilting his head at me. "Sure. But why?" He asks.
"I got something tasty!" I smirked. The bell soon rang, as I grabbed my bag, and impatiently waited for Rue to put on his jacket.
When he was done, I quickly dragged him out the doors, and ran towards home with him. I laughed along the way, as he huffed.
I got to my house quickly, and knocked on the door. Nobody was home yet? Me and Rue shared a look. I took my keys out my bag, and opened the door slowly.
"Mom? Dad? Are you guys home?" I asked. My voice echoed back to me, as no other response was heard. Oh. I guess they weren't home.
I kicked off my shoes to the side, and waited for Rue to gently put his shoe at the corner. Then I grabbed his hand, and walked inside to the kitchen.
I opened the fridge. There it was. The best pumpkin pie ever made. Made by my parents. I eagerly stared at it, and took the pie out.
I grabbed forks, knives, and plates for us. We quickly settled down, as I sliced the cake. When we both had our pieces, we both took the tantalizing bite of the pie.
"Mmmmmm!" I groaned, as the filing melted on my tongue. It tasted so wonderful! I wonder when my parents will get home though. I looked at the clock. 7:00PM.
They should be home by now. A unsettling feeling came to me. When we were done with our pie, we sat by the couches, and watched tv. As I switched the news on, everything came crashing down.
There was a car crash on the highway 401, as two families lost their life. A parents looking like in their 30's, with a baby in the car that miraculously survived, and two parents who are permanently lost.
As I stared at the screen, unknowingly tears rolled out my eyes as I saw the pictures. Father. Mother. I stared at the screen emptily, as all the other words blurred.
Rue patted my back from behind. I cried in his arms that day, as things were unacceptable. How could god be so cruel against me? Why?
He took the plate away from me, as I finished. "I want more." My voice cracked. "More. Please. More." As I said those words, tears flowed continuedly.
Rue's eyes widened, then gently softened. "Alright love. I'll grab some more for you alright? So please, stop with the tears. They don't look pretty on such a pretty person like you."
He kisses my forehead, and walks out the room, leaving me alone once again. I paused. This feeling. I didn't want to be left alone.
I don't want to rot here like this...I'm scared. When's Rue coming back? I'm scared-it's dark here- "I'm back love." He says, coming back with another slice of pie.
While I was in the middle of eating the pie, I paused, as he looked at me questioningly. "Is something wrong sweetheart?" He asks.
"You won't...ever leave me right?" I was a little hesitant to say those words, but I said it anyway. His eyes widened. "Of course not. I keep you here, so your safe." He says, smiling.
I reach out my hands towards him, forgetting the pie, as it soon dropped, and splat on the floor. He smiled, and pulled me in for a cute hug.
He gently bites my neck. "I would never leave you sweetheart. Not now, not ever." He says, lips curling, unknowns to me. Perhaps, this was the better place for me.
Being with him in the dark place, where he and... I... considered this home.
