No one but Hayley knew what happened behind the school...

No one knows about the other fairy...

After I was done being so shocked she asked me questions. But I just ran away. Everyone was dismissed after the lightning died down. I just left my bag and ran into the woods near the school.

I looked at my hands. My outfit. And tiny glimpses of my blue wings.

My hair was now a light pink shade and longer. Half up and half down. I had a pink wire bracelet holding the crystal inside. Only it was now entirely black.

I had a sort of long white simmering shirt. Almost like a dress, longer on one side. I had a flowy sleeve on my right arm and short sleeve on the left.

Light blue beads as a belt. I had wedged flats and purple leggings that were also sparkling. I relaxed after a few hours and finally it wore off.

I was back to normal. I got my phone out of my pocket and was surprised to see my mom hadn't called.

I went back to school and found my bag. Texted my mom and within 30 minutes I was home.

I didn't say a word about what went on that day. And I wouldn't have either.

November

My birthday. I'm 14 now. I didn't tell Hayley it was my birthday because she would most likely make a big deal.

I got up and went to school nothing out of the ordinary other than my family waking me up with a birthday song.

I was expecting to not hear the Wordsworth school today, but as I sat down and waited for Hayley I felt someone's presence behind me.

"Happy Birthday..."

I froze.

I didn't look back.

I just couldn't believe she'd talk to me after all these years. She dropped a bag next to me and walked away. I still didn't look at her.

After a few moments I looked at the bag. A small hot pink bag sat there with teal tissue paper, waiting to be opened.

'Why...' I thought. I hesitated but opened the bag. I found an envelope inside. I opened it slowly...carefully...for all I know this could be a prank.

My fingers then pulled out a card. 'Happy birthday' it read in calligraphy. I opened it.

'It's sad when you see someone you know become someone you knew.'

I stared at the words. Kept reading it. 'I don't understand..'

Another small note was written in the corner. 'I remember that you liked crystals and rocks so I decided to give you these. I found them in the river behind my house.'

I looked in the bag again. And spotted two small objects. A small mint crystal, and an iridescent smooth stone.

...then as soon as I touched them...I saw something...

'My magic didn't work...' She dropped to her knees. She had believed all this time that she had enough power to do something...anything. But in the end it wasn't enough.

Another girl came from behind. 'It's okay.....there was nothing you could have done...'

'Yes there was.' She sniffled between her words. Her eyes glazed with fear and doubt...for she had lost a friend.

'Look....I'm sorry to tell you this but, magic isn't real. There's nothing you could have done to save him.' She placed her small, thin hands on the girl's shoulder. But she pushed it away and stood up.

'I thought I had enough power...after all these years...' she looked to the ground and her friend walked in front of her now angered.

'LOOK! MAGIC ISN'T REAL!'

'And who told u that! Was it you NEW best friend?!' Now angered she turned away with fist and held back the anger and sadness.

Feelings are important with magic. She had to control them or else something worse could happen.

'...she didn't tell me. She just made me realize we're too old for this kind of stuff. We're growing up...I already did...just to tell you I never really believed in you. I thought it was just a game, but you took it seriously.'

A few moments passed with nothing but the sound of sirens. 'He's gone..He's all I had as a friend because you're gone all the time....AND YOU TELL ME THIS NOW?! YOU COULDN'T TELL ME THIS ANOTHER DAY?! YOU HAD TO TELL ME THIS TODAY!!! If you never believed...then why are you my friend still? Why did you ever choose me over popularity?...just go...come back tomorrow with your "best friend" so I can remove your powers.'

She left not saying anything. The silence was also filled with fear and emptiness

'Well I'm alone now...again...bad things only happen to me and those around me...might as well not make any connections from now on.'

'This will be my gift to the world. Not being close to anyone..'
