Winter's POV
"Kyle, if you don't come down here this instant you might not get anything for breakfast," I yelled up to my older brother who tried to sleep in again. I heard a thump and shuffling upstairs and my brother finally graced us with his presence.
By us, I mean the rest of the 'Rouges'. Yes, we all live in the same house, no it's not awkward at all because most of us are boys. And we are basically family already. We have known each other since before the vampires took over. The vampires took over about three years ago and we have been hiding for five. I know what you are thinking, 'What do you mean? The vampires only took over three years ago, why have you been hiding for five?' Well we were hiding from the police.
We were, before the takeover, one of the most lethal gangs in America. We were named 'Grimreapers' because of the scythes that we used when we robbed banks.
Anyways, back to my brother. (From another mother- Not really, had to say it)
"Finally! I thought I would have to actually have to wake you up myself." I told him. He quickly shook his head and sat down before eating. "HAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!! WHIPPED!!" One of the other members yelled, making all the others laugh. I turned my gaze to him and he shut up. "Good boy," I told him while cleaning the kitchen.
"Oh yeah, Winter we are going out hunting for a while," Kyle said while putting his plate in the sink. I just nodded while cleaning the dish. "Okay, just tell me when you get back I need to get more herbs for medicine," I said, not looking at him. "Deal," He said while kissing my cheek. I just shooed him out of the kitchen so I could finish the dishes.
After a while when I was sure they left I sighed and started sowing some clothing for the winter months. I really wished they would let me do some things that aren't things girls can do. I can hunt, I can get supplies, I can guard the boundary line. But my brother is the boss, and no one disagrees with the boss, not even family.
After my little, every morning rant, the girls and I started to finish up things that needed to be done in the house.
-swept the floor
-mopped the floor
-started lunch for the others
-made the bread for dinner
-washed all the clothes
-gathered the food from the garden
-fed the animals (other than the horses, the others have them)
-cleaned the house in general
-fixed the beds
A lot, I know.
Can you see why I don't want to do this? I've been doing this for two years, right after the takeover, my brother didn't want me outside our little boundary without supervision. Thought that a vampire would kidnap me or something. Stupid, I know, but what my brother says goes.
When my brother and the others, finally came back it was about one in the afternoon. "Lunch is on the table and the drinks are in the cooler," I told them while looking at the deer they killed. They ran into the house and left my brother and me to talk. "Good haul," I said looking at the four deer. He just nodded looking worried.
"What's wrong?" I asked while skinning the deer. "The vampires are closer than they were last time. And there are more. They might know we are in the forest." Kyle said before walking inside to get his lunch before walking out to me again. "You think we should move?" I asked not looking at him. "No, they are still far enough away that we don't need to worry about them. You still need the herbs right?" He asked when he finished eating. "Yeah, with winter coming up I will need to stock up on herbs for my medicines," I said wiping the knife on the ground.
"Well, let's go. We might as well get a good amount of herbs with how badly the others get hurt," Kyle said, handing his arm to help me up. I grabbed his hand and got up. "I sware, you get lighter and lighter every day," Kyle said while picking me up to get on the horse. "I do not! You just get stronger every day," I said while gripping the reigns tighter.
Kyle just laughs and gets on his own horse. "Well, come on. We need to get the herbs before the others try to fight, again," He said while leading me to the forest. I just nodded and looked around for the best herbs to use this winter.
